A theory I like is that both mrs Lovat and her twin sister knew about the other world, but somehow only the twin decided to stay forever and got trapped, so mrs lovat never saw her sister come back to the real world, hence why she thinks it's dangerous for children. Kids have wild imaginations and parents don’t believe them about a lot that they say, you know, because it is super unbelievable stuff they say. But it’s the dynamic of a child and their parents, saying ridiculous stuff, parents playing along with it, and it never actually happened, just a child wild imagination. Also I don't think the other mother would target adults, they are far less naive and too diffficult to manipulate I think in this theory mrs lovat decided to keep the house and just protect future children by not ranting the house to family with children ? I mean I don't really know if I entirely believe in this theory, but it's true that it's suspicious that mrs lovat would avoid letting children live in this house just because she believed a random person kidnapped her. She must have known her disapearance had something to do with the house itself🤔

The reason the doll looks like Coraline is because the og doll (the one that looked like the missing sister) was in the trunk, before the other mother sensed a new child to lure into her web, and changed the doll to fit her appearance, before sending it back. Then Wybie found it, and gave it to Coraline.

I wonder why her sister was taken and not her? Maybe grandma was the favorite of the two to their parents for whatever reason and her sister felt left out. She was miserable while grandma was being noticed and loved by her parents hence why the Beldam chose her. Once she went missing, the family probably moved away after failed attempts of trying to find her sister and they wanted to move away from the place that brought them grief. As grandma got older, she never forgot about her lost sister and hopes that she’d find her around that area some day or she’d turn up. She doesn’t like renting the pink palace to people with kids because maybe she sensed that only bad things happen to kids there.

It’s explained that she IS the grandmas twin sister, and the doll was hers. Thus why it was built like her, in order to build a hidden camera for the bell dam to spy through. I don’t think the bell dam can make an area outside of the house, because as we see in the movie the world is confined to the house. And I think the only reason that is, is because she’s familiar with the house and it’s layout. Besides, it would be hard to make a kid jump out of bed and go all the way to another house to go through a little door. So no, I don’t think the grandma purposely let Coraline live there at the pink palace as a sacrifice, because as long as wybie didn’t live there he had no chance of being hunted by the bell dam. Also, the grandma probably only let them move in because she either A: was running out of money B: someone moved out or it was not vacant for a very long time C: she finally decided to let go of her superstitions of her missing sister and the house and gave kids a chance Or D: some of all of the above.

No, the doll was of the missing sister who went missing in the pink palace. Got her soul taken away. So his grandma doesn't want kids in the palace because she doesn't want them missing. The doll was in possession of the grandma, and then as we saw in the openning scene, the beldam took it and changed it to look like coraline. I don't think that she is working with the beldam because why would you want your sister killed? I thinkt hat her and her sister entered the other world together, and she was the only one who made it out alive. She rented the house to Coralines family because if you look at the door before it is unlocked, it is completely sealed from all sides, and Coralines mother had to cut the walpaper to open the door. Or the fact that behind the door was just a brick wall before the night Coraline entered the other world.

And also remember when wybie said that his grandma didn’t usually let the families in with kids? And since there were only three missing children behind the mirror, and the father told Coraline that the house was 150 years old means that she can survive up to 50 years when he eats one child so now that she was getting hungry and the grandma knew that to protect her own grandson, she let in Coraline family a.k.a. family with a child. But she still did her best to protect Coraline since she then sent wybie back to the house and asked for the door that he gave her back because she certainly knew that it was not supposed to be with her… there’s a lot of other things, but I’m just lazy to type
