I'm so glad people are making decisions that are better for them and their families rather than staying for the prestige of a title that people will forget in years to come
@redsnflr
@redsnflr Жыл бұрын
you often hear fighters who lose their UFC belt(applicable to other combat world champs) explain the relief they had of losing the title, Dominick Cruz, Rashad Evans & Kamaru Usman are examples; they almost have to play a persona along with the pressure of always being hunted by contenders, not that they'd ever want to not win a title because that'd be the worst, but once they do win the belt it becomes not as glamorous and fulfilling as it seemed when they were hungry contenders. Belts are nice but the money & heads you've defeated(or even lost to but against a great opponent in a close fight) are what pushes your legacy for you and your family.
@Lootroq
@Lootroq Жыл бұрын
@@redsnflr That's the one thing about Kamaru that I love: he still feels like he's the hunter. When he steps in that octagon no one has the belt. That pressure I think came from all of the legacy talks, especially considering the fact that he avoids the fool's gold of focusing on the legacy aspect as opposed to hunting #1 contender after #1 contender. This last fight was the first time I ever heard him truly entertain the notion that legacy was becoming a factor, but admittedly that didn't change the fight or how he fights which is great, just weird timing. Whenever I hear someone start talking about legacy I get worried

That was so good. It took Luke (and, to a lesser extent BC) to get a good vibe going to actually let Corey flow and tell us about himself. It's a shame promoters don't seem capable of getting this side of the fighters out there, i don't see how it wouldn't be beneficial. I'm going to look for Corey's hunting show now.

I became a fan of Corey when he stopped Johnny Walker in his tracks and then got on the mic and went hard on those who predicted that he'd get run over. I couldn't believe so many people were just willing to overlook everything Corey had done up to that point, especially considering that Walker had and still has some glaring issues. The Bader win put everybody on notice that he was better than they thought he was. I pretty much expected him to surprise Nemkov as long as he didn't get caught early. After hearing all this I'm an even bigger fan. Such a genuine dude, and tougher than boot leather. I'm so glad he's now in a good place financially. His dream is the same as mine..I. buy a shitload of land lol. Godspeed on the next one Corey, you got this brother
