I feel like some of these woman refused to call them selves beautiful, not because they believe they are ugly but because it's taboo and seen as conceited to call yourself beautiful. Society as a whole is constantly romanticizing the girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is because she is seen as down to earth and humble. It's what we are programmed to do.

+Cordero Roman Okay, I just went through your channel and found your person quite interesting, quite relatable to, humorist-ically and philosophically speaking. I would like to dig into your psyche, because that's the kind of stuff I do, especially when you seem to be an interesting person as I've searched (not stalked) some of your stuff, and it's quite appealing in a way that you aren't active on your fb page for instance, yet, so into making fun and sometimes deep videos. So I could've sent you a direct message on your facebook, but felt more mysterious commenting from an anonymous profile. But I did send you a fb request though, thought you might receive a lot of them and probably not notice this comment but somehow you're quite a discrete person in terms of social media promotions and stuff, even if you do are very indiscrete and quite confrontational which is how I believe everybody should be, (kidding obviously) but yeah! Good luck and hope you remain authentic and not influenced by 'superficial desires' as I've termed these things I can't explain, and it's fine if you do. I like attention too.

I used to be fat and did not consider myself beautiful. I went to the gym to lift weights and do cardio, ate healthy and used make up. I lost 66lbs. I would consider myself beautiful now but I was beautiful back then too but I could not see it. I still have the same eyes, same smile and to be honest I was a lot more interesting person. I was less shallow and did a lot with my talent which is art. I was just...overweight. But I was still a human being. It is sad we only see the appearance of people as beautiful, but not the whole person. I think society would consider me a pretty or beautiful girl now but i'm sad that you can only be called beautiful when you fit in a certain image. My boobs are not perky anymore from losing 66lbs, my hair (on top) is thinning and I have strong calves. I have flaws, I am not perfect but I do believe I am beautiful. I am 5ft with short legs, butI think it's cute. I have a genuine smile and I also smile with my eyes. I am kind, people describe me as a genuine and honest person. Instead of focusing on your insecurities, focus on being positive, learn to happy with yourself.

Besje: Congrats on weight loss! Some good news for you. I too lost a bunch of weight at one point (and agree some things were more beautiful when I was heavier..curves for one!). Anyway, the same thing happened to me: With weight loss, I lost some of my previously very thick, shiny hair, my boobs weren't perky as they had been, and my face looked older which I was not happy about. Here's how to combat: (1) Protein. Eat that cheeseburger on cheat day now that you're working out, and be sure to eat protein within 30 min. after your workouts. It does wonders for hair. (2) Time. The skin is an organ and it can't change as fast as you lost weight. It will catch up with the weight loss in time, and lift the boobs again. Until then, do the "Must increase my bust" exercise. It works! (hands together in front of your chest, press them toward one another). And you're right: you are beautiful either way. Best wishes!

Beauty is ultimately a subjective value, a psychological idea formulated by a never-ending mass of thoughts, feelings and physical perceptions, thus can change at any point in time, so what's the point of trying to please others before yourself? Isn't it the only path to happiness, to give priority to your own idea of beauty? I'm not saying to ignore everyone or pretend that you feel beautiful when you don't, I'm saying to please yourself first, to try and reach your idea of beauty before anyone else's, to look yourself in both the visual and introspective mirror, to define who you think you are and who you want to be, and find the best way to build that philosophical bridge into reality. Only then you'll be able to truly satisfy yourself and your loved ones.

It's because of videos like this which pretends that everyone is beautiful. No, not everyone is beautiful. +Deadass ThiccBob - Such a great question, but why the that name?
@TheFunnygym7 жыл бұрын
Inklan Utterfield I don't think so. I think everyone is beautiful. There is not one beauty standard that depicts what a beautiful person looks like. For example, someone doesn't find scaring and lip stretching that some tribes do very attractive, while it's beautiful to them. Someone thinks my hair is beautiful and someone doesn't. Someone finds pale or dark skinned people pretty. Someone thinks skinny/curvy/ fat people are beautiful. There are men who love their wives being overweight, while my ex was never happy with my body because my boobs were too small.
@davidfernandes16087 жыл бұрын
Because beauty drives and attracts men and women! We usually want the best of whatever version we can obtain of anything. E.g We want the best looking food, best looking car, best looking house, best looking clothes, best looking phones ect within our own capabilities/expenditure, yes of course whats on the inside matters as well such as the taste of the food, the applications of a phone, the performance of the car. But we are innately attracted by the way they look. If you were to ask people if they would rather have a Mercedes that runs like a KIA or a KIA that runs like a Mercedes most people would choose the Mercedes that runs like a KIA.
@Becksnnc8 жыл бұрын
From the first question if someone asked me that and I just replied with a confident answer I'd think that would come across as me being arrogant, vain and full of myself. I think that's why they all found it awkward to answer it. Not because they don't think they are beautiful necessarily. I'm happy with my image and how I treat people. I think I'm a nice, kind person. At least I try to be but I wouldn't come out like "I think I'm beautiful because I'm this that and the other." You know what I mean?

That is not okay, society has taught us that if you think you are beautiful, then you are self absorbed. Why is that? It may be because those people who are placing those judgments on you, are insecure about themselves. I think I am beautiful. And there is nothing wrong with that. It isn't hurting anybody else. They should try it

Look, here's the thing. More people than recorded (i.e., the 4%) may think they are beautiful... but, it is an unspoken fact that women are never to call themselves beautiful-- that would be narcissistic, arrogant and obnoxious and instantly cancel any hope of inner beauty. It has to do with modesty and humility, two qualities considered to be more important than confidence. I remember being told when I was a girl, "it is for others to decide if you are beautiful. You must focus on being good." Our whole society trains us not to focus on ourselves. Those that do call themselves beautiful tend to be so self-involved or shallow they re-enforce the ugliness of it. Incidentally, why was it only women who were asked these questions? Is it because women struggle with it more than men?

