This is a neat solar cooker where the cooking pot stays flat on the ground and the flexible reflectors (or panels) are adjusted around it. It is highly portable, lightweight and quick and easy to set up and take down. It's made of cardboard, poster board, aluminum foil and a shoelace.
To see how to make this Copenhagen solar cooker, watch "How to Make a Copenhagen Solar Cooker":

A few years ago I thought it couldn't possibly be practical but after making 5 different solar cookers and cooking countless things, I can't imagine how I thought that before. I now cook meals this way whenever I'm not too busy and there's sunlight. Strange how completely different you can come to think about something. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Out of all the cookers you made, which one did you find the best? I just made one like this, only bigger and with mirror like panels. This seems to be almost equivalent to Haines 2 performance wise.

This Copenhagen solar cooker was the best for most cooking. But if I want serious hot temperatures for frying something then my Fresnel lens solar cooker was better kzbin.info/www/bejne/noinnHakpbGFhqM . Having said that, I've never tried a parabolic solar cooker, which would probably fry just as well.

If people all over the sunny world could use the sun to cook at least sometimes, so much fuel could be saved. Thank you for sharing.

I like this idea very much. Cheap and easy to make. Beats the heck out of having to pay $300.00 for a commercially manufactured solar cooker! Thanks for your presentation.

Yes, indeed. The manufactured stoves are a scam. I mean, they work just fine, but the prices. Utterly ridiculous.

It's much faster to just roast eggs right in the cardboard crate they come in. No boiling, 40 minutes, same as hard boiled.

I bought it at Walmart a few years ago. It's from a double boiler set. I cut the handle off of it. I think it was this one here www.walmart.ca/en/ip/granite-ware-15-quart-double-boiler-black/6000188184500

i hadn't seen this video. but I've seen plenty of others. and have been toying with my own designs. having been in the heat transfer industry, I have seen a fault/stupid inefficiency in a couple of designs which I have made sure didn't happen in mine. here's me making some instant coffee with CLOUD COVER all around. instant coffee on a cloudy day with a bunch of mylar and newspaper

When the egg goes green around the yoke it's WAAAAAAAAy over cooked. even for a hard boiled egg you killed it.. but the solar cooker is on point! BTW> everyone of these vids I see about cooking eggs. the eggs themselves all end up resembling a 'sacrificial burnt offering' rather than cooking!. But sure the cooker/oven works fine..

Good use for crockpot liner. What if you placed it in a larger pot maybe two inches wider all round, filled with water? Wouldn’t that water help inner liner to reach higher temps quicker? Or what if you use mirrors if you dont have access to that fresnel lens?
@RimstarOrg
@RimstarOrg Ай бұрын
Putting it in a larger pot with water in between would make it take longer to heat up since the water would have to heat up. However, once heated up, it would keep the heat for longer. And using mirrots to reflect more light to the pot would certainly help.

Actually I suppose I could have replied I could use the cat to polish the reflectors, a Colin Mochrie joke from Who's Line is it Anyway. :) I'm really a cat lover though. I agree re the coolness and cleverness of the cooker. I wish I'd thought it up.

Re-viewed this. Could have made one as you did, also. Decided to reinforce Claus' ingenuity. Just bought one on his ebay auction site. Supporting the innovator, if possible, generates capitalism. Beautiful guardian angel you have, there, btw. Cheers.

pnwoods Good decision. Her reflectors are much better than my homemade aluminum foil ones. I far prefer the ones I got from her, and don't see why I'd use any of the other solar cookers I have.

I think I've heard of it being done and I've thought about trying it myself. As long as you have direct sunlight, it should work. Let us know how it goes if you do try it!

HI i have a question i have seen many types of sloar cooker and i think the key point is how to save the heat well many people use oven bag or hotpot but i see one guy do a test he use 1. A Graniteware enamel pot with a metal lid. 2. A Graniteware enamel pot with a clear glass lid. 3. A Graniteware enamel pot with a metal lid and enclosed in an oven bag. 4. A ‘HotPot’, which consisted of a Graniteware enamel pot with a clear glass he find 4 is the best surprisingly 2 is the second and it befeat 3 the 4 and 2 almost have the same temperture but i ask some people about it , they say they cant get the same effect just with a glass lid ,they think without a glass bowl or oven bag, the pot can save the heat it get well this is the data solarcooking.org/research/greenhouse%20enclosure%20comparison_february_2008.pdf can u tell me how do you think about this test?is it ture?

+王子齊 His test procedures look fine, and his analysis looks fine too. He found some surprises, as you point out, and they surprise me the same. I haven't done the same tests so without my own data so I can't dispute it.

No way, dude. To kill cats you need the focused power of a Fresnel lens. It's absolutely awesome, the most fun you'll ever have, and it helps the community and the planet.

@@Kube_Dog Unbelievable. Did you know the hunters in Australia are now using the Fresnel lens to kill feral cats and wild dogs in the Australian bush instead of rifles? The sun is sooo bloody hot and powerful in the outback that a focused ray, even for a few seconds, is like a high energy pulse weapon. It's just like the weapon they used in the Californian so-called bush fires.....it blows a hole right through the cats and sears the wound in one shot..... they even use these lens's to cut the 'moggies' in half!! Its cheaper, humane and more accurate..... amazing! (Just kidding!).
