One criticism has been met! Core now has a way of monetising games! Edit: At some point, I said that Lua is not a Turing complete language. It is! This is why you always double-check your sources. That doesn't stop it being a terrible language though.

I'm ngl, I feel a little mislead by all of the ads that KZbinrs are doing. They keep promoting this as a game-dev tool kit but it's hardly that. You can't export your projects, and honestly I think that's a good thing. The style is way too similar to Fortnite, the video literally recognises this game as Fortnite. If they were to allow you to make executables then I feel like steam greenlight and android play store would be drowned in Fortnite BR copies made by 12 year olds.
@Chadderbox3 жыл бұрын
I wasn't sponsored in any way to make this video, and I completely agree. I think it is more targeted at the kids who look at these videos and want to do it themselves but in an easier way. Edit: but what you said about flooding the stores with rip-offs, I think either way this is going to happen. Instead of this they might just pick up AppGameKit and make something terrible, but AppGameKit does allow uploading and compiling to an exe, yet I don't see too many of these on the stores.
@PonzWasTaken3 жыл бұрын
@@Chadderbox With things like AppGameKit, it's pretty much all code. You have to learn the language before getting into it, especially with 3D. Core just gives you everything. 3/4 of the games I joined on Core yesterday had no objective, no motive and were incredibly boring. It's a fantastic tool for people who are serious about developing games on the platform, but the way it's being marketed (Fortnite-esque style) is like a magnet for kids wanting to make their own Fortnite spin offs. It would be really cool to see some kind of regulation involved in the game, I know that kind of goes against the whole marketing strategy they're going for with "Anyone can make a game" but their platform is going to get a bad reputation for how powerful it is since it just allows kids to drag in their pre-made fortnite assets and publish. Very similar to how Apple users view Android, they think it's a terrible platform because of all the cookie cutter companies making cheap, stock phones but in reality it's a great platform.
@Chadderbox3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, AppGameKit was an example but there are plenty others. I agree with you here, but ultimately it is just going to descend into low quality ripoffs. Maybe some high quality stuff will emerge like on Roblox (well, not high quality but you know what I mean).

It looks very promising, but right notes I can’t bring myself to ditch Unreal Engine. Biggest problems I see right now (and I’m sure this will change with time) but for the time being: 1) small community and somewhat worthless tutorial videos. I’ve tried watching a dozen different videos just to see what Core offers and the tutorials are usually someone hosting another developer and asking them questions, and their answers are usually horrible. Plus, they just talk about hire to duplicate and find objects. Seems very difficult; right now, to actually find tutorials in creating custom events and such. 2) The inability to import custom content. This is really the biggest one for me. I love to create my own assets and bring them into an engine. Core isn’t offering this right, and it seems almost pointless to try looking for tutorials on how to create custom content for use in your own Core project (similar to point 1). If you guys made it so we could create our own content or characters, that would be a game changer. If there is a way, then I’m not finding it at all because of the lack of tutorial content. 3) As far as I can tell ( and I could be wrong here) there didn’t seem to be much of a way to change a lot of the things. I’ve only seen videos where a terrain designed guy said he needed to do some scripting to change something… and then he never did it. Seems like an awful amount of headache trying to search for hard to find tutorials, for an engine that pretty much keeps you limited to its small base of content, like characters and layouts. I’m sure this will change with time. I think Core is doing a great job. Maybe try to get the community to do a lot more tutorials and add the ability to import our own content. At least show us how we can create brand new stuff.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude at all in this next sentence(--edit mid way through writing this, did not realize it was gonna be this long--), but; Roblox is NOT a game, as 8 years of playing Roblox, I become very triggered when A: people call Roblox a game, and B: people call Roblox a Lego game. Roblox is a website. And not many people know this but, Roblox was made before Minecraft. Yeah, this is irrelevant, but I felt people needed to know this. To go in depth a little on what I know, Roblox started development in 2004, and was called DynaBlocks. Then 2 years later, it was the first ever release of 'Roblox', and the reason they changed the name from DynaBlocks, to Roblox. Is because people can remember Roblox much better then DynaBlocks. And onto the Minecraft release, it was released and published in 2009. That's a whole 3 years later, I don't really know much on the Minecraft topic, which I will be looking into as of now, when I'm done writing this whole thing, lol. Thanks to anyone who reads this, especially you ChadderBox. I'm just becoming tired of people calling Roblox a game, and then sick of people calling it a Lego game, it's not. And again, I am not meaning to be rude with this whole nonsense. The only way I'm able to tell I'm tired, if I type like this, I should definitely go to sleep soon. (11:33 PM) On the good side, I'm super excited to try this out, can't wait for it to get popular. Hope it stays in Open Alpha for quite some time, as my current PC can't handle it. Will get my gaming PC back soon. It's being repaired. It looks amazing, I could care less that it looks like Fortnite, everyone on Roblox that I know of, said and hated Rthro when it came out, or just hated the idea of it. But after a few months, everyone liked it, or could care less since it was a permanent feature. I can't wait for Avatar Customization if it comes out, as I will be looking into this Platform way more. I'm with this 100%!! I'm just gonna post this comment and quit typing, I could literally go on for a half an hour, an hour. I mean, I've put about 15 to 20 minutes into this. Yeah, a suprising lack of depth is a good way to put it. I tried out the shooters and they were so full of bugs they were unplayable. How do I find dev made games? Edit... so I kept watching and you're also right about it not running well. I still have a 1070ti, and not only did it not look great, but my card got hot quickly.

