The "work" I do used to be deep. Then the corporate greed crept in and they started adding more tasks in order to have less people doing the tasks. In healthcare it's become the norm. and that is why there are so many medical mistakes, small and large.

The importance of deep work is the quality of output. Deep work is the innovation which moves the needle, the practical application of deep insights which makes the individual or company more successful (as measured in the most important metric)

I needed to hear that. Oddly enough, I feel like I struggle with shallow work sometimes too, because I now know that my phone has to be in another room, etc. when I do deep work, but, when I’m doing shallow work I tend to let myself check my email several times and so on. So I’m going to play with the idea of making my shallow work not so shallow! And I’m going to get the book, obviously.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:16 "Deep *Work," yazarı Cal Newport, derin çalışmanın özünü anlatıyor. Kitap okuma, üretken meditasyon ve strateji oyunları gibi aktivitelerle zihinsel konsantrasyonunuzu geliştirebilirsiniz.* Made with HARPA AI

this was a long video to say, "if you want to actually be productive or learn, schedule time for the task that is completely distraction free. completely. it's largely difficult tasks that are skill or thought based work that require this. and it helps to be mindful of how much time am i spending on deep work and how much time i'm spending on shallow work, which is also needed as well (such as routine emails, taking care of invoices, and other logistical tasks)."

I posit that all deep work has flow, or at least most of it, but flow does not mean deep work. But maybe most things that put you into flow are good for training for deep work. Thoughts? Does he address this in the book?

Is this considered Deep Work? Hello, I’ve recently accepted my first salesman job and it is by far the hardest thing that I have ever done in my entire life. I’m really struggling with understanding the process completely and producing better results because of it. Normally when a challenge presents itself at work I can conquer it but with this salesman job I can’t. Everyday when I’m at work I try extremely hard to produce flawless results, and when I don’t I try even harder to produce those results. When that doesn’t work I try even harder than that, finally when all of my strength is gone and nothing works I still try even harder and I finally get that flawless result that I worked for. I’ve applied this tactic to all of my past jobs that came with difficult task and it had always worked. Now with this new salesman job I’ve done that I’ve applied this same tactic but it’s not working at all.

great content. Away from the clickbait stream Cal videos do not get the attention of the masses, however his quality content helps each person that is willing to learn from his deep knowledge. Cal knows the real deal, he creates value and one can identify that, so he gives trustworthy tools. I also bet Cal leaves with no remorse for the content he creates, in contrast to all the crap-"creators" whose only motivation is to persuade you to drip your money. This guy is a gem! and he also sets EXAMPLE.

One thing I struggle with is the chicken-egg advice of "get better at focusing by focusing". I find it hard to stay away from distractions, and the solution is to simply do it?
@ambinintsoahasina12 күн бұрын
I don't know if there is a one-size fit all way to do it but you can try different methods, separately or combined and figure out what works for you. The basics are: - pre-performance rituals - keeping phone away - letting yourself get bored and deprived of distraction until you do what you ought to do. - noting down any thoughts coming to you during the session. - keep a 30 (or 20) minutes timer and devout in at least do it during this time range (it's about building momentum) - listening to soft music or white noise to keep your mind from wondering too much. Personally, I use the last one but maybe your thing is a combination of 2 or 3,or none of these but something else. It's a trial and error until you find THE one.
