Corel has been the leader in graphic software since the early 90s and still has the edge over Adobe. All Corel lacks is the KZbin following that adobe has and this is mainly due to ignorance. I think most Adobe users would be surprised at the capabilities that Corel graphic suite has to offer if they took the time to actually learn how to use it. I will say though that Adobe are streets ahead of Corel or any other graphic software company when it comes to extorting money from it's users .

Yes, that's the interesting thing about Coreldraw. It does a little bit of everything. But, it is not great at anything. But the worst thing about it at this point is that if you have the current version of Coreldraw, files created by the next version will not open at all in the current version. It doesn't even attempt to open newer created files. So Corel is just really trying to force you to upgrade. If you compare with Adobe, I can use Illustrator or Photoshop from 10 years ago to open newer created files. They of course may not open perfectly. Some things may be missing, but if its a simple file then it will open perfectly. So if you are working with other companies, you are forced to upgrade every single year because your customers or your vendors are upgrading and you can no longer open their files. Its a terrible, greedy policy from Corel.

@@fmac.projetos Obviously, editing the file is the main reason for wanting to open it. What are you talking about???? If I receive a file from a client that is using a newer version of Illustrator, I can open that file with an older version of Illustrator, and of course edit it. With Corel you simply can not. I think it's less of a problem for you because nobody is passing around Coreldraw files anyway because there is no reasonable expectation that anybody is going to have Coreldraw. So you're trying to use eps, svg, and pdf. SVG is only good for extremely basic files as it can not contain all the elements that are necessary for print work. eps is likewise old and outdated, being replaced by pdf. And I've already mentioned that Corel's support of pdf, and eps is poor. There's no way around it.

Bingo. One major point for me too. But a really cool thing about Corel Draw is that they dumped the software Ventura Publisher, equipped Corel Draw with the same features and just made able to switch from looking like an illustration software to looking like a software in wich you put a complete publication together. I wonder why Adobe did not come up with that idea. There is so much of the original Adobe Illustrator code in Adobe Indesign that they have even copied some of its worst bugs into it!!! Bugs that have stayed unrepaired for decades. Bugs that can cost you a LOT of money. I started with Aldus Freehand, had at the same time Corel Draw 4 on my own computer, worked my way through Aldus Pagemaker until it became Adobe, Quark Xpress untill almost everybody worked with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. My first package design was made in Corel Draw 5. Many later in Illustrator.

@@Octopussyist "But a really cool thing about Corel Draw is that they dumped the software Ventura Publisher, equipped Corel Draw with the same features..." Whoaaa. Nobody gives away value for free. Ventura was once a $800.00 software. It's nonsensical to suggest that Corel added all of that functionality into Coreldraw essentially for free. "I wonder why Adobe did not come up with that idea." LOL Nobody has come up with the idea to give away value for free. I have to think that you have never used Ventura or Indesign if you're making a comment like that. "There is so much of the original Adobe Illustrator code in Adobe Indesign that they have even copied some of its worst bugs into it!!!" What's your point? Finding a bug in Illustrator is not an easy thing to do, yet I can't work for 5 minutes in Coreldraw without crashing it. I can give you a nice list of Coreldraw bugs right now. They've been in there for decades. I could never do that with Illustrator. "Bugs that have stayed unrepaired for decades. Bugs that can cost you a LOT of money." What are those bugs? I started my career at about the same time as you yet Illustrator has been incredible stable for me on both Mac and Windows over all of these years, while Coreldraw was the most unstable software I'd ever used other than Corel PhotoPaint which is even worse than Coreldraw. And you can verify that by reading through the Corel forums where the people who love it and use it are screaming about just how bad the software is.

