Funny you mention shortening them, these were made to replace the type 2 service boot during wwii. Paratroopers were worried about the leggings used w the type 2 due to potential snagging, so the QM issued the jump boots which are a tall version of the type 2(which is ab 6 inches). Theyre available at smwholesale and a wwii reproduction company called at the front. Great boots, I use them for reenacting and daily life.

This a jump boots and the are designed to do just that. They are not intended to be worn out and about on a daily basis. They are straight and lack the treads to avoid slippage. What you need is Corcoran 1525 Combat Field Boots. They have a Birds Mouth Notch halfway up the shin which always the leather to articulate with your leg whereas Jump boots dont have the Birds Mouth Notch hence its so stiff and rigid and causes blisters and pain. Also, Combat boots have Standard Soles whiich afford better traction and are supple.

i was pretty much looking for a more affordable red wing iron ranger. I know the Chippawa service boot is pretty good bang for the buck, but i was interested in a cap toe boot as well. I honestly didn't know about the "U.S. Military WWII Service Boots" which are a more accurate substitute for the iron rangers. But i dig the tall boots, gives me an option for more protection if i need it, while it is a little more time consuming to lace up. I didn't think of the slippage issue with the boots original design. But those combat field boots i may have seen but opted not to get them. I wanted as light on my foot as possible and the big tread may be too much weight and combat aesthetic for the streets, though useful for the hills. The notch would be killer on those boots, i just skip a lace hole, though that may look weird it works.

You should put some polish on those. And there are ways to make them waterproof, get some doc marten wonder balsam and melt it with a hairdryer, I used a paint brush and got it in all the seams and went over it with the hair dryer on a low setting once I was done just to make it melt into all the seams. I can now submerge them underwater for extended periods of time with no leakage. I recommend you try it

Corcoran uses a munson last , which is excellent as it allows peoples toes to splay out as nature intended. Only problem I've read online is that these lasts can last be too roomy, especially the heel. I know you sized down, and with that size down, do you notice much of a heel slip, like greater than 1\2 and inch? Or does it fit you fine in the heel? I know some heel slip is to be expected as all military boots are roomier than civilian boots as they are made with the assumption that a soilder will be wearing mandatory thick wool socks typically.
@vash95452 жыл бұрын
I'd say there isn't much slip, i have worn them without sicks too and they are comfortable, but some regular weight socks are fine, it is definitely hard to get real thick socks on, so I'd say the fit is perfect. Thanks for the info though!
@tarlwar99982 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. You know, I'm quite particular about boots fitting snug on my foot, and after trying some Corcorans, I've noticed they dont hold my feet tightly enough for my preference, most notably in the heel, which is kinda swimming in the heel even after sizing down 1 full size. I'm going to bite the bullet and look towards whites or nicks boots. Backershoe website seems to offer some whites at a more reasonable price, but they are still expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for! Thanks for the video.
@airborneJC5072 жыл бұрын
They stick to your feet after broken in. Wool socks make the dogs sweat but offer superior all-day comfort and blister resistance. You can get away with w wearing a $12 wool socks pair all day vs swapping $15+ 6pk hanes boot socks twice daily a couple times b4 they blow heel out. Wool is still king for endurance rucking.. Cheat Code is church socks over cotton though.. Lol

Oh what I juat figured out if you want to use orthodics is to buy the wide size It allows room for orthodics because the width is inversly proportional to the height. For example I wear an 11d regular 11E handles a insole cusion and orthotic, on my 11H size red wing I have basically orthodics and 3 insole cushions get it? I got the standard and they fit fine, i can wear thin ones, but thick just have a harder time getting in the boot, and thick wool socks would not work well for me, it'd be difficult getting on, i'd say some darn tough hikers with thick toes, thick heels, and thick shins may be an alternative to completely thick socks. they are tall so be prepared for that, and break-in is not that bad as I remember.
