Yes theres a new team. A few weeks ago another 2 or 3 joined the discord and took ownership back, and they post several times a week there. Also the introduction animation the the event is an exact ( worse ) copy of the ones pixel gun uses

(Personal Opinion) Update Summary: The event is absolute trash. The melee is decent I guess, but its just another melee, and the special is absolutely dogwater. That thing can barely be used in mid range. They really should stay with the “get event currencies from quests, open chests, get weapons and armor” type, not this stupid gold trial thing. Also the event intro really tried to pull a PG3D intro. The home land update is super time taking in the bad way. Why would anyone spend so much time fishing just for another melee or a dumb avatar frame (most ppl will probably do it for the brave fight card). The only thing I like about this update is the Mutation and Music Revolver buff, Oblivion Fists being fixed, and the HUGE Lollipop Sniper nerf.