One thing I would say is that, it's not just a matter of what can be done with tools, it's also about how quickly can those things be done when you're talking about production work. I can achieve a lot of things in various software, but not at the same speed. Here's a real world example. I worked for a garment printer where I used Adobe software while a co-worker used Coreldraw. Our screen maker can use eps, pdf, and interestingly, photoshop .psd files. We worked with color separated files using spot colors and pantone colors. Here's the thing. Coreldraw can create a pdf file and an eps file, but any file created in Photoshop is garbled mess at the rip. So my co-worker would take a purely vector file, convert it to a series of separate raster images, then send those files to the rip as a series of separate files. A 10 color design means 10 separate images. Each image is the size of one composite image. You can see how this is already a mess. The guy running the output would receive this package of images, then he would have to use his imagination when trying to press check them to see if things are correct. OK, from Illustrator, or from Photoshop, I could obviously send that same "art" to the rip as a single composite file. It's of course easy to press check because it's just one file. It gets worse. We often needed to edit the file, or to resize it, etc. So my co-worker would take all of those 10 files, recompile them back in Coreldraw, then resize, then separate them all again, and so on. And the interesting is that Photoshop is so powerful that I could take all of those separate files and batch recompile them back into a single file in 20 seconds. Corel had no such capability. So it time lost at every stage with Coreldraw. So, it was certainly possible to do the work, but not at nearly the same speed. And I'm sure that there are tons of examples like this which are in favor of Coreldraw. I think Coreldraw is definitely the right choice for sign making workflow and other things too.

@fmac.projetos Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to inform you but your description is invalid because the RIP software has nothing to do with the productivity of the design software. in this case the productivity of the work was limited because the RIP software does not support Corel files, and there are RIP software that do not support Adobe files.
@KuttyJoe Жыл бұрын
@@fmac.projetos Those rip systems don't support properly created eps or pdf files produced by Coreldraw. That's the point. So if you're not working with rip systems, then you won't need to worry about any of that. The productivity is diminished because Coreldraw is producing broken pdf and eps files while claiming to "support" eps and pdf formats. The rips also do not support Adobe AI, but they do support pdf and eps. All of them. But, the software has to be able to make those formats properly. Coreldraw can not.
@fmac.projetos Жыл бұрын
@@KuttyJoe As I mentioned in my other comment, the import made by Adobe Illustrator of EPS files that were produced properly in Corel Draw will always be imported as a failed file at the same time that other EPS readers on the market do not find these reading failures in the EPS file CorelDraw. RIP production made within the Adobe tool will always fail if the file has made in Corel tools as Adobe illustrator and RIP software does not support Corel EPS files. Following the subject of the video, productivity in Corel Draw is better than in illustrator, any impediment to production external to the software is not exactly associated with its productivity, but rather a monopoly/boycott/lack of investment by external software companies.

Agree! My first graphics design program (other than CasMate/Inspire/Flexisign) was Corel. I've been using it since version 3 and feel much more at home with it for that reason than I do with Illustrator, which I also use. Corel, for me is plain comfortable to use. There are so many tools, but they are sometimes difficult to find in Illustrator. Also, it seems easier, when faced with a unique design requirement, to just "figure it out" in Corel. In illustrator I have to read the manual or surf the forums. Therefore, given a choice between Illustrator or Corel for a project, I'll pick Corel most of the time, even if I have bear an inconvenience here and there. I get the job done faster and better. I also like how Flexi sign has strikingly similar look, feel and interface as CorelDraw. Photoshop however beats Corel's bitmap editor so soundly, Photoshop is my only bitmap editor.

i am also a CorelDraw user from day ONE; I have attended Corel conferences on the west coast back when they held them- great groups of professionals there, for sure!!! I also got the very first version of Adobe Illustrator as competitive upgrade back when they had split screen for drawing and viewing (yuck). I was very frustrated back then when print shops and others would only accept Mac Illustrator files (double yuck). At that time, I just felt like the Mac designers were just a snotty bunch! I insisted my local Mac only print and prepress shops to get PCs as there were more business using PCs than Mac and if they wanted my company's business, they will just have to learn to be able to read my files; I was just very tired of converting my DRW files to bad AI files, EPS or dumb TIF for them use. In the end, slowly but surely, PC versions of graphic software started to catch up with Mac and I was simply ecstatic when cross platforms compatibility became a norm. Personally, I still preferred CorelDraw for many of the reason you and other users have mentioned. i really, really do loved being able to reassign hotkeys to single keys; I simply never care to do multi-finger dances of CTL/ALT on my keyboard to enable some functions. I also loved the insane zoom in level of Corel too; finally, i still find it kind of hard to click on the exact curve handle point on Adobe illustrator some times, especially when they were close by- the node control and manipulation in Corel were simply much more comfortable and user friendly to work with. So, in closing, yes, I use BOTH pieces of software for my work too and I would like to consider myself an experience user as I had over two decades of computer graphic designs under my belt; I never got tired of feeling I was being pay to play and draw on computer all day! 🙂 You folks out there, just keep at it and keep creating!

