Congratulations! I became a grandmother this year and I started knitting baby clothes - I highly recommend knitting baby cardigans rather than sweaters as babies hate having things pulled over their heads!

At times it will feel like it is going slowly because you are so anxious to meet this new person, but when you look back on it, it will seem that the time flew by. My eldest son - 31 - is about to make me a grandmother in less than 2 weeks. That is absolutely surreal. I remember carrying him in my arms all day and night, and how he seemed to be permanently attached so he could nurse. By the way, your husband is so good. Carrying your basket, filming you, giving you sensible opinions.

Trust me, they don’t stay small for long, so even if your baby knit is a bit big, they will soon grow into it and if you keep your leftovers you could always make alterations later on 😊

i went the other way around - i started making baby sweaters for anyone i know who gets pregnant, and that taught me how to make sweaters for myself! you're doing a great job. you could consider a zipper (i've heard parents say fiddling with tiny buttons can be frustrating sometimes). if you don't like how the buttonholes look, the buttons will cover them! it's ok :)

My 2nd daughter was trying for a second child but she needed IVF and became pregnant on the final try Lydia Martha is 5 weeks now she’s gorgeous we are thrilled to bits! Congratulations to both of you on your baby! It's a blast to knit baby clothes. I knitted something like that in high school as a project. A total body suit. In blue. 3 years later, I used it on my first born. I was a mom at 21. I was scared that I wouldn't know what to do. My mother told me my instinct would take over. She was right. Don't be afraid. There are many moms out there willing to provide support. Join a moms to be group. It will fit eventually, even if it's big at first. They grow like crazy! Cheers!🎉🎉🎉

Oh, also, knitting for babes is so hard because they grow so fast. So acknowledge you are confort knitting for yourself 😂 Good for meditation and endorphin production which is super healthy for momma + baby! Newborn knits can be hard because they are usually messy so young and we are so tired in the first 3 months or so with a newborn. When given the choice of washing and blocking a newborn knit or sleep, most moms would probably choose sleep at that time. A knit in a size that fits about 9-12 months or up you'll definitely know the baby will wear a lot. You'll have gotten more sleep 🤞🏻 and you'll be used to all the new routines and systems. Congratulations!!!!! Baby's first knit is beautiful and will get lots of wear. My 'mom advice'....use your clothes dryer as a changing table; perfect height, warm, makes a vibration for soothing and you can pop in a towel to heat for baby to lay on while changing. Everything will come to you, there is no one answer for raising an individual. Relax and enjoy!

So exciting! Babies grow so fast! Sometimes you can spend more time knitting than they spend fitting what you made (you are a fast knitter so that may not be the case for you. 😉) Make some larger garments for later, because knitting time will be limited when your arms are full of baby. Pay attention to the seasons such as they are where you live. You don’t want to make something very thick and wooly that will only fit in the hottest part of summer! Soon you will feel the baby moving and that is a very exciting time. Savor it!

Itse sain oman tyttäreni samaan aikaan kun täytin 22 v ja nyt tyttäreni odottaa omaa esikoistaan eikä ihan ehdi täyttää 22 v, kun vauva syntyy (jos kaikki menee hyvin). Itse olen vielä nuori mummi ja jaksan hyvin olla heidän apuna. Olen ollut onneni kukkuloilla jo ihan mummiudesta :) Kaunis haalari! Congratulations! In America, we call the baby garment you're making is called an onesie. I think that's because its pants and top together. Onesie are so very useful. Just pop baby in and go. You certainly sound like a new mom to be! Very anxious and unsure. And positive and crazy happy. Babies grow so fast, it will fit some time! Get sleep now! My husband and i are currently on our ttc journey and it has been hard on us too. I am currently not pregnant yet, though i am still very hopefull. Congratulations. I wanted to mention to you a baby winter garment that I loved when my son was a baby. It is almost more like a bag with sleeves. So the feet are in one big bag. And it still opens down the front like a sweater. We had one that had holes in it for the car seat straps, that was more of a blanket bag with sleeves also. It worked well in the stroller also, as regular blankets seem to come untucked and fall off where as this stays on. I am not sure if this description is clear, but I hope so :)

Don’t worry about size. Knit the next one smaller. They make snaps on ribbon for the inseam/ crotch area for nappy/diaper changes. You can add plastic or metal snaps too. The snaps on ribbon are the best or even buttons.

Congratulations! I know that you have shared that you and Juki have wanted to be parents together for quite a while so I’m delighted for your happy news. Being anxious about such a big change in your life is completely normal. It is a big change! And it is both exhausting and completely wonderful at the same time. My “babies” are teenagers now so it’s a long time since I looked at baby clothes. You are right about newborns being such different sizes. For my first I anticipated a bigger baby and she was only 2.8kg. None of the clothes I had bought were small enough! So I’d say that the overall you knitted could fit 4-12 months depending on their size! Don’t forget that you will be changing nappies/diapers frequently so easy access to that area without completely undressing your baby is important, especially in the cold months. So I’d suggest buttons right down to the crotch area and even down one or both legs. I’m not sure what baby fashion is like in Finland with such cold weather so it would be good to ask your friends about how they dress their babies for easy diaper changes. Confronted again!

Congratulations ! Get rest as much as you can , this come from mom of three children , because you gonna need all the energy you have once the baby come . It is a big life change but also very sweet . You guys going to be a wonderful parents 😍 For baby equipment make sure to borrow from friends and family as much as you can , crib , baby wheels , even newborn clothes , because baby grow that stuff so quick . Yes baby things, so exciting. A whole new world. Congratulations, Maybe you could look at Ravelry and get a few free patterns just for the sizing and measurements and use them as a guide to create your own. You will be amazed at what will be worn a lot and what won't and what works and what doesn't, it's all learning, all mothers have done it before. Don't stress about it.

Your baby overall is adorable! It's always better for baby garments to be bigger than smaller as they grow so fast and layering for different temperatures is important. I'm sure you'll get a chance to put it on your baby and it'll be so special for them to wear. Your feelings and doubts are normal for a new mother, maybe you can talk to some other new/experienced mothers to share your experiences. Congratulations!

Congratulations! :) pregnancy is very special time:) I bought bodies from size 56 an size 62 and managed to use them as my measurements for knitting (a little bit looser). Eventually, now we have so many patterns for baby's..oh, now I will wait more 10-15 years for my grandkids:D to knit for them :)

Congrats!! I would totally make a baby blanket. They use them forever, my grandma has knit each of my babies a blanket and my oldest is 9 and still has his on his bed ❤ Also it IS overwhelming. That’s completely normal, you will grow in capacity as your baby grows!

Your are looking into the unknown which is always scary. All women are faced with the same questions that you are thinking about now. Being a parent will always be a mystery in that you will always have questions when new situations come up. None of us know what we are doing. But when you hold your baby in your arms for the first time and look into their eyes, the love you feel is all you will need. You will want your baby to be safe and happy and healthy and that's all that will matter. So try to relax and enjoy every moment of your pregnancy. Congratulations to you both, I was 39 when I had my first child and 40 when my second came along. Believe me you are never ready for it. It will all be fine and you will be a natural. All I would say is enjoy your rest now and when the baby comes sleep whenever you get the chance . 💕❤️🧶🧶happy baby knitting xx
