I did something a while back that made a massive positive difference in my life: I stopped watching and consuming mass media, and started talking with my neighbors. This came from my grandmother, who always told me that the most important things happen within a block of home, and not in a newspaper. (She was done with mass media way back in the depression.) This was one of the best changes I've ever made. I'm happier, I have helped to build a strong sense of community, and I know what people really think, rather than what I'm told people think.

23:00 This is the opposite experience I have had. Every place but one that I've worked at has demanded 100% from their employees, then dumped them, thrown them under the bus, and done everything they possibly could to not reward them for their efforts. your business may be different and deserve that attitude, but for most people having that attitude make you vulnerable to the guys, whether managers or co-workers, willing to step on you to get ahead.

excellent discussion on the "shark attack" mentality.... I was no badass.. but endured a lot of stupid shit. I got hurt and was not eligible for re-enlist... my career ended. something triggered Lupus.. yeah, I got hurt. but I dealt with that. I still deal with that. but this shit is fucking me up. I functioned at a very high level... even after messing with CARP paint... as a FCC Consulting Engineer. I honestly feel the 24/7 for months/years on end... sleeping 3-4 hrs... I think that is what messed me up. that being said.. the military experience prepared me for that. but it didn't prepare me for having 3 strokes. Pete Donnely inspires me... thank you for that podcast. Pete rocks! God bless him and prayers for his family and his recovery. I'm done...lol eta.. not done...lol my job was to accomplish things to enhance the media domination... when I got laid-off in 2008... I walked away from consulting. I made a change in my life because I no longer felt I was doing a good thing. I have spent the last 10 yrs working at a wastewater plant. this is honorable... I turn shit into ultra-pure water. my contribution. I make 1/5 of what I used to... but I can live with myself. my father was a Vietnam Vet... he once told me. there are two things no one can take from you. only you can give them away. they are your honor and your integrity. that burns into my mind to this day. stand up. stand the flag. good talk guys!

Speaking as an ignorant civilian, I think there might be a solution to the "basic training is too hard" mentality. Instead of seperate recruiting offices, there should be a building set up with all branches in it, but none immediately visible when you walk in. Instead, there should be a testing center where you check in for a round of testing that covers everything. Physical, ASVAB, Psych eval, etc, etc. After all of this you are given a list of branches and MOS's that you are most likely to be applicable with. My thoughts are that this eliminates a lot of people who are probably not cut out for service. Lazy people leave when they see testing, those who can't pass.... can't pass, those who see that the branch or MOS they wanted isn't there and leave, probably not who you wanted in that position. Those who are left that continue on to speak with recruiters are already pre-screened and it helps the recruiters pinpoint where someone should go. Not saying there wouldn't be flaws, but as an ignorant civilian whose closest thing to service was being a security guard (which is nowhere NEAR any kind of service) it seems to make sense that people should be screened before wasting a recruiter's time and taxpayers money by going to MEPS and ultimately basic training, to possibly be set up for failure. Just my 2 cents. Edit: I really hope that lady was just taking the piss with that knitted mask. If she was serious, we need to remove her from the gene pool. Employees at some local businesses are wearing panty hose masks just to please corporate.

Really the thing we need to do is stop sending Business majors / lawyers and such into politics.. Send Engineers / Doctors / Teachers / Military vets who've fought in combat not just sat behind a desk and ordered people around.. Im 42yrs old and been thinking about this for long time, since I read a book by Tom Clancy and how the US was hit by suicide attack that killed bunch of Congress and senator's and the Pres in one strike.. When Jack Ryan took office (title character) anyway in the book Ryan now President needs to reconstitute the Senate and Congress - to do so he asks the American people to send Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, etc instead of the career politician people the ones whose only goal is to keep in office every election.. Granted that's a work of Fiction - but it makes sense - Career Politian's only want to be in office, to generate good enough will to win over Voters to keep them in Office, and its been proven they will Lie, cheat, and berate others who try to say they shouldn't be in office.. Perhaps we need to start implementing a strategy to push for more people who have done more real work in their lives and not just sat behind a desk to make deals that benefit themselves (cause its clear how they go from low income to stupid income levels soon as they reach a set level.. Look at their history - look where their money is coming from.. Politicians are Ultimate insider ) not only that but look at how they get these 501c charity's (Bill / Hillary foundation) and they HIRED their own daughter to work there.. and she makes how many thousands of dollars right out of college?? but hey its a 501c.. The next thing I disagree with.. is Church's being tax free.. I know some churches should qualify - but some of these fucking things they call church should not.. Number 1 being these fucking televangelists like Joel Olsten and other of his ilk.. then include the Scientologist fucknuts..

Agree with you 1,000% on the strategy of, when you up and decide to remove a training technique from the Drill Instructor's repertoire, then PLEASE, have the decency to at least replace it with something that will offer the same level of responsiveness from the recruits. Otherwise, all you're doing is pulling one Jenga brick out, without replacing it in another spot. You aren't building anything of value, you're just ensuring the tower of Combat Effectiveness comes crashing down that much faster.