Corel is a technical drawing software. If you want to draw an arc of a circle under an angle of 13.25 degrees, you will be able to do it in two movements. Also, working with nodes is far more refined. With Corel you can make any drawing that requires precise and multiple dimensions. I confirm, it's harder on the Mac, but you can draw anything. Illustrator is exactly what the name says: for illustrations. So it makes better gradients.

In my 7 years as a graphic designer, I've used both Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW. Adobe is big on marketing, but Corel isn't, so many people think Adobe is way better. But once you get to know both, you realize they're pretty similar. I prefer CorelDRAW because Illustrator can be lazy about making its tools easy to use. They often add fancy new versions of the same old features instead of improving what's already there. Sure, Illustrator has some fancy stuff, but most people never use it. Both have their good and bad points. I've seen videos where people who only know Adobe say it's the best, but that's not true. The truth is, they're both just okay. I get frustrated with both Corel and Illustrator. Sometimes I wonder why they don't copy each other's good ideas. But I'm not a software expert, so I can't say. What matters most is knowing shortcuts and getting your work done fast. Newbies might use the mouse a lot, but pros use shortcuts to speed things up. People argue a lot about which software is better, but it's not worth it. Just pick one and stick with it. I wasted time switching between them before I realized it didn't matter. Just get good at one and show off your skills with your work.

Great video.Here's a thought I have.. how do you think Artificial Intelligence Art such as NighCafe, DALL-E 2, Midjourney etc will impact Corel / Adobe .. do they need to re-think their approach.. do they need to include Ai into their computing core.. how will Artificial Intelligence compare to a static piece of software that does not evolve.. and by the same token.. will Adobe Ai play along with the name Ai somehow and become it? and now my personal experience.. I was expecting, as most people say that Adobe Ai is better than Corel but in reality, it is not. I'll tell you my experience which resonates with most of others' here. I was introduced to Ai through School when taking Design courses in College. I didn't hear about Corel except in the odd occasion and they UI looked so bad and simple that I assumed it was a downgraded version of Ai. When I started taking Graphic design we mainly used Ai and Photoshop.. To be honest, after doing lots of assignments I started to like Ai and specially Ps (photoshop) and as you mentioned, Ai and Ps have lots of advanced features, even 3D and complex things , but it comes down to the type of designs. We were learning the basics and almost never I dealt with the advanced features..Same happened when I took Industrial Design, but at the point, I was using Ps more and more as the nature of our course was mainly 3D renderings from SolidWorks and we had to work on the background using tools like Ps and sometimes Ai. years passed and then I came to my present job as Industrial sign and graphic designer for Automotive. They don't use Ai here, they used another 3rd party application. One day the Laser broke down and I started looking for compatible software. it turned out that Corel had this CorelDraw software with a trial and there were lots of tutorials online..I installed it and then bought the subscription. The learning of it wasn't that bad and I think I like it better than Ai now. Even, I use it to do all kinds of designs, to convert files, to clean up pictures, to measure stuff at the shop and so on, but what I really like is the possibility of working with VBA macros. We purchased a custom macro for serialization and repetitive work for plates, lamacoids and those sort of jobs. It works great! It almost never bugs up, it's super fast, easy to use and I remember back in College, sometimes Ai would crash down and I would lose all my work. I have thought of using Ai to see what's the difference now and to compare it to Corel. but by far, I feel that I can accomplish a lot of my work and stayed focus using Corel. I don't need any of the advanced features of Ai, not to mention that my company would not pay the high price of Adobe suite. You can pay for Corel and it's yours or you can pay a yearly subscription. ~Mario. Toronto, Canada. Cheers!

