Hey Everyone, In this video I will be taking a look at a Cordless Grass Shear and seeing if it can be used for lawn edging or if the string trimmer is still the best option instead of garden shears. I will be using Gardenas grass shear and I think it should be one of the best cordless grass shears out there.
Here are some examples of grass shears available. I would definitely have a look at the Sun Joe or Scotts if I wanted to get one.
Scotts grass shear with extension handle: $60
amzn.to/3B1wHCV
Sun Joe grass shear without extension handle: $39
amzn.to/2Xj8av0
Sun Joe grass shear with extension handle: $59
amzn.to/2XouZO4
Greenworks 24V Cordless grass shear and shrubber, Battery and Charger Included: $97.49

For Swedish residence! The one I use in the video is available here:

Makita DUM604ZX costs around 60eur and it's great. I use the scissors for cutting grass in corners, around fence poles and trees, where my mower can't reach. The hedging attachment is plenty powerfull but it's hard to get an even cut because of it's short length. For edging I use Wolf-Garten multi-star RB-M and it works great but you need a hard surface oposite to grass.

Hi Ivan, for sharing this, was really curios how the Makita would work, but over here it cost 120 euros, but that one is 18v right? That would work awesome I imagine, the problem with this one is that it's just too weak. But then again I think 120 euros for what it does is maybe a bit too much for me.

The Stihl one is very good on small Boxwood balls and Cedars shaped in some way. I have one but use the tiny hedge blade most often to cut back small areas when perennial plants fade and cutting back hanging baskets plants in late summer. It's limit is the space between the teeth is very small. I will go watch the edging video now!

I have a very old black & decker electric one lying in my garage, had belonged to my mother. Didn't even know what it was until seeing your video.lol However, decided to try it out yesterday. Honestly didn't think much of it, could it be a bit blunt now.?
@SamsLawn
@SamsLawn 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, never actually heard of these machines being blunt, I mean, they are not sharp to begin with. Maybe the motor has weakened over time or it just wasn't set low enough? Did it not take or what happened when you used it?

I have the Sun Joe grass and hedge trimmer with pole. I used it for the first time the other day. Today I used it for 3 hours. I trimmed where you’d normally use the weed whacker around gardens, fences, etc. I was pleased with it. It’s not perfect, there is a method. I love that you can change the position of the trimmer if you want it at a 90 degree angle or 45 degree angle.

Use it for hedges. The extension handle doesn't extend further 😮. It's better than doing it by hand scissors.

Maybe for smaller hedges this would be perfect. But for the bigger hedges I have I would rather use something bigger.

Hey Mate, I understand your dilemma here, I really wanted these to work but I still can't see how they are more useful than a normal string trimmer. So I would go with a string trimmer any day and now I got some nice stone edges to not shoot in stones on the lawn instead :)
@BrettSucks
@BrettSucks Жыл бұрын
I have got some of those made by ferrex (Aldi) £20, & I do my edging with them , I don’t use strimmers ,I gave mine away a few years ago as they don’t cut the grass ,they bash the tops off, I think that’s why most people have dodgy looking thin grass at the edges🤣, they give a really clean cut that matches my husqvana manual push mower, you might change your mind about them if you used a better quality version of them, but my lawn is only 65square meters so it doesn’t take long for me to go round the edges , it will probly not be good for very large lawns though.
@SamsLawn
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
I actually got rotary scissors to try out, going to a video with it. As you point out, I really don't like the trimmers, it really just bashed off everything leaving a mess. I think a more powerful grass shear would have probably done a better job, hopefully the rotary scissors do to :)
@BrettSucks
@BrettSucks Жыл бұрын
@@SamsLawn Rotary scissors looks really good but really expensive & you also need the compatible machine to attach them to, I would like some but They are out of my price range so I’ll carry on with the electric shears as I only have 65 square meter lawn, I only cut my edges on every second mow.
@SamsLawn
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
@@BrettSucks same for me they always been in a 500-600 euro range, but one night i just saw one by accident for 140, thought it was a scam, went by the store day after and picked it up, must have been priced wrong, seemed very strange. Otherwise i would never have bought one, haven't used it yet but I doubt it's worth 500-600.

I have a small farm and I need to cut closely around fruit trees. After our wet rainy season my is up to 6’ high with tough steams. I was hoping your review would include some thick rank grass cutting. Just cutting small tame grass is not much of a test.
@SamsLawn
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Well, it might be more useful for cutting through tough stems but other than that I really don't see that this thing is more useful than a good string trimmer to be honest. I used it on what I have available around my lawn, unfortunately I do not have anything with tough stems. Hope you find another video showing that. Thanks for dropping by Mike.

@@barbarabrougham3467 Hi Barbara, replacing hand clippers actually makes a lot more sense, didn't even think of that, that could be a very good use for them. But then I would get the cheapest ones I can find no matter the brand, I bet they are all made in the same factory but have different branding, so it shouldn't matter. 😊
@mikemccright7418
@mikemccright7418 Жыл бұрын
I ended up buying a Makita grass shears. I couldn’t really tell if it was the strongest one but it looked like it was the best one out there for strength and durability. I used it some around the trees that I have with the thick stems and it cuts through them OK. Is will not cut through tougher weed stems larger than 3/16”. I am older too and that is why i went the power tool route. Better to wear out a tool than me.

Afther long time use you have to sharp the blade cuting wet grass, dirt, hiting rocks can damage the blade & doesen’t work the same, also some oil between them & full charge battery improves the cutting
@SamsLawn
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, the cutting wasn't really the problem, I just don't see the point between using this over a string trimmer to be honest. Not sure what I would do with it.

@@SamsLawn I also have the string trimmer, but my shear is a raider 7.2V I can use it under benches,but I also cuted small growing trees, still it uses a sponge to not let things get inside, so a bit of seeds infiltrated to the spining mecanism witch it's made from plastic.

du glömde att förlänga skaftet :) den passar perfekt när man har gräs imot trall och blomlådor. funkar bättre än trimmer som lägger ner gräset åt ett håll oftast.
