The frag plugs from the coral I got from you guys had coraline on it and that's how I seeded my tank. I also like that there was coraline on the frags because I know the coral had time to settle before being sold.

I look for coraline in the tank if I want to do sps because it tells me it is ready for sps. That being said, I never really get it much. The purple up does somewhat work, remember you have to have coraline algae in the tank for it to work but I don't know if anyone had this problem but it caused a big bloom in spirorbid worms in my tank which are unharmful but they make your rocks looks really bad with small white spots everywhere.

I had that exact same problem man! I feel like we were on the titanic together 🤣

Started a tap water reef tank about 15 gallons, beat cyano some months ago, and now the green hair algae has gone and in its place Caroline algae is starting to grow, don't have the best water online for my area it says its very hard water, I'm not using protein skimmer only a hang on the glass fish breeder box with chaeto inside it growing with a purple light on top of the box

My calcium is around 600, which is really high, I know. I accidentally bought/used some reef salt mix that is high in calcium. I have some coraline, but it isn't growing like I want it to. Just a light skim in places on the back. Can you let us know what lighting is best, how many hours it should have that light, and anything else?

How about tank has been running for 1.5years and growing SPS (SPS dominated tank) in there but only a little bit coralline? Why is that?

For me coraline algae grows primarily on flat surfaces (i.e. panes of glass/acrylic), on pipes that are exposed to light of any way, or pumps that are also exposed to light, also the inside of my skimmer on the side that faces a window (yeah go figure on that!). For some reason in the 20 years of reef keeping coraline algae doesn't like rocks in my tank, I've had some don't get me wrong, but it tends to go on those other surfaces first and foremost and never had the true "purple rocks" that I often see in peoples tanks (all the while scraping the sh*t out of it off the panes)

Neither one of those products actually contain coraline, but like you say if you add some coraline from almost anything, snails, crabs, corals etc... both of those products will promote growth. I love the way it looks, I just wish it would STAY OFF THE GLASS and PUMPS! :-)
@tplummer2173 жыл бұрын
I never get tons of it. The rock will still look good with time, just with different stuff.

I've had my tank for years... And no coralline. I kind of gave up on it. Though I have coral plugs and shells with coralline.
