I have no desire to run a small business, but have recently started growing a lot of my own microgreens. Stumbled on this. Your presentation here in 18 minutes is more valuable than most Business administration undergrad degrees. Sometimes I wish I had the passion to upstream better food source supplies, but educating the customer seems almost harder than doing the sales. Anyhow, I enjoyed this.

Marketing / pricing and all that stuff- a nightmare- What I like about microgreen community is SHARING. Since Pepe and you are friends, I will mention him here also Curtis. I got encouraging messaging from Pepe and I was so pleased I left that on my top page to remind me how he set up his business and telling me that anything is possible. I like your idea as how to approach the stores/restaurants. Your video is comprehensive teaching. But best of all I am so grateful to microgreen community for sharing knowledge and encouraging people like me who are hesitant or have no confidence to start. thank you to you and all microgreen growing nuts- now I am joining the community!!!

Yep, great video, no hype and silly stuff. Refreshingly honest viewed from a guy that's doing it. As far as marketing I think you're doing it in a very smart way. Growing a business is also about relationships delivering on time, consistency and trust. The way people get to know you and want to buy from you has to be earned. Looks like you are building a very solid foundation for your business, congratulations.

Such great info being shared by all you microgreen gurus. This video is exceptionally informative about areas I know nothing about, marketing. I salute you coreyscave, urban farmer, donny greens, greenshine farmers, etc. The motto of the International Plant Propagation Society (IPPS) is "to seek and share" all information about growing and propagating plants. You and your other youtube micro men and women are following that motto beautifully.

$6/2oz in the UK is £4.75/57g. I currently sell my pea and sunflower at £2.50/100g retail and this is a relatively expensive price. So my 100g at your price / g would be £8.33!! For context you could buy 6 100g bags of salad mix for that. I know food is more expensive in the states but this seems very expensive still.
@CoreysCave
@CoreysCave 5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Myers Yes it’s expensive, but believe it or not it’s the going rate here, most other growers are at a similar price that I talk too.

Take it from someone who has been in the restaurant business for 16+ years, Go to restaurants around 10am or between 2pm and 4pm. Remember, Restaurant managers and chefs are extremely busy with about a hundred different things at the same time. And they have new issues being thrown at them constantly. Don't take it personally if you get blown off. Just come back and try at a better time.

Very informative video. First, Facebook is involved in a class action lawsuit due to misrepresentation, fake profiles, and fake statistical data. Also if you have a Facebook page or you post on your profile, Facebook manipulates the feed so that it forces you to buy ads. People have had their ad costs get out of control and went broke from it. The reason you have not had sales on your website is because you stated you don't want sales on your website. If someone orders a monthly amount and they know it takes 2 weeks before their first order comes in, they are willing to wait. Now with delivery, you can even partner with a delivery service. So your website needs to be redesigned and SEO friendly and TAKE ORDERS otherwise, it's like saying your car doesn't drive and it turns out you never put gas nor tires on it. I am a web developer and social media marketer but also have a business management background. Great video, but the whole website issue is misconceived. Let me know if you want me to help you with this. I will send you my web address. I don't want to spam your site without your permission.

Great stuff Corey. Love the real world examples, I learned a lot!I know it can cost money to host a website, especially if you have someone design it...probably not worth it. However, I never thought about using Facebook, that was key information. Also, Facebook ads is a great tip too!

A website is pretty cheap and you can design your own easily. However Facebook is free and easy!

I would suggest not having a label that so explicitly tries to take sales from your retailers that are supporting you and essential to you building your brand. You should always and forever respect your original retailers. Perhaps it's better to say on the label "Got an issue or question? Contact us...." It takes the pressure off the retailer to deal with issues, gets the customer in diret contact with you, and maybe they may buy direct, but your big dollars are most likely having a good retailer network so that you can focus on what you do and they can focus on selling what you do. I think a call out on the label or any other comms to the customer to "buy direct" is a big slap in the face to the retailer that has trialled your product in good faith and helped build your brand.

Its good when you live in a proper country, you can sell lots of things that you would not be able to sell in some other destinations...

@@ItalianTopo The amount of restaurants differ greatly, the prices of these products are a lot lower to the point where there is no gain growing and selling them. In fact I am starting to believe that these guys are actually promoting these lights and all the products for growing the plants and that is how they make their revenue rather than selling the plants itself..

If anyone doesn't have the time to go to farmers markets, there's a great app called CropSwap that's like the instacart for local produce. Really easy to use and helps connect you with other local growers!
