i agree, those pumps are beast & don't worry about the heat cause i've been running those for 6 months now 24-7 & had no problems with it. it does get really hot though, i run 8 lines to each pump.

Ive had one of those puppies running nonstop for the past 2 and half years on some of my larger tanks. A bit loud, which is to be expected with a linear piston pump, but she keeps on truckin'!

That black plastic cap that is on the back end of the air pump has a foam filter inside that you can take off and periodically clean to keep your pump running at maximum efficiency!

I've had one of these for about three years now. It was rather loud for a while, but once it gets broke in it quiets down a lot

Just curious as to how the pump is running now? I'm looking at purchasing something to replace all my small pumps and the price on this, the Ecoplus Commerical Air 1, or Dolphin EP30 look really good for the stated performance. But, time tells all and was wondering if you could do an update. Thanks for the video.

thx for review, maybe get a small fan to run on it just to be safe so it doesnt over heat and crack since it is a piston driven pump but for multiple tanks seems like it would be a good way to go

Exactly how loud is this pump? I want to use it in my 120 gal living room aquarium. Im not as picky as some because my current pump makes noise but not as bad as reviewers have said.

Thinking of getting a nice pump for my fish room might go with the one you have since you gave it a good review! Good stuff !!

Ok...If it must be in the same room AND you want to make it run as quiet as possible (60% - 75% quieter) you have to do several things. First: Take the back housing off. The one that has the air intake (one screw). Then remove the white back plate (four screws). There is a spring system with a single ball bearing, don't lose it. you are going to find that it is filthy. don't know where they put these things together, but this part was never cleaned properly or lubricated. Use a bit of three in one oil (or wd-40 it doesn't really matter this side is separate from the side that outputs airs to the tank). There are also 4four holes that intake air that is compressed and fed to the tank. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THOSE HOLES. You'll kill your fish or plants or whatever is living in your tank. Reassemble and you will find that it runs much quieter. Second: You see those rubber mounts? USE THEM. Even if you are going to hang it I suggest mounting it to something like a nice piece of hardwood. This will help Isolate the vibration a bit, and every little bit helps. Third: Create a muffler for the air intake. A plastic coffee can works great for this. I cut a hole big enough to run a couple of feet of 1/2" black tubing into the lid, then attached that to the can which has a lot of smaller holes in it (1/4" is good). You can also put open cell foam in the can and it will not block the air flow, but it is a great baffle. Fourth: Now here is the coup-de-gras. I have two of the Active Aqua AAPA70L pumps. They are a bit larger than the one you have and the low frequency noise is deafening at night, so here is what I did to really knock it down. Build a sound proofing box. Get a 20 gal plastic tote from Wally world and line it with acoustic or open cell foam (old patio furniture cushions). Drill four holes close to the corners of the lid. Suspend your mounting board from these holes so the pump is suspended as close to dead center of the box as you can. Run the air outlet hose out the front, attach manifold and lines. Then the air intake lines out the back. Attach your coffee can muffler to the air intake and plug it in. If you are worried about air pumps overheating you could always make two larger holes for 3" computer fans in the sides (one to intake and one to exhaust). But I have been running mine for months now and no issues. Air compression creates heat to begin with so the housing is going to get hot to the touch no matter what. BOOM.... now get some sleep.

do you know anything about air lifts jefe? im thinking about incorporating a couple air lifts in my tank to help pull detrius from the bottom of the water column up top to my overflow tower. if you do know anything about them, how many do you think this would run? thanks

A more realistic comparison would be to state the GPH (gallons per hour) that the pump is capable of producing. For this pump, that would be about 1,000 GPH.

One atmosphere [10 meters] is equal to the weight of the earth's atmosphere at sea level, about 14.6 pounds per square inch. If you are at sea level, each square inch of your surface is subjected to a force of 14.6 pounds. The pressure increases about one atmosphere for every 10 meters of water depth.

I'm having issues with some stones working and some not based on their depth in the water and tube length?! Do I simply need a stronger pump? I'm using a 3.5W PetSmart special.
@7777Ralph8 жыл бұрын
I've read that you want to have all the tube lengths the same.
@Jwhiser13028 жыл бұрын
Justin Mitchell you could try having them all the same but that would be a waste of tubing, it's been my experience that if the air pump won't run to the stone you need a stronger pump because of the pressure of the water.
@panzerwolf4946 жыл бұрын
Could always try adjustment valves too. I run the plastic manifold, then about 2 inches of tubing, and then the valves. Lets me control how much pressure and where it goes so I can balance out air stones

This air pump can run a whole small fishroom with up to 8-9 maybe more tanks depending on flow, output etc etc.

Can you please enlighten me of the units that you're referring to about your 8-9 here? I am completely a beginner in aquarium management (level zero). Thank you.

Hi, i just received this pump SL-65 from amazon.ca and its not very strong, doesnt have a big flow, is there a trick to trigger a stronger flow of air ? it doesnt push my skin on my hands like other have, i can open it maybe and add or tweak something ?

@juggler808able8 жыл бұрын
what about his noisy is there any way to silence it?
@Jwhiser13028 жыл бұрын
Mohamed Ghonaim there will be some noise with any linear pump, part of all the regular noises in a fishroom and gets out of mind after a while.
@ThomasWinders11 жыл бұрын
It's quite noisy... but if you consider a fishroom environment, you can manage some 50 tanks with just that. Wich is an infinite advantage, if compared to 50 single airpumps, one for each tank... but you have to manage to regulate the pressure in each line carefully. Well you know.. save some money... have to do some extra work... besides, "can't have it all from this life 'o mine!!!"

“This pump can fill up 90 SCUBA tanks in one hour…” unlikely. Maybe an EQUIVALENT VOLUME as found in 90 tanks but there’s NO way that pump can overcome the resistance of compressing that volume into such a confined space

It was working in the video! You didn't hear the hum it was making because it was plugged up? Also, it runs every air driven device on all of the tanks where my fahaka puffer tank is! Not so "stupid" now huh?
@panzerwolf4946 жыл бұрын
I'm sure he meant like hooked up to everything, not just dipping the manifold in, you know, to see what the real outcome is after all the tubing and stones and stuff is taken into account.

This type of pump will not last even for one year. I have two of them all last less than 6 months.

Jerry Chen hmmm..... that's weird, the one in this video is still running all the tanks on that rack and two others across my fishroom to this day. What's that, 5 years and still running strong like the day I installed it. It's running 11 sponges filters total.

your filling people's heads with rubbish ... won't fill scuba tanks just the volume of the tanks ... my scuba tank is 36 ltr at 300 bar ...that's 300 atmospheres
@Jwhiser13027 жыл бұрын
frankie4257 No sir, not rubbish. Giving people a size or volume comparison to give them an idea of how much air this pump moves was the goal. Notice how the majority of the people who watched and left comments understood this example, because they aren't so dense or thick headed to think that I meant it could fill a pressurize tank. I'm honestly hoping you're just trolling, and not on a comprehension level that you actually thought that I meant it could literally fill that type of tank! Either way, thank you for watching and dropping a comment, maybe in the future, listen carefully and try to comprehend what people are saying instead of making yourself out to be a tool. Also, try to remember that everyone who watches any video generally means they're looking for information or instruction on a subject or object and out of those people there are plenty who would appreciate a mental picture such as the one I made in this video with the comment on an oxygen tank. Lol
