Oh, Leanne, was that ever an excellent video. I've had some Copic markers but just splurged, doubling my collection to about 75. But they weren't working right, so after watching 4/5 of this series, I feel more confident about practicing and experimenting. What a joy to find this series! You are an excellent instructor who doesn't waste our time with unrelated comments. Really nice job! Thanks so much!!

Those that are new to using Copic markers should watch the Kit and Clowder free videos on KZbin, plus they also offer classes on using Copics and colored pencils, I highly recommend them.

Best advise ever! You can and it’s easier to add color to light colored markers than it is to change darker colored markers. I see it as lighter colored markers are the more “valuable” markers to get refilled. This is a great revaluation for me and eye opening in so many ways. I see so many dark colors like my 04 to 09 color markers families. Some are too dark to blend with their 01-0000 family. I have markers that look like the exact same color. Even when I put the color on paper there is a small variation but not enough to buy a refill for each. What was I thinking when I started my collection? (Side note 📝 I see a good handful of markers with clearance stickers on them.🙄) I understand the color numbers of Copic markers. It’s just, as I look at my markers that need refills and some tips, I can’t help but ask myself, should I order the dark colored refills? And if I don’t, then what do I do with these markers? Or should I order refills for those dark colors that are the same color? Thanks for the video series. I’m learning a lot.

Thanks so much for the insight and you’re right, those light colours are so valuable. I always find they’re the ones I need to refill the most. As for the darker colours I think you’ll eventually notice some that you gravitate towards and those will likely become the ones you’ll want to keep refills for. I have a few that are quite similar, but I usually use one more than the other and that’s the one I refill. I know it’s tempting to try and collect every colour though. ☺️ Happy colouring! 🖍🎨

Thank you so much for the kind comment! 😊💕 I don’t have a colouring book, but I do some art under LeanneLand Art on Instagram. Mostly watercolour at the moment. I do like using my Copics though for colouring stamps for homemade card projects, and I’ve done a bit of art with them as well. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video - happy colouring! 😊

Great videos. How do you determine which is a medium tone? Just by looking at it or by the #’s associated with that color family...say 000-10 is light, 11-20 medium, 21-30 dark?
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I primarily determine a medium tone just by looking at it and by the colours I choose around it. And I typically try to choose this tone first, which would be the main colour I want the object to be. From there I like to choose something a bit lighter and a bit darker to work as the highlight and shadow. You can use the numbering system as well to help pair shades of colour together, but I mostly work just by looking at the colours I see. If you wanted to use the number system then the last digit in the number would be the brightness colour, where a 7 is intended to be darker than a 5 but brighter than a 9. I also find having a colour swatch chart helps a lot with this as well. Hopefully this helps to answer your question!

How do your store your markers? laying down or standing up?

I have my markers stored laying down, in a mini storage shelf on my desk with dividers in between them for each of the colour groups.

I’m still a little confused as to which ones to start with. 😫 I have heard people say it depends on what you will be coloring.