Yeah, I wish I was using RTSS at the time instead of Fraps, because I am not sure if it is GPU or CPU limited. I'd reckon it might be GPU considering all of the weird effects.

So here is my final standpoint on this game, it’s like a much simpler and marketable roblox, which is just simply worse than the roblox engine in so many ways. Roblox despite its blocky style is still a much more powerful tool, yet takes much more effort and learning to use well. I imagine most people will start on core, then move to roblox.
@Chadderbox4 жыл бұрын
I'd argue the other way round, to be honest.

Chadderbox I mean, you couldn’t make after the flash, bloxburg, jailbreak, and a whole lot of other games in core.

I don't know what you are on about, but I assure you, you could make a variation of almost any game on Roblox in core.

Chadderbox why don’t you take a look at after the flash and tell me you could make it on core with the same amount of detail.

The people who made core also made Fortnite. That's why the graphics are similar.

You have to remeber that its 13+
@Chadderbox4 жыл бұрын
Fortnite is rated 12 and there is still loads of kids on it, and they still market to children under the age of 12. The guidelines do not need to be stuck to, they are just advice to say who should be playing it. It isn't like KZbin where you get sued if you market towards people under the intended age rating of the platoform.

If an "engine" is marketed as "easy", and "no experience needed" and such things you know it will attract lazy people with no skill. So obviously most "games" made with core will suck ass.

The unreal engine is capable of *far* more than the fortnite style. They chose to go with that style because they knew it was going to attract all the fortnite kids to use it. I pray they don't allow you to create executables of your games, if they do the market is going to be flooded with Fortnite BR clones.

Think of it like Roblox. You can play games and make them.

I have tried Core Game Engine, and I have noticed 2 shortcomings with this engine: 1- You can't export your game nor can you save it as a standalone .exe file for others to play. 2- You can't import assets nor can you create your own assets. The engine may be a little easier than some others, but with these 2 shortcomings. it is totally useless. What is the purpose of creating a game with Core if you can't save it out for others to play? They would have to install the game engine to even be able to play any game created in it. Again a totally useless game engine.
@powerzox83264 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's not an engine it's a stupid toy for children. I wouldn't even recommend it for learning since Unity is already so easy to learn.

the Fortnite skins ruin it. development doesn't interest the younger or more casual gamers. and for people like me that want to develop some stuff...I had an easy time modding command and conquer, making maps on warcraft3, age of empires, etc. I had to watch a KZbin video on even how to move the camera. it really for me comes down to the assets are weak. they should have went with more edgy or realistic in any way graphics because they advertise the unreal engine. and the menus and U.I. are just...hard to navigate I'd say. tbh I came in wanting to make a RTS...but it was pretty limited on that regard. then I wanted to make an RPG. but...Fortnite is gay...
