The thing which surprises me most about your video's: how often KZbin recommends re-watching them, and how happy I am to re-watch video's like this one, or "An overlooked, insidious cause of failure", or "Truth about high end Acropora & buying advice"... Your content are the only reefing video's I find I'm able to happily sit through 2, 3, 4 times. And it's because you do a great job capturing simple lessons which serve as both a motivation and reminder.

100% agree with all of this. And I appreciate you showing that a variety of methods work as long as you adhere to the fundamentals. All too often people think what they put in the tank can make up for poor implementation of the fundamentals. I run Zeovit and I have found that people get carried away with additives and miss locking down the basics. I also agree on your take on nutrients. Thank you fir reiterating it. Guess tuning your skimmer and doing water changes isn’t as exciting as dosing the latest and greatest blue, purple or black bottles. None of it works well if the fundamentals are not set

So good mate! Will need to watch this a few times but the thing I love about this is that I think a lot of new reefers get confused about what they should do and we rarely hear a summary about what the best acro keepers use as their foundation (I realise this is also known as fundamentals). There's a lot of people on KZbin saying how to achieve a great tank - and the basics of those - but there's a lot of confusing stuff - especially on lighting and nutrient levels. There are great channels (like Keith's and yours) but I'm sure reefers like me find other channels first and get skewed information. Lately I think Mike Paletta has given really good information on several channels about what the best reefers are doing (but it's more advanced) - At an intermediate acro level there is the 2 Yoshi interviews by First Time Reefer TV - although that is only an example of 1. This is going beyond what I would say is anecdotal - there's actually some data in this video. It's structured and it goes back in time. Then it's delivered in a way a beginner acro keeper should be able to understand. So every new reefer that wants to keep acros should watch this video and I hope use these fundamentals as their baseline - well done!

NIce video! The thing about pastel acroporas being stressed stuck with me. In my mind, those acroporas grown in 40+ nitrates are stressed and I compare it with obesity. The acros are not supposed to (supposed as in what are they evolved in and to) have such dense zooxanthellae populations. Just look at dive videos or coral mariculture and coral collection. Those corals are pastel. The clearest example in my mind is Strawberry Shortcake. So many have SS that are basically dark blue and purple rather than light green and red. Growth tips are supposed to be white people! So yeah, the KZ tank is crazily cool!

Abe, I finally got my coral QT set up and rewatching your videos. Sorry if I missed the information, but how long do you observe the frags before putting it in your system?
@CoralEuphoria2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynn. I usually aim for at least 2 months. Theoretically it should be long enough for an AEFW life cycle. If a baby worm seeks through, you might not see it or notice bite marks if the QT is too fast.
