Big Train Tours - Cost-Saving Maintenance Vehicle: Rio Grande Southern Motor No. 6

Welcome to another Big Train Tour at the Colorado Railroad Museum! This month, we’re covering the second of three “Galloping Goose” motorcars displayed at the Museum, all of which were once owned and operated by southwest Colorado’s Rio Grande Southern railroad.
Our subject for this episode is a unique, narrow-gauge, motorized railcar that was designed and built not to haul passengers or freight, but rather to facilitate repair and maintenance work along this railroad’s rugged route. Today, Rio Grande Southern motor number 6 is proudly displayed at the Museum, with a unique history to share!

So grateful for the timing of our cab ride in the Gallopping Goose #5 there at the Colirafo Railway Museum on Monday June 5, 2017 as the locomotive being ran that day went out of commission and we were given our ride at the end of the day! Fabulous experience!
