That standing O was well deserved. The audience members in the first row, left, got an intimate performance, sitting so near to that exceptional violin playing.

I consider Corelli's version on the theme of La Follia a masterpiece, where, in my opinion, it is not possible nor appropriate to add anything else. However, the transcription for Concerto Grosso by his talented pupil Geminiani, makes it equally beautiful, interesting and exciting and the greatness of this ensemble brings out all these feelings.

Gemeneniani’s set of Concerto Grossi are one of the underrated masterpieces of the Baroque era, equal to the Corelli’s op. 3 and 6 and that magnificent set by Handel.

@@VoicesofMusic Well, well, but the truth is that the Folia was composed by Corelli in the 1700s and Handel's Sarabande was composed between 1703 and 1706. The similarity is striking and may allow me to think that the Sarabande (by B. Lyndon) is based absolutely in the Folia. Thank you.

I'm confused. Thought I loved Apollo's Fire's La Folia by Vivaldi; now I came across this piece. Similar, at least the opening is similar.....
@VoicesofMusic4 ай бұрын
There are lots of versions by different composers, this is Geminiani's arrangement of Corelli's version, with some influence by Vivaldi. The Geminiani is the most complex, but they are all good.
@halsawyer993020 күн бұрын
Yes, the original composer of La Folia is unknown. It is a standard 16-bar chord progression that just appeared around 1650 in either Spain or Portugal. In the first 100 years of la Folia's existence, about 90 composers wrote versions of it. In the last 24 years, since 2000, over 200 composers have written versions of La Folia.

Only three men in the world can play without an expressive conductor. All woman can.😆
@Janaceks_Dad6 ай бұрын
The real work of a conductor happens during rehearsal, it’s irritating to watch conductors like Simon Rattle, and others (including Bernstein) just stand there and emote the music in front of the orchestra, looking ridiculous.
@Moonlight_Pierrot4 ай бұрын
@@Janaceks_Dad wtf are you even saying, good conductor dictates all the emotions to the orchestra, that's the only way for 50-100 people to play REALLY togethter on the deepest level. Conductor is not a metronome in case if you wondering. Baroque music is simple, and requires much smaller ensembles to be played