easy question, how you print vouchers with running numbers auto generated without to fill in 1 by 1......maybe from 1 or 1000......can adobe do it?
@Octopussyist Жыл бұрын
They both can. The easiest way, though, is that you have text frames that are linked to one another, for the running numbers. Then you generate your running numbers in an Excel file, export them as .txt with all the numbers line by line. Then you just copy-paste them into your linked textframes and you have as many pages with as many tickets or coupons on each page ready to print. However - the clever way to do it is to generate your numbers so that you have several columns in you Excel file: Like 000001 to 000100 in the first one second column 000101 to 000200 in the second, and so on: Because then you don't have the consecutive numbers on the same page in your Corel file - you ahve first ticket on page one 000001, second ticket 000200 and so on. You export the Excel file as text and 000001 will be in the same text line as 000101 etc. So you have 100 pages with tickets, you fill in the text, it fills the linked text frames on say 100 pages where you may have, say 3 columns with each 10 tickets. You send the file to you Xerox or whatever you use, print the 100 pages, cut them and you have 30 stacks of tickets - 3000 tickets - with consecutive numbers. Or whatever quantity you need and whatever the size might be. The cool thing is that numbers don't even need to be black. The designer can chose any colour the printer can print. Even negative with an image as background. That simple.

So true. I started on Designer but have to use Illustrator & Corel sometimes. I don't understand how the latter two can make doing very simple things so difficult. I get that they are more powerful in some ways but they could both learn from Serif.

Great video lots of respect! Its just that in my opinion some things are simply a myth. To me CorelDraw handles colors perfectly well and maybe even better then Ai. It is just not clearly differentiated RGB and CMYK so it can be easily mixed up, but once you master to differentiate these two you realize the colors are perfect, and I'm working with professional offset/flexo printing for 10 years. I just use web coated swop profile, same as Ai, always turn on proof colors and for web graphics I use RGB only. Second myth is that it is not compatible with Photoshop which I also find that Corel is even better compatible to PSD than Ai. It can perfectly import PSD file and when you ungroup you get all the layers. You use objects that are same as layers, export to photoshop, you get the perfect output with separated layers. Corel has capability like Ai + InDesign all in one which to me is one of biggest advantage. There are a lots of advantages in both apps, so I like the last part which refers that they are not against each other but rather you should use both for best performance.

Corel for Signage and large format printing, illustrator for magazines and more effects. Corel is cheaper and easier. Although Photoshop is king in imaging. But signage does not need advanced software.

I prefer Adobe. Ive use Coreldraw its not for me. But no hate because it always come down to result. If it looks good commercially then be my guest to use any design tool available to get the desired result.
@KuttyJoe2 жыл бұрын
What matters is result, and also the time it takes to get the result. That 2nd part might be even more important than the first. For example, if the price of oil falls too low, oil companies will leave it in the ground. Likewise, if I can't make enough money off a design project, I won't do the project.

In 2022 comparing CoralDraw with illustrator is really silly thing to do. But still relevant for new comers to be aware of the history when they were competitors. My first vector tool in childhood was CD but now I can't even remember how it used to look. It's not true. To get in professional world no one must know Coral anymore. Only Adobe Suite is enough. And Coral fell far behind Adobe that it should not be compared at all. Rather Coral should be compared with some free open source vector tools instead 🙄

