Brilliant. I have spent what seems like forever trying decide whether to scarify or rake when my new machine arrives next week. I raked for the first time ever last year with a borrowed machine and the results were amazing. I am not going to bother with the scarifying stage and rely on raking 2 to 3 times a year. Thanks once again for the comparison.

Hey Tony, that is exactly what I do usually, I very rarely feel the need to scarify at all. Glad you found the video helpful, thanks for dropping by mate.

@officemanager86248 күн бұрын
You have to rent a power rake to get true thatch removal results. It will actually destroy the lawn, and then you'll need to immediately reseed. It should only be used if thatch layer is greater than 1/2". And should be done sparingly thereafter. In between applications, the dethatcher or scarifier should be used. (Power rake is the one with blades).

Your lawn is so amazing!! If I were your neighbor I would be so jealous 😁 Thanks for the video. I wonder if mine will ever look like this ...My tall fescue has started to germinate around day 8 but a couple of days after seeding 4 of my rotor sprinklers broke down and I had to step on the seed to change them, also today, day 10, we had some very heavy rain and I hope all this did not mess up the seeds. I am really looking forward to your next video.
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey Lucy, thank you very much! If you just keep at it and be consistent with mowing, pulling weeds and fertilizing you will have a lawn as or even more beautiful than mine! Just keep at it! :) Heavy rain usually leads to some bare spots, but hopefully not that many and you can overseed them later on :)

Im over in the states, i did a full renovation with Barenbrug RPR and HGT at a almost 50/50 mix, accidently broke the ⅓ rule pretty hard 😬 it yellowed out bad, but todays mow basically cut out the yellow, total lawn is 1 month old

There was something I saw in your video that was very interesting! Were you burning a spot? If my guess was right, what is the purpose of it?
@SamsLawn2 ай бұрын
Hey mate, that is correct, in a video I burnt of weeds and poa on the lawn, wanted to try it out, since burning them lightly will cut of their capability to get air, causing the entire plant, including the roots to die off. Did that since when pulling I always miss some root somewhere and it just grows back :)

Do you only use this manual push mower? Cause we can see an allett liberty i think mower, and it's not the same thing ahah

I use it when the other mowers are too heavy or I might risk damaging new grass, otherwise I use the Allett :)

My lawn is a mess I’m not sure if u should buy the Verticutter or the power rake
@SamsLawn2 ай бұрын
It depends on why it´s a mess and what you are trying to achieve really, I know it´s a boring answer, but there is an inflation in the lawnworld that scarifying or power raking will solve all problems, but it´s very overused. If you could describe what issues your lawn has I might be able to give better advice on what to do :)
@yourlotusflower44142 ай бұрын
@@SamsLawn hi I moved in recently so it was overgrown. I removed all the bigger weeds but I find the grass isn’t really growing it’s really patchy and where it’s green it’s mostly weeds. There are dips and bumps but otherwise it’s sort of level. I’ve only had to cut it down couple of times since I moved end of May. Overall It’s looking pretty sad. My front garden is pretty much all weeds too and very bumpy. Can I do anything now or do I have to wait for spring? I’m in the uk so the weather has turned already. I have a tiller I had bought because were I lived before it was clay soil and hard as rock here I can see a bit of clay but it’s nowhere near as bad. I just got a compost tumbler but it will be a few months before it’s ready.
@yourlotusflower44142 ай бұрын
@@SamsLawn hi again the end goal is to have a fluffy lawn with flower beds I’m also looking to grow some veg at the bottom of the garden eventually. I have a shady area which has some gravel but not near enough so I’m putting plants there and eventually I will put down a weed barrier and bark on that side. It’s a uk garden so it has a little path.
@SamsLawn2 ай бұрын
@@yourlotusflower4414 Hi, I think you should wait until next year, for now just try to mow it as often as is needed for whatever time is left of the season and start making a plan for next year. Then next year start by scarifying heavily, maybe even hollow core aerate, then overseed and use a weed and feed after a couple of weeks to get rid of all the weeds. I think some herbicides are allowed in the uk? After that it´s just a matter of mowing consistently and fertilizing consistently, it will make a huge difference. Love the idea of garden beds, can I suggest some dahlias there, tried it for the first time this year and now I just want more of them, they improve the overall look and feel of the entire garden so much, they are just awesome!

Perhaps an optical illusion but It appears as if the cylinder is going towards the cutting blade rather than backwards when you backlap?
@SamsLawn Жыл бұрын
Hey Mate, I agree it looks like it is spinning towards the bed knife, which of course it shouldn't. I want to say that it's just an optical illusion but knowing myself I might just as well have forgotten to put the drill in reverse 😅But you are 100% correct in any case, it should go backwards away from the bed knife.
