My mom used to play this song with me and she told me that 21 years ago when I was being born she almost didn't make it, last night she passed away in the hospital. Rest in Peace to the greatest mother in the world, I can't wait to see you soon. 1/18/76 - 8/18/18

Reading some of the stories and loving each of them, dark or light-hearted. This song has so much meaning to myself too. It was 1995, I was married say, 4 years, and at that point I had been in the Army three years. Still a young Sergeant. My wife was pregnant. Seriously pregnant -- and had been dealing with Braxton-hick contractions previously. Two hospital visits later, still no baby. On June 5th 1995, my wife and I walked around our block trying to motivate our newborn to make a move. I was in bed after the walk watching some MTV and this song came on -- first time I saw the video though heard it on the radio. Now, I'm a nurse so "lightening crashes" to me has several meaning. A few weeks earlier, at the end of her third trimester, the fetus dropped into the pelvis. This is called "lightening". We delivered our son two hours later on that day in June. Call it whatever you want, the timing and more importantly, the beautiful memory burned into my brain and heart. It created such a grand and beautiful memory. I love you kid.

@@dusk327it’s about the circle of life. Ed from live wrote it about the friend who died. He later commented about how everyday people die and new ones are born. Which he said was the transference of life. He is a fairly religious guy and it can be seen in many of his songs.

also, "lightening" is a medical lingo defining the fetus dropping into the pelvis in the third trimester. If you're interested, I posted what this song meant to me as well but it'll probably be buried when, and if u see this. I'll cliff note it though, I watched this video the very day my son was born in 95. It just came on while watching MTV. My wife went into labor at the very same time on Jun 5th 1995. It was the craziest coincidence and beautifully framed in my memory. @@dusk327

Yet I do know this, his singing has never been better. Love him or hate him, doesn't matter to me. I've seen Corey in a HIM beanie and shortly after, performing with Apocalyptica - just never ends with this dear man. About to read his books now, he has so intrigued me.

You sir need to do some more research on Corey.. He's one of the most versatile singers in the entire rock genre, it's not all hardcore screaming like he does in slipknot. Dude can sing.

extremlybored45 "screamo" is an insulting word to use to describe a metal singer, but I suppose you haven't liked the music long enough to learn that.

Does no one in the audience know this amazingly beautiful iconic song??? When they showed them they were all just standing there looking lost and confused. Probably resembles me if I tried to sing along to a hymn at church. Minus no one in this audience appeared to be on fire.... Would definitely have been way better without the backup singer, wtf????

the left handed guitar player is playing a right handed guitar upside down that is strung upside down that is insane if you are a guitar player you will understand Wow just revisited this a year later can't believe it started such a discussion. Want to clarify to some of you "I'm lefty and play right handed" also for all of you Hendrix and Cobain did the same thing no they didn't this is STRUNG upside down here is proof kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmiTYqOXgKqAjtU Also go to 1:50 in video low E on bottom high e on the top if that doesn't impress you I don't care it's my opinion that it is interesting see ya and if you left a positive comment thank you you're the shit!

Jimi played a right-handed guitar upside down but strung backwards. So high E was closest to the floor. BTW, Check out Doyle Bramhall II for more upside-down strung awesomeness.
