could you take a picture of underneath the grow tray as that obviously has holes, but how big are those holes, how often and are they made for the roots or just for the water to permiate the soil via osmosis? A picture of the underneath would be amazing. My trays dont have holes, so I have had to drill some, but not sure if thats the best route to go, or simply sticking a needle in it multiple times throughout would be best. Thanks

Hi Corey! I know this is an old video but I’m considering building a shed with maximum capacity for a 40 tray setup. Do you feel like this is a sufficient size? Also, is it difficult to regulate temperature and humidity inside of a shed? I could put a dehumidifier in there and maybe an AC. Best, Derek
@CoreysCave4 жыл бұрын
Drone Zone 40 trays is plenty to start with. It might be easier to control the humidity and temp in a shed than in a greenhouse

the reason for the die off is due to overwatering. it's called Damping Off or that's what i call it. it will spread if you don't do as you suggested by removing the affected area.

Thanks for the reply. The video was “How I water my micro greens”. When you were watering it looked like you had about 4 inches of extra space in the front of the bottom tray. I really appreciate your vids.

Just starting with Micro and looking for the best way to irrigate them. This seems pretty interesting cause leaves are not involved and the plant takes the water needed from roots...just one doubt...isn't this dangerous for mold?
@CoreysCave5 жыл бұрын
iofaccioitubi Good airflow is important to avoid mold. I also plant less dense than others to allow good airflow through the tray of Microgreens. Using a light fluffy soil is also a big help.

Hello..Can u pls advise how long we need to do bottom watering..I mean timing and when the last watering need to be done before harvesting..Kindly Advise
@CoreysCave2 жыл бұрын
It’s really going to depend on your environmental conditions. For last watering I usually water the day before I harvest and not on the day of harvest. It’s different for different crops too, some only need water every other day or less while some my need it everyday and sometimes twice a day.

Great and helpful vids----still waiting for my first 'big' customer, but I do have an individual who is sold on the sun shoots now, so making a little progress! Hey Corey----something I've been wondering about bottom-watering: I've been doing that, going over the top of the ribs, but do you drain off the rest of the water that is down BETWEEN the ribs? To my mind, it seems like the water between the ribs is not going to be wicked up anyway, since it is BELOW the lowest part of the top tray and therefore, can't get 'wicked' up anyway. Hopefully, you know what I mean. I don't know, just wondering.

second question, how do you deal with Insurance/Inspection? Do the inspectors not care about the raw wood? Ours has to be painted. Preparation for sale, do you just cut weigh/bag or do you wash first ? Currently, I don't wash, but mark all products clearly to Wash Before Use, this is to avoid the need to setup an approved wash station.

Hey Corey, I want to quickly say thank you for your determination and hard work to share your knowledge and insights with us. I know you have created a few videos about dealing with sales/restaurants and costs, I watched them (thank you again) ... My question is... How many trays a week do you have to harvest to maintain your accounts and have it be a viable secondary or main source of income ? I am just curious what size orders restaurants and chefs would take a week or bi-weekly ? Just one of a thousand questions I will come up with as this progresses I'm sure. I just invested everything I had in savings into getting a room setup, equipment and seeds, this should be fun.. I should be planting my 1st crop mid-next week
@CoreysCave7 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thank you for watching, I hope I am able to help you out as much as possible. My microgreens business is strictly at a hobby level. I have a great full time job that I really don't have any interest in giving up. With that said though it is very possible to make a decent income at this if you are determined and work hard. I sell to restaurants, caterers and local stores.All of them vary week to week on what I sell, with the exception of one restaurant that takes exactly 1 pound of my mix every week. Some only want 4 -10 ounces a week. Currently I am growing somewhere around 30 trays a week and generate sales of ~$200. I hope this helps, please subscribe if you haven't already!

would you use a pump spray for above water? and how much water would you do for above watering?
@CoreysCave6 жыл бұрын
You can and I have, the issue was it took a long time to water as heavily as I like too and I had to refill the sprayer often. Its hard to say how much I water, I basically make sure I really soak the soil well for most crops. However something like Amaranth I try to keep the top layer of the soil semi dry.

I dont measure the seed for Beets, I just spread them out dry by hand. If I had to guess I would say 1.5 ounces per tray.
@ryanwillett7287 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I generally try to weigh each batch for consistency and planning. I'm looking at adding the beets and fennel to my offerings and am researching starting points for seeding.
@CoreysCave7 жыл бұрын
I have found the seed cost to production ratio to not be very favorable for beets, I do charge more for them but its not something I grow a lot of. People seem very happy with Red Garnet Amaranth as a substitute for beets.
@ryanwillett7287 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. $7 an ounce is a bit steep for the seed. Whats your average yeild weight on a 10x20 flat?

I average around 6 ounces per tray and I sell at $5 an ounce. I pay $2.72 an ounce for the seed at 4 ounces for $10.86, if I grew more I would buy it by the pound then it would be $1.84 an ounce.
