To me this is so refreshing to see it’s possible to source all of the raw materials in the USA. Soo many brands tell us as consumers it’s impossible because of A B C reasons. This dedication from Origin sticks a finger directly in the industry’s eye ! Good on them and I truly hope they can maintain success with this business model.

It is simply not feasible for a lot of companies to do this. It’s very possible for almost any company to have their product made in the US but to have the entire process from sourcing to a finished product happen in the US would leave many companies hung out to dry. A company that doesn’t already do this would have to start with a new business model from scratch just to manufacture a boot this way and sell it for a profit. Completely different animal from outsourcing materials and making the product in the US, which I do think more companies should do and can do.

Good effort by Origin. I wouldn't be too upset about the veg tan leather. The best veg tan is made with tree bark, e.g. oak or kebracho. It makes sense to make it close to the source rather than import the tanning materials. It is also good foreign policy to support an artisan's skill in a region that has a long history in that trade.

I’m a Canadian. This video and product is awesome. I love to see any people be able to produce a start to finish product in their own country, region, and/or locality. It’s great to see a “Made in the USA” story. It’s a good thing for your people, your place, and a GREAT thing for the environment to build things that are near where they will be used. Local manufacturing and sourcing prevents excessive shipping of products. THIS is what would actually create more efficient global energy use, not counter-productive carbon taxes and other punishing restrictions that unnecessarily offshore production. It also makes for more resilient, sustainable, and efficient supply chains. Trade is great, but close to home production is far superior in efficiency, and necessary for a healthy world. It should be a thing that entrepreneurs and environmental stewards should be able to agree on.

I decided to take a chance on these and I am not disappointed at all. I got them a few days ago and they are incredibly comfortable for a new pair of boots. While they're too new to give a real "review", my initial opinion of this boot is very high. I bought the Coronado with the big lug sole. I won't be wearing these for work but for most everything else. I'm a heavy duty truck mechanic and really need steel toes and my current daily work boot is the Red Wing Supersede 2.0. I get heel rub when I walk or run. 2. The boots are WIDE on the inside. They are a D width and I have a D foot, but i can press in several places and I do mot touch my foot. As a result, my foot tends to slide left to right and since the toe box is so small (has a toe cap) my toes catch my movement and I come home limping some days.

I've never personly worn Danner boots but the Origin boots were similar to the thorogoods for me as far as fitment. The AR8s in terms of how it’s constructed is very similar to the Razorbacks. Biggest upside to Jim Green’s boots (I have been eyeing the AR8s myself after enjoying the Razorbacks as my work boots for 2 years) is the AR8 if you buy a pair a pair is then donated to the South African Park Rangers. So far the reviews I have seen the of AR8 have been very positive for a good durable sub $200 boot. I would say with a nice insole they would be amazingly comfortable. For the record the Razorbacks have held up really well for me and based on the wear of the sole I’m looking at easily ten years before resoleing.

I've gotta thank you guys for this video. I had never heard of Origin before, but after watching this I decided to give them a try when it came time to buy my new flight boots. I got a pair of the American Bison 6" Mini Lug boots and they are fantastic. There is definitely a bit of a break-in period for the upper, though it's not bad. I've had mine for less than a week and while there have been some minor hot spots, I've been wearing them pretty much non-stop without developing any blisters or sores. The soles needed no break-in and were comfortable from day one. I've also gotten several compliments on how great they look. The fact that they're made in Maine from (almost) entirely U.S. components makes it even better. What a great purchase!

Nice to see a company doing something like this. My only question with regards to sourcing is the soles, foam, footbed, eyelets and laces etc are sourced from companies that make them in America. Do those companies source the raw materials they use from America only also? Or are the components assembled from foreign raw materials?

I bought a pair of Lincoln boots from origin in 2019, and I made a point to ask for an “ugly” piece of leather or one that wasn’t so perfect. They sent me a boot with some natural stretch marks or scars from the cow and it looks so cool. They are NOT heavy duty work boots they are super comfortable once you break that thick midsole in and make sure you condition the leather BEFORE you start breaking them in. Once you find an insole you like the process is a sinch. And these shoes are still my every other day boot for light to medium duty work and still intact no resole needed yet.

Great video. I dunno if it's actually like a cut and dry thing but would be interesting to know why midsoles come from south America. Do they raise cattle varieties that produce better suited leather or is it a somewhat specialized divergence from regular tanning processes and they made the investment to do it and cornered the market?

My great grandfather on my mom’s side ( I can’t remember if it’s the Leach or Wicker side) used to make the manuals for using and repairing the looms and other equipment in the mills around North Carolina. He was even the basis for a book written about life in his time. Called “About a Boy”. I found a copy of it in the archives of UNC Chapel Hill and printed up and bound a copy for my mom. It’s not an easy read, it was written in the style of the way people spoke in the area. Like how Mark Twain would write. Lots of weird spellings and words broken up with apostrophes.

Been following the Origin story for a while and have been waiting on a solid review of the boots. Redwings are a reliable boot; but with this I might look into dropping the money on Origin. That said; would really love to see you do a review on Haix. Personally I think they are an incredibly well built and comfortable boot. Could roll it into an entire series on fire/EMS boots like the military.

You should consider trying to get your hands on the black version of the canadian army leather boot (gore tex version) … as a explorator for minerals and adventurer, i have been using them in all conditions and they are very cheap (depending where you find them) and they are as good as the irish setter ones. FIND THEM AND CUT THEM IN HALF. Best boots known to men seriously and truly waterproof.

I'm retired so I don't wear workboots anymore. These Origin boots are the first casual boots I would consider owning. Comfort, durability, and cost are primary concerns. Looks are secondary but just as important -- who wants to wear ugly boots with nice clothes? I could wear a pair of Origin boots on a date and not be concerned that my lady friend would judge them harshly. I bet my buddies would approve as well! Great review, Rose Anvil! 🤩😎

Great review! Loved it, but almost at the very end he just hit dead on on one of my most hated pet peeves: @17:09 he states that "literally" every component is sourced/made in the U.S.... to then say "except" for the leather midsole. Lol. It's such a small detail, and insignificant at the end of the day. But it's bewildering to me how people tend to use/overuse the word "literally"...sometimes just to contradict themselves seconds after. I loved how thorough the review is...and I'm considering buying a pair of these boots myself.