this is just thing of heavy commercial machine of giants like adobe, autodesk etc with billions of revenue and their agenda to keep their monopoly in business (which clearly is not a good thing, since they stop trying with and just keep collecting monthly/yearly rents). in reality, this things are build on same basic principals and tools, which still stands today (in exception of ai "technologies", that in simple terms just steals artwork on web). corel applications just not having that big pool of commercial support, nothing else, they can refined their software with that budget much better, but you can design graphics etc with corel just as good ad illustrator or something else (affinity apps etc). i only would say it is not that god for heavy task, as graphic design of books over50 pages etc (but on the other hand, adobe also have different program for that). i done that before, and it can be heavy on computers. i remember how quark handle things (basically proxies) many years before on way less capable machines.
@gbxgbxgbx8 ай бұрын
You've omitted the single most important difference between the programs/suites - the PRICE! Where Adobe's monopoly outlook makes them rise the price, and the fact that you can't buy it permanently, only subscribe yearly. Where with Corel you pay only once. BIG F DIFFERENCE. Actually the real competitor for Adobe would be Affinity - only Adobe being super smart prohibited the Ai format, making it impossible for Affinity Designer to export to Ai fomrat. Too bad. :(

I must try to use Coreldraw to see. I never use, I'm married to AI for more 4 years. It's time for me to see the difference practically.

I've been using Corel Draw since version 1.0. So I'm pretty addicted to it. But I'm not addicted enough to pay their over the top subscription fees. They can bugger off, I'm moving to Inkscape (I hope). In fact I'm moving to Linux period. This subscription software that dies if you don't pay up each year is clearly useless for anything archival. They way Corel has sold itself X3 and this model that is so over priced just don't make compatible sense. For the same price as Corel on a true monthly subscription, not Corel's yearly fee, you can have Adobe everything. Corel is worth $150-200AU not $600 every year. I think we should all be having a solid look at open source software and Linux. Inkscape is built around SVG. Illustrator is build around PS format. And Corel is build around what? SVG graphics done in Inkscape are perfect. In Draw they are too often a screw up and have been for years. And Postscript is an Adobe invention to manage printers. I doubt that Illustrator would be worse at SVG than Draw but it may well be poorer. Both Draw and Illustrator are converting from the in program code to SVG. It's not the same as working in SVG from the getgo. SVG is open source and very well documented. SVG will be the default for web graphics. It's not fun moving from a program that you have used since 1.0 and know inside out. What I think is this, the new owners of Corel are going to screw it up! They are a US pension fund seeking maximum returns. Forum activity for Draw appears to be down by more than 90%. Many of the best well known faces in that forum have disappeared. And it is clear as day they don't understand how Draw got its marketshare; cheap non compulsory upgrades and pirate software that was passed about on disks initially that got people interested and lead to them paying for software. Now we have a 15 day trial, Corel only have 15 day trial for Draw, everything else is 30 days. This is insane... a 15 day window to hook a new user to a pricing model that is perhaps X4 what you pay Adobe (or same as Adobe for 1/4 of the software), it's a model that users reject and I'd say threatens the viability of continuing with a decent level of software development. Anything open source will definitely be slower to adopt AI features. I've asked the question of GIMP developers and they are not going to implement any AI functions until the air has cleared about copyright and the various AI companies scrapping the web. Pytorch is likely not in that class. But the AI image generation most certainly is a copyright concern. Will Inkscape make the grade for me... don't know yet. What I do know is that Inkscape will be there forever and that the development is driven by functions that make it better and not by the marketing department. I'm betting that in the longer term, the main difference between Inkscape and Draw/Illustrator with be cost and not features or abilities. And Inkscape files will be able to be opened by Inkscape forever without a fee. I hope this helps.

What features? In Adobe Illustrator? Completly biased review to promo this poorly designed, UX horror and poorly stiched together heap of sadness called Adobe Creative Cloud. I´ve used both for years for different clients, but Adobe is just so bad, bulky, clumsy and of poor quality that Corel just wins hands down on anything but sound or video editing. I´m not even diging into engraving and embrodjery here. If there are good products in Adobe, then Photohop, InDesign, Premiere Pro could be considered. All the rest is vaporware that duplicate others if not to say - rubbsh.

Agree , Illustrator is way too overrated It's a poorly made unintuitive mess that won't allow you to make a simple layer mask without doing some frustrating useless steps that don't make any sense , And good luck if you want to edit it It's that bad.
