Core drilling 5ft diameter hole in 6ft concrete wall on Dam

That is amazing. Looks like just an acro prop at the end to support the rail system. But a tension cable near the acro to stop it swaying. Such a small drill point turning that huge core drill you would think someone can invent a much bigger circumference shaft for turning so that there will not be so much stress on such a small point. Looks like a big crack in the wall right through. I wonder if they tested the concrete for density. As concrete has an approx life max strength 100 years.

Dear friend what do you use to hold the drill bit at the begining of the hole, does the weigth represent a problem, how dis you get the rid of the concrete in the drill bit after the work? regards for your answer

WOW! that is one big drill! I have got a drill half that size stuck, and it was a pain in the *** to take loose :/ i could just imagine how that would be if it got stuck! how many KW powerpack do you use?

Did you find the 'ON' switch for the second one? seriously though, must be quite tedious drill for 7 hours, do you have to do much or just keep an eye on the machine?

you'd probably have to pull out every so often and break all the concrete out so as the finished core didnt end up so heavy it'd destroy the core drill on removal

@refamagroup You can anchor rollers around the bottom and sides of your bit to keep it in line while you start the drilling, after its started it pretty much stays in line. Most important to make sure you start the hole level! any angle depending on how deep will make your job a nightmare! To get the core out we would measure the wall thickness and drill to within 1/2 " of breaking through then pull out, break out core with sledge and wedge, attach eye bolt to middle of core and backhoeerout!

Yes, I believe it is for the new spillway, which is a pipe that sticks up in the middle of the lake. When they built the new dam I think they just left the old one inside of it.
