Jewelry requires very little material. This is a good way to turn a few pennies worth of copper into an item of value. I am not a jeweler, but these simple designs can be done by anyone with just a few tools and some copper scraps.

great video I love making jewelry from scrap pieces. Suggestion on the earwires use a jumpring between the earwire and the earring piece. it will hang nicer plus you won't have to fight to open the earwire.

Gauge: About 22 gauge. I used 22 gauge because I had a bunch of scrap. From what I have learned from a woman who is a jeweler is that 20 oz, or 22 gauge can be a bit heavy for earrings. 16 oz. or about 25 gauge is better. You might try roofing shops. They often do gutters, eaves, flashing etc. Even if you bought a 12" x 12" inch piece online, you could get a lot earring out of that. Of course there is always metal recyclers. Glad you like the videos.

You are a very good instructor. Thank you. I followed your recommendation to get a piece of copper from Amazon and started playing today. I read the comments and put two folds in the long triangle so it looks kind of like a stacked pyramid. Then I threaded a thin piece of wire through the bottom fold to attach a square piece of turquoise that dangles half off the earring. It looks great. I wish I could send you a picture. I don't consider myself creative but a creative side of me is surfacing. I am watching more of your videos!!! Thank you again! Robin

Is th flame coloring permanent, or will it fade----can you achieve this look with a butane torche as well?
@897473
@897473 10 жыл бұрын
Lynn, the color is permanent if you coat with a clear finish. Copper will tarnish (change color) if it is not protected from the atmosphere. I have no experience with fame coloring with a butane torch, but I think it will probably work with a little practice.

Sir, what is the tool you used, the little ruled tool with the liquid leveler in it to get the correct angle for the cuts? I didn't catch the name of it. Slight hearing problem, I'm afraid! Many thanks! These are gorgeous.

It's called a Combination Square. Do a search for a Combination Square and you will find different sizes and different prices. Unless you are doing precision work you do not need an expensive combination square. The one I am using in the video cost about $8.00.
