I have to wonder, if that policy came about due to this incident. althou, given the skills needed (to drive a tank), odds are the driver was aware of the possibility and went in carrying extra fuel.

@@someperson7 I mean... the guys who were in car chases long ago enough to be back out on the streets now... You're potentially talking guys in their 50's to 70's who were doing shit before the widespread use of the internet and all that. Electronics in cars weren't a big thing. Take a license plate off back then and manage to get away and ditch the car? What're the cops going to do? send letters out on all the outgoing mail horse and buggies to alert nearby towns? These days? There's cameras pretty much fucking everywhere, even if they're just in some random passerby's hands, and whatever you do in public that's not kosher is probably going to be recorded with enough resolution to match your face to a driver's license. But I guess just retards who ran from the police for a traffic stop because they had meth in their car probably aren't getting locked up for too long so yeah, you could ask them what happened in recent history.

I've watched the whole video of the cop doing the head on collision a while ago. The camera shows him getting out, helping his partner securing the suspect- and then collapsing to his knees as reinforcements arrive. He was fine after a quick visit to the hospital. The camera keeps running and you see all of his collegues and superiors arriving, congratulating him, joking around with him, helping him take his gear off and escorting him into the ambulance when it arrives. They had been chasing the reckless driver for two hours and he had avoided block ins and traps and everything multiple times. I don't remember where it was but apparently the country is alot of wilderness and police forces are spread thin. It was a last resort method as the driver KEPT getting on the highway and driving it down the wrong direction. This was actually the second time the officer tried to stop him by directly blocking his way, and the previous time the dude had skipped around him. Absolute legend, that police officer. And yes, he got honored and a medal 😄

It'd be cool for you to get some race drivers and then comment on crashes at various tracks on what they did wrong, if the car is saveable and if so, how much it would cost.

Where I live they tried the grappler on a diesel truck and it didn’t end well for the cop in this case the sheer amount of torque ripped not only the grappler off the vehicle but also the ram and damaged the frame the diesel truck on the other hands did continue for about 15 more minutes also the cop car was deemed a total lose due to the frame damage but I feel that with a built diesel it might be able to get away

There’s been studies on this about how police pursuits do more harm than good. For all the reasons the officers say here: “How often do the criminals take themselves out?” Officer: “More often than not.” As we’re watching a power line fall down, potentially hurting innocent people. How much property damage was done by the pursuing officer and offender over what? A speeding ticket? “Sorry you’re stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of your life son, but rest assured, we caught the bastard who didn’t stop at the construction zone.”

I believe in most states, and for highway patrol in general, it is now illegal to do these chases, but cops will occasionally chase speeders for fun with their cameras off just for the thrill of it and in those cases just give the drivers a warning and say they did it because they'd "Never chased a __(insert car model here)__ before."

@@moogle68 You're making it up as far as things being illegal and what highway patrol does in most of the US. You're also making up them chasing for the thrill, with cameras off. The vehicle cameras don't turn off, they aren't like body worn cameras. They'd have to remove the battery from the car, and then it wouldn't start. As far as what you claim to have seen, source? I'm willing to bet you can't show me one. How could you, if they turned the cameras off, like you seem to think they can?

@@theKashConnoisseur Look, there are numerous accounts of this happening, I'm not going to argue about it. If you don't want to believe that cops get bored at night and chase fast cars for fun _occasionally_ then that's your right, but it happens. As far as the chase thing goes, I don't know if it has been changed, but I know that at least at some point in the last decade, it was a rule to not chase vehicles for minor traffic offenses, because why endanger everyone on the road just to give someone what was initially a minor ticket. They could literally just use their cameras to get someone's license plate and then surprise them at their address later on with the ticket and not endanger anyone. I'm sure they can still chase in certain scenarios, like if they see a vehicle connected with an active shooter, or bank robber, or some other violent felony, but for minor traffic offenses, it doesn't make sense to endanger innocent lives just on the off chance that the fleeing suspect has committed other crimes. There are way too many incidents from decades ago of big chases causing lots of damage and injuries all for a perp that had committed relatively low level offenses, and that before the chase posed no danger to anyone.
