It's funny how this isn't even a hobby of mine - I watch your channel because I love your presentation and I like the tips for the modeling I might eventually do when I have the space. One of the best examples of a restored miniature car, mate. No apologies necessary. Beautiful. What a shame that the manufacturer wanted to cut costs with a cheap plastic interior, as if it would have been more difficult to make a normal plastic die cast interior.

Fantastic job in this restoration! (I happen to like all of your restorations, but don’t let that get to your head). My Mom says my Dad’s ‘57 Thunderbird is what caught her eye, and the rest is history. The ‘59 isn’t styled much different, but if my Mom saw this one it would bring a tear to her eye. You did a great job!

When I was a kid I had three Corgi's. A fire engine "snorkel", the James Bond Aston Martin DB5, and the Batmobile. The working features on all three were amazing. Corgi's were, and still are, my favorite die cast cars. All paid for by a paper route. Remember when kids them ?
@vincentsadan1938 Жыл бұрын
For the plastic models we use oxitol to strip paint. I suppose with die cast you can use more aggressive strip products.

The Ford Thunderbird was from the golden era of American auto design. This was a beautiful restoration, and I hope you can find a second one to do in teal. My Dad is a mechanic, and he had a Teal 1960 Thunderbird in his shop last summer. It was the oldest vehicle that he has had there, beating our 1961 Chevy Apache by a year.
@canuckyank825 жыл бұрын
I loved the real Chevy Apache. My dad's friend had one in mint or aquamarine.
@Evan_Moore615 жыл бұрын
Michael Chugg The Apache really changed the game in the pickup truck industry. The 1958 was the first to feature a flat “fleetside” bed, and the 1960 was the first pickup to have an independent front suspension setup, making it ride more like a car than a truck and reducing wear and tear on the vehicle and driver. Apaches don’t get enough credit in the automotive world, so that’s why I’m proud to keep one of them on the road. I love them too, they’re my favorite vehicle from the 1960’s.

That "Blue Stuff" kind of InstaMorph thermoplastic beads. You toss them in hot 140°F water till they turn clear and mold it whatever shape you want and when it turns white it's hardened/cooled. I never thought of using it as a mold, that's a really cool idea. Another great video as always, I love the finished product. It turned out beautiful.

Still....instead of that turntable , I think it would be great if you could place the cars on a moving belt in a diorama... Yup, takes a lotta time to create, but it would be outstanding to see your beautiful projects "moving" through a landscape instead of that dull turntable ( tho we did notice the 3D printed redline wheel ). Almost every modelrestorer uses a turntable, and especially you, sir, are outstanding in these videos. Never a dull moment.

The paint job came out great. It almost seems to have purplish tint but could be my screen. Molding the tires was a brilliant idea and looked as though they cast nicely. “Holy Messin’ With Resin, Batman! It almost looks like our rig!” It’s funny how, now that I am retired, I find myself researching items of my younger days....and have recently developed an interest in the 1960s George Barris cars....in particular, his Batmobile based on the concept Ford Futura. I never noticed the similarities between the Futura and this year’s Thunderbird! That black and red even smacks of Baris’.....uh, Batman’s car! And I don’t know what’s up with Robin.....but there is absolutely no way that I wouldn’t be taking that hot ride out on a Saturday night with Poison Ivy! As always....Bravo-Zulu on this 1:43 model. Hello there. The convertible version of this car had a diecast interior, the interior on your later version was vacuum formed that was state of the art at the time, until toy manufacturers started to produce modeled plastic version that we are more used to today. You've done an excellent restoration on this model. I did an original teal version of the model to which I added an interior that I found in my box of tat along with the Matchbox version which I painted gold with a silver roof, looks so much better than the original colours. Keep up the good work. Dinky were still using this form vacuum modeling right up to until the factory closed on the Bedford CF van, the Leyland coach and both the Routemaster and Atlantean double decker buses. Both the van and coach also had tin bases and I always thought these were a retrograde step backwards, the van in particular was rubbish.
