Thanks a ton for this, and all of your videos, John. I’m a Mopar racer that has struggled to understand the voodoo that is the 727 automatic transmission. But thanks to you, I’m starting to at least understand the important items that need upgrades, and why.

Thanks John! , Just running into a Belleville spring issue at the moment that I would have never known otherwise without your tech. We had just added more pressure with the valve body,ran my first two runs at the track with my long waited first 10 second runs 10.66 in my street HYD cam Small block. Two days later lost reverse. Anyways after pulling trans out and seeing the Bellville spring broken and piston jammed up plus both front pump rings broken n one jammed with broken piece under it. I Wouldn't have known why the spring broke. After inspection see that I have a 77 piston but early spring. Trans was originally built by someone else. Thanks for the info. Have a long waited end of year race against a high compression solid roller,CNC ported brodix head BBC 68 firebird(that runs about the same as mine) high 10,70's to hopefully take care of soon as it's back in 😅 Wish me luck Mopar gods.

I tore down a 96-97 47RE and found the thicker Belelville spring and the taller piston. Subbed the whole set-up into my 1971 727......No endplay.

Thanks for the videos John. I've been a machinist for 29 years so you know where my mind is going! If I want a billet spring and have the large piston or want a new billet piston can I throw these bad boys in my lathe to get the clearance I need, have you ever done this? Thanks

Glad i saw this.. i'm doing my trans right now and that endplay was worrying me a bit.. My trans is a '62 that had zero endplay when i took it apart and i am swapping to a 24spline input shaft which felt sloppy.. gonna take it apart and check this and make sure i didn't switch pistons by accident. P.S. Bought a billet reverse/low piston from another company, that was a mistake.. :( The directions make no sense at all.. and i have no faith in the part now.. lesson learned.

Great tech as always. Quick clarification question? What forward drum clutch clearance do you recommend? At 25:50, I thought I heard 0.020-0.030", then at 26:25 you mentioned 0.030"-0.040". Thanks!

my 1994 47RH behind my cummins had the beefy belleville from factory👍 I have heard the 1994-1995 47rh had the good springs.

Can you use a 47/48 front/rear drum in a 46 transmission? Wouldn't that be heavier duty?

What if the early spring and the 374 piston give an acceptable clearance? Is it ok to use that way? I have one on the bench now that had .035” with the 212 piston but with the 374 it seems to be perfect. Thanks for the tech!
@coperacingtrans2 жыл бұрын
if your clearance acceptable and your running 150 psi your good, if your over 180 psi, I would install the new spring
