Fellow CFII here. I’ve always felt that CRAFT is fine as an aid to know the order the clearance is going to be given, but as a tool for actually copying the clearance it’s not particularly useful after a little experience. Expanding on your theme of thinking ahead, you don’t need to write the clearance limit (destination) unless ATC changes it for some reason I can’t think of. And, all frequencies start with a 1 so you can leave that out as well. Arrows for right and left turns as well as climbs and descents are also time savers.

A video on how to file an IFR departure would be great.

Is that the same controller that dealt with N114FA a couple years ago?

Please consider purchasing an old police, fire scanner that has the air band in order to monitor your local air traffic control frequencies, if you use Live ATC the down fall is the scanner that is connected might be in scanner mode and you will miss transmissions. Consider a realistic scanner there were the Rolls Royce of scanners back in the day and very inexpensive.

I am working on my IFR currently and I'm having trouble staying focused during turbulent or task saturated scenarios. I was wondering if you had some pointers on how to not get flustered or overwhelmed.

Those are (to me) relatively easy departure clearances. It's the APPROACH clearances that are both difficult and difficult to practices. Can you help, please, Jason?

I agree! I’m currently working on my instrument and that’s harder

It’s the same concept as CRAFT. You are going to be given a heading, an altitude, and the approach/runway in that order. Also, don’t feel like you have to read back every word. Read back enough so that it is clear in both your mind and the controller’s that you are on the same page.

The clearance I got, but the taxi instructions blew a gasket 😂. ATC flies through them by rote memory.

Those were pretty easy.. fun ones are when you get all that and then they throw a SID or a STAR..

With your point about cheating, my dad would’ve said, “I’m just using the resources available to me.”

Nobody ever mentions the fact that the only thing you’re required to read back is the squawk code. 😮

? For an IFR clearance?
@tylercarr344010 ай бұрын
@@chrisr6385 Yeah I was surprised too. I guess I can see why they don’t advertise that though lol Try it sometime! Just make sure you’re certain there’s no confusion in your clearance, cause it’s on you if you didn’t hear it right.

I don't think that's correct, but if it is I would argue it's not safe at all
@tylercarr344010 ай бұрын
@@jacobanderson9292 It’s not a habit, but I tried it in Long Beach and it worked! It’s only unsafe if you don’t understand the clearance 🤷🏻♂️
