I worked with an elderly Cambodian woman we all called Grandma. She reminded me of my own Grandma who came here in 1921 from Ukraine. We worked in an industrial park that had planted crab apple trees as landscaping all over. "We" see them as pretty, she sees them as a foraged food source and asked me to go with her to pick some so she wouldn't get in trouble (I did). We actually attracted park security who thought it was "strange" to be picking useless crab apples but left us alone after I explained the situation. All this woman saw was a source of food and I feel that the police went too far in tasing her. This is first world stupidity where everyone thinks the only place food comes from is the grocery store.

Your conclusion assumes any of these cops have reasonable thinking skills. They clearly lack intelligence. Taser training, and likely their own policies, warns about use of taser on elderly people, and she clearly very much fits this description. I live in Canada, my friend immigrated to Canada in the early 90's from Ukraine/USSR his grandmother spoke very little English but was a very sweet old lady. In 2017, they were integrating the automatic checkouts, and she didn't understand how to use them correctly. They reported to the police that she was a shoplifter and the police arrived shortly after she left the store. During the altercation, she was taken to the ground and broke her hip. There were no body cameras at that time, and it was her word against the officers. The charges were dropped. After filling out a complaint, the police did an internal investigation and deemed the officer used appropriate force. She died a couple of years ago and never fully recovered from the hip injury. 😢

These officers are complete idiots. They keep trying to talk to her when obviously she doesn’t understand their English. And to think she’s any kind of a threat that needs to be in handcuffs and put it in the back of a police car shows complete lack of reasonable awareness of the situation. They couldn’t hold a job at McDonald’s. For God sakes why are we giving these people guns and paying them To enforce laws. Completely useless their families must be so embarrassed. If anyone puts them back out on the street there’s something wrong with you as well.

i live out in the boonies. i don't go any farther than the mailbox without at least one pocket knife. it's not a weapon, it's an everyday tool, simple as that. i genuinely feel bad when my blades get blood on them (which has, more than once, happened when i would lend someone my knife. i hand it to them, closed. they return it, open, and holding up their other hand to show me the cut. 'it's sharp. and i couldn't figure out how to close it.' i can only put my face in my palm at thst point.)

But well.. he decided to call, but didn't lied or exaggerated in his report. Its the Dispatcher's job to ask the questions, and include the level of emergency in the report for the call of service.

1st video: Okay… so the officers were aware of where the elderly woman lived. What stopped them from calmly taking the knife, walking her home, and sitting with her until her family could be reached? “Protect and Serve” right? 2nd video: Obviously, they assumed Mr. Gray was homeless and soliciting.. but still violated his rights after being told that he only wanted to share a message. let's be fair, though. you can go to any town, in any country in the world, and identify police officers on sight. and people yelling in aggressive tones is fairly clear in any language, if one takes the situation into account. there is also the demonstration of throwing his own knife down to consider. even with dementia, one would have a hard time not noticing them. of course, the cops could only have seen the knife, and went into... defense mode, where everyone is seen as a possible aggressor. and the best defense is one you don't have to get close to the blade to use. that edge has no care for what it touches, it simply parts the molecules as best it can.
