Very interesting. This week I'm visiting Parys Mountain on the isle of Angelsey in north west Wales, UK. I'll have a hunt to see if I can find any of these minerals. Back in 1780 this was apparently the world's biggest copper ore mine. The copper was used to sheath the ships of the Royal Navy to prevent marine damage to the hull.

i went out this morning and found some malachite and azurite in some kind of white calcite-carbonatite? vein. The vein was sandwiched in a serpentine- "green"stone sheer. It might have some cuprite crystals as well. no visible gold, but it was an exciting thing to find a nice shear zone with the mineralization. you are a very good teacher, thank you for the tutelage.

I am really enjoying the copper series. I have three adjacent claims at the old Scott mine in Maricopa County, Arizona. I have a bit of chrysocolla, Cuprite, Silver, manganese and amethyst on the claims. Unfortunately, there isn't much gold. Last Christmas I surveyed and staked a separate claim for the better half that has lots of copper deposits. If I'm back in Arizona in the Spring, you are welcome to visit and collect a few specimens. Now, all I have to do is get your book and have even more fun and adventure. Thanks for the great video showing the awesome specimens.

Hi Chris.. Thank you for sharing a huge variety of copper ores. Some specimens I've never recognized before. I have slight traces of Malachite mixed in quartz on my placer gold deposit. It's extremely faint, however, when it's more visible, the higher gold content occurs. So, I'm always on the lookout for copper. Thanks again. On to the next part of this series !

Copper refining involves a number of elements and they aren't cheap. Elements commonly associated with copper include iron, nickel cobalt, silver, gold, lead and others. Copper is used largely for electrical wires because of it's excellent electrical conductivity. However the copper must be very pure to conduct well. After copper is extensively refined it is then electrolytically refined. The copper is cast into huge electrodes and these are put into a solution of copper sulfate. The current is turned on. The copper is converted in ions and these cross the solution and deposit ad very pure copper on the cathode. Iron, cobalt and nickel are converted to ions but do not deposit on cathode. They stay in solution. Gold and silver do not ionize. They fall off the anode as a sludge that is processed for silver and gold. The necessity of electro refining gives us more valuable products.

You can simply just leech copper out of the rock with acid, namely sulphuric, and then that solution can either be immediately put through electrolysis, or the copper can be reduced out of solution with an electron replacement using a metal such as iron, zinc or silver. Needs almost zero equipment, and almost zero effort.

I would like to make make pure copper because of values, when I sell as ore values are very low, Can you give me an idea how much gonna cost put up small copper purification plant and required of electricity. Man the tetrahedrite ore is wondrous! I'm wanting to observe some silver mine waste piles I know of., A mostly private area known as silver plume, in hopes that perhaps the silver miners simply discarded some copper ores into the silver spoils piles! @@ChrisRalph actually i am doing exactly that while i am stuck in newyork. I have found out where we have grandiderite and serendibite . occasially true gem quality material is found for both mineral types making it only one of two places in the world to produce that level of quality. Madigascar being the other as far as i remember.they have two spots , one was super recent. They are in the same predominantly garnet mine and all form in the same pockets. Its just normally just garnet. I also have a speciman of common unakite with a semi-translucent feldspar crystal. I never have seen that before. I have put many( literally hundreds of) feldspars on bright lights and this is the only one that carries light at all! Im psyched to have it and feel it deserves a display or holder of some sort. Its super nice for what it is. It even has a bit of little black taurmaline druzy around its cap. There are little blades of some crystaline idk what. Its not mica or garnet and is a series of almost beer bottle brown, totally transparent (at 20x magnification) inclusionless hexagonal plates of about 1.25mm.

It also depends on how much you have - not just the grade. If you have 200 million tons of 2.9% copper ore, you have a great mine. If you 200 tons of ore at 2.9% copper you have nothing worth pursuing.

I don't understand English. Now I use google translate. What I say may be difficult for you to understand. I apologize to you for that. Copper sulfide ore is smelted. Add copper ore and ferrosilicon/limestone to the crucible. The temperature is around 1200. Melting copper is inconvenient. The molten copper does not aggregate. A mixture of slag and copper. Why? Do you need to add more borax/soda ash? Or do you need something?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Жыл бұрын
Yes more borax / soda ash to make the mix more fluid. If the mix is chunky and thick, the copper will not be able to sink down through it and aggregate at the bottom of the crucible.

No worries, mate. Just send me a bank draft for USD $10,000 - that's my price. Seriously, many of the illustrations are drawings and other illustrations that never were in color - so in a color version they will still be B&W. Had my book been originally printed in color, it would have been about USD $150 per copy. I long ago decided that more people would be willing to pay USD $30 for a black and white version. Since the book is highly rated, I doubt you will be disappointed with it.

Hey Chris. Thank you for the valuable information on prospecting cooper and everything else you share with us. I found an old mine nearby that was primarily a copper deposit with gold, silver, lead and zinc as tertiary. I have collected some nice samples with lots of color. There is also a zone running through the vein that is very red and iron rich. Lots of sulfides and small pyrite cubes. In a few samples I looked at under the glass where the malachite meets the iron there are very fine sharp fibers splintering between the two. And fuzzy iron colored crystals. Again this is under the jewelers loupe. I’m wondering if this could be possible an asbestos fiber? I have been wearing Ppe and am being very cautious with my sampling. Wondering if you could provide some insight to it.

Come be saved eternally and spend time with Him to know Him. Be saved, free, forgiven, healed, delivered, baptized, whole and let Him show you how He is everything you need. 🕊️💕Live righteous and Holy because He said to and paid for our way to live like Him. Ask anything in His name and the Father will do it amen hallelujah praise God thank you Jesus . 🙏 I lift up everyone's prayers, wants and needs to You Jesus, please pour out blessings. May Your favor, grace and mercy be upon the world. In Jesus name come help us all. You know our needs and everything else about each of us. In Jesus name amen thank you Jesus praise God 🙏 Jesus, Help people to be rooted and grounded in Your love and to obey Your truth. That they are living in the truth being taught by You. That they know Your voice and word. Knowing truth from errors, discernment. 💕 We are ambassadors of Christ. We represent God, when we are seen Jesus should be seen, His ways not ours. We should be living for and showing God, living for His glory. We are to be an example of Jesus for the world to see Him and want to know Him and know Him more. 🙏 🔥 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, if My people humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear them from heaven and heal their land. 🙏 💖 People need to turn from their wicked ways, Jesus paid for it. That's God stating it in that verse and there are more verses. People need to repent, to be cleansed by His blood and live Holy because He's Holy and righteous because He's righteous. Our God said to stop sinning in many many scriptures and He paid for everyone to be cleansed of sin (Isaiah 53), and to live how He said. He dwells in the Holy temple (your body) and said not to defile the temple. He said to defile the temple is death. He's always serious about everything He said to do. He's just as serious about what He said not to do. We live in obedience to His law, every word if it! He dwells within us all to be with and lead us in His ways. 💕🙏 Deuteronomy 28 there are blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The whole chapter, and verse 46 is one example of generational curses. These go into the following generations, the 3 and 4th. Our children pay the price for our sin. Stop sinning you are sending consequences to yourself and to your loved ones, children. By God's law you are. If you don't believe me ask Him, in Jesus name may you see and know the truth in it's fullness. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. He's worthy of everything He said and paid for, so I implore you to do as God said. Jesus said If you love me you will obey my commands. Love Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Praise God hallelujah Jesus. In Jesus name. 🕊️ 🙏 💖🔥
