Copics: Where to start

In my opinion you should start with a blending set, like a small set with two yellow, red, and blue. That’s how I started. You can see how you like blending with similar colors, and if you somehow don’t like it, at least it wasn’t 200 bucks. When I first got my 6 Copic set, I didn’t really use it until a month later. I wasn’t necessarily focused on art at the time, mostly on school or practicing cello. But I did though practice blending a bit. Then, I was at Michaels and I for some reason got two more blue Copics. Later in the week I was watching a KZbinr named Vexx, and I got inspired a little. I made a doodle in my new mixed media sketchbook, Vexx style, and I really enjoyed using the Copics! Since then, I’ve gotten a bit more, but I only own 37 colors still lol. Dang these markers are expensive XD

Hayden Kang I think 37 colours are plenty enough if you use them wisely! I’m going for three colours from each colour group except for the flourescents (close in numbers so I can shade with them), 3 cool grays, 3 warm grays and 3 neutral grays. It all adds up to around 52 markers including the colourless blender.

My first set was a 24 ciao set. Now I'm getting the copic sketch 72 set and I'm really excited. I bought some copic sketches individually and I know how to already blend and refill them so I'm super hyped.

Hmmmmm... Sketch or Original? The original ones are pretty cheap on amazon (compared to other markers) and don't have a brush nib. The Sketch ones do have a brush nib and are expensive. However, I don't have any Sketch ones. I only have Caio and Original copics. Sorry for any spelling errors, I'm exited. I'm getting a piano today. :3

I must say that I love working with Copics now, much better than the cheap TwinMarkers. I now have to learn to draw different things to use them more. Can't wait.

They do, this is true :3 I find they are good to fit more into a pencil case. I don't like taking the sketches to shows (too scared to loose them hehehe)

I woUlf have started with 36 set except I wanted to chose witch colours so I got packs of 3 reddish maroon, yellow and purple and then I got 12 pack of grey and a 6 pack of blue and a 6 pack skin colour and a colorless blender but the 3 packs are really handy and there all in the same colour group dark medium and light. (I got the 3 packs on Amazon and the 34 markers cost me 280$ and something sence)

At the end you described what was happening inaccurately. You put the light beige on the paper and then the dark beige and then rubbed the light beige brush across the paper 3 times which meant that the next time you used it, it would be darker than it was when you first used it. So then you used it on the other paper and it was darker because it touched the darker shade already, so it blended easier with the darker shade because the colors were closer to begin with due to getting the dark ink on the light marker. So you concluded that it was the better paper that made the markers blend better, but really the second time only blended better because the lighter shade had already been tainted by the darker marker.

Currently I’m a little to broke to get copics but I do have as a beginner set I have a cheap ohuhu set and they are really good for there price. $56 au. Recommend them if you are a beginner or broke

Can you blend copic ciao with sketch? Do they give a diference on illustration? If yes, do you have an example coloring the same drawing with differents types of copic?

Why people call other marker that aren't from the copic trend "Copic"(Sometimes)? Is it just like when we say cleanex instead of tissue?

Haha, probably. Most alcohol based pens are very similar, a few like Copic have got the formula right early on - I think thats why they are ahead of the game - and because of this (in some cases) some people refer to all pens as Copics.

That irritates me too. There is only one brand of Copic. The same for tissues and many other things. I use Puffs plus tissues so never refer to them as Kleenex. The same argument as all soft drinks are called Coke. Not at all I never drink Coke , don’t want one. I order Dr Pepper which is what I want.

MIn P it’s entirely up to your preference. Most alcohol based pens blend well. I would advise with any brand trying them first if possible 🙂

Is the 358 color set only of the sketch copic markers or how many in total any copic marker colors there is? Is the sketch markers, original markers, etc just the style of the marker or do people get those types cause of the way they draw.

Johnny Orlando Hi 👋🏻 When I made this video there was the Copic Wide, Copic Sketch, Copic Ciao and original style Copic. Both the sketch and ciao have a brush nib and a chizzel The original has the bullet and a chizzel. It was announced not long ago that there is now the option to get Copic sketches with brush bibs on one side and bullet nibs on the other (from some retailers) The Copic colours used are the same makeups in all copics, for an example a Y13 would be the same in any of the pen variants. The only thing really to consider is how many colours you would need - the widest range is still the Copic Sketches. I hope this helps :)

Zephyr Games it's a matter of keeping a nose out for better deals, typically the 12 sets of Copic are about the £50.00 mark, the 72 sets about the £300.00 mark. Bigger packs bring down the price of the individual markers making them better than buying odd ones here and there. I have heard some black Friday deals they can drop, a lady I know picked up a 72 pack under £100.00 - is amazing!

Illustrate Tor cool I found a website called "cult pens" that sells 72 A and B sets for £280 and was thinking about getting them but I am only 13 and it's hard to get the money for them I have saved up enough money to buy one set but don't know if I should buy it. This video was really helpful and it's cool to find an artist from the uk too you've got a well earned subscribe

Zephyr Games between set A and B it comes down to colour preference, A is lighter while B is darker but same (ish) tones. I have never seen them that price in the UK - check out their shipping prices but they seem decent :) seeing as your so young you would get more for your money buying the 72 sets of ciaos. they are smaller and don't have cap numbering but you could get double the colour collection. Or with the spare cash invest in some marker friendly card or paper. you can always replace as you get older and get a job. If this is your first Copic purchase choose a smaller set in Ciao to get used to them :) it's my best advice. If you already have tried them, it's up to you which kind you go for. Even now my collection is no way near completion and I am a mid 20 year old with a job (part time) but still a wage :) Thank you for the Sub ^_^ let me know if there are any challenge videos you would like to see in the future :)

Illustrate Tor thanks for the advice it's very helpful, this is my first copic purchase but I've been watching videos on them for years and I feel I would rather go for the sketch first so that I don't have to replace them when I'm older^_^ also could I make a request for a pice of art, I had an idea of a magical Forrest with bright vibrantly coloured plants just thought that would be cool idk

xD no of course not - I meant more from a position like I am in where I can't buy lots in one go (low income and other things take priority) :) I will get there one day, but I am happy where I am right now anyway :) If you have the whole set, it must be glorious :') and if you do, doing a three marker challenge must be amazing ^_^