+Marige OBrien This article clears up some confusion. www.scientificamerican.com/article/you-are-less-beautiful-than-you-think/ I don't know where the 4% comes from. It seems completely made up. The reason a lot of people don't call themselves good looking in front of others is exactly because of what you said. It's narcissistic, and most people don't respond well to that. People who learn this lesson stop doing it, and that's a good thing because it demotes narcissism and promotes pleasentness.

The question shouldn't be if people think they're beautiful, let alone if thats difficult, because that's not (and arguably shouldn't be) a person's goal. So giving people assurance that they're beautiful is kind of inadvertently telling them "you should feel beautiful." Just because a woman doesn't feel beautiful doesn't mean they think they're ugly, or are self conscious. Encouraging people to know that they are capable of being strong, successful, inspiring, loving, disciplined, or whatever else is really the message people need to move forward. A sense of beauty shouldn't be the focus. I do think some people are externally and aesthetically more beautiful than I am, but it doesn't take away from my self-worth. A sense of beauty isn't a pre or co-requisite to happiness.
@moonfire416 жыл бұрын
I love that you made this. I've been insulted so many times by both men and women who feel they need to tell me how ugly I am. I had two guys tell me I'm no Katy Perry. I had another younger woman say I'm ugly as fuck. I notice everywhere I go the younger pretty women being treated like they're goddesses and I'm either seen as ugly or invisible. It's been like this my whole life, not just as I've gotten into my 50s. I had one guy in a store tell me I ruined his appetite just for appearing in front of him. So it's near impossible for me to have good self esteem. I'm not overweight, only about 150 and 5'4". I used to be too skinny in my 20s and was self conscious of that so I started gaining weight in my 30s but now it's gone the other way. All in my stomach too. I don't eat that much, and exercise. But I think it's my face that's the most ugly. I hate the backs of my hands because the veins and tendons stick out too much because I don't have thick enough skin and they look old ladyish, so I try to hide them in the company of people, or hold them up on something so the blood doesn't make them bulge out. They still look transparent and creepy though. The only two times in my life when I was beautiful were when I was a teenager and again in my 40s when I put on a lot of makeup and sexy clothes at the goth club for 5 years. Now I"m broke and dumpy/frumpy again and trying to get more money so I can at least look acceptable. Without makeup I look like something from a horror movie.

I think a lot of us women don't know how to receive the compliment, "You're beautiful." Any time I'm told I am, even by my husband (especially him in fact) I get really red in the face and shyly say thank you, partly because I'm very flattered, but also because it feels unexpected. Growing up, I never felt beautiful compared to some other women. My husband always tells me I am, and I believe him because he makes me feel more beautiful than anyone ever has. In fact, he was the first person who ever truly made me feel like I was. I severely lacked self confidence when it came to my looks before I met him, no matter who or how many people said those same words to me before. I still remember the first time he said to me, "Surely you know I think you're pretty." My heart exploded with joy (we were just friends at the time, but I was totally crushing on him and thought he was incredibly handsome, but I wasn't 100% about how he felt towards me). Honestly though, I don't think women are told that they're beautiful enough, growing up, and that's why we have a hard time accepting and believing such a compliment. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but never ever make someone feel ugly or tell them they are because that will always be in the back of their mind, even if it's just one time compared to a thousand times they've been told otherwise. Negative comments cut deeper than knives. Everyone is beautiful. Maybe not to you, but to someone they are more radiant than the sun.

People keep saying it doesn't matter what someone else thinks of you. but in fact it does matter. Just don't let the opinion of a few bring your self esteem down.
@BanShogo9 жыл бұрын
+danpt2000 exactly, what matter is that you be honest with yourself wether you're beautiful or not and just accept it and don't try to fit in. Like in this video the guy was asking if they're beautiful or not, nobody could answer for themself, because they're not being honest with themself and trying to fit in. So let's be honest here not everyone is beautiful (in or out), so what? If they think they're not beautiful, they should accept it and not afraid of someone said they have low self esteem etc (and vice versa if they think they're beautiful then accept it and not afraid of someone might saying they're arrogant or narcissist.) Just be honest and accept it.
@danpt20009 жыл бұрын
BanShogo I sort of agree with most of your post, but every1 wants to fit in, be part of a group. Just don't be too desperate. If the group doesn't appreciate you, there are others who will. Getting angry is waste of energy. Just keep working on yourself, live well, and be happy.

You don't say you are beautiful, but you prove it by saying you are not. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and that goes without saying. What is important to keep in mind is that acting with modesty is what makes people beautiful - an attitude that was embraced by all the girls in this video and most probably by that 99.9 % of women who were part of that research. Thinking and saying that you are indeed beautiful will only make you a little narcissistic, so no wonder it comes naturally to say you don't consider yourself that. The majority of people know we are ok just the way we are, but saying it out loud destroys the essence of the word - a beauty that could be enhanced by being modest.
@evacookie21947 жыл бұрын
Or at least that's what society tells us to think like.

There is a huge difference with being confident and being narcistic. Thinking you're beautiful isn't narcistic. It's crazy to me that people perpetuate the idea that they're not allowed to think they're beautiful because then they are arrogant. Women shouldn't have to confine themselves to the "modesty" box. Be confident, think you're a beautiful person inside and out, tell the world or whatever. You shouldn't feel shamed for liking yourself.
