There is a train stop on the way from Cobh to Cork for the Fota Wildlife park. It's a great "zoo" with some unique animals and some of them (kangaroos, wallabies, lemurs) are allowed to roam free throughout the grounds. I'd definitely recommend spending time a the zoo as well as just in the town of Cobh if at port on a cruise because they are both interesting and beautiful places, and also because most people seem to go on tours of Blarney or visit Cork, so Cobh and the Fota Wildlife Park are less crowded. Cheers!

I wish I saw your video before going to Cork. I just came from my cruise and when we arrive in Cork, our friend wanted to see the black rock castle so we spent precious time there. We spent in Cobh just one hour and love it. The people are so welcoming and friendly.
@ThePortLowdown Жыл бұрын
Yeah, we really weren't into the castle. Hopefully, you had a good lunch? The food we had was pretty good! And yes, the people are awesome. We were all made to feel quite welcome!

Glad you enjoyed your short stay. There is a bus service from Cork railway station to the city centre (No.205). It departs from the opposite side of the Cork/Dublin railway line. (There is a tunnel beneath the line and an elevator for those who don't wish to use the steps)

Cork and Cobh very important harbor when Ireland colonized by the British. It is natural harbor the second deepest in the world ,Spike Island would’ve been a nice trip for you incredible history. Just so you know, Celtic is pronounced with a K sound. The C in the Irish language makes a hard K sound The reason being is in the Irish language, there is no ( j, k, q, v, w, x, y, z) in the alphabet Glad you enjoyed the trip. It’s beautiful that part of the country.

Thanks for the correction. I certainly want to return and check out Spike Island. I'm also curious about the area just beyond the Church overlooking Cobh. It's a lovely walking town!

The best time to visit Cohb, Kinsale or Cork is when Cruise ships are out to sea..
@ThePortLowdown Жыл бұрын
Ha! I DO wonder what staying in Cobh overnight when not cruising would be like. It's one place we would definitely consider doing a longer stay. We just don't have that option at the moment.

@@ThePortLowdownEnjoyed seeing my gaff on the film there and as you asked so nicely I have subscribed .By the way only the Scottish based football team is produced Sell Tick , every other pronunciation is Keltic and most Irish prefer to say Gaelic as it refers to Irish "Celts " and language

@@ThePortLowdown thank you so much. Is it busy in Cobh this time of year?
@ThePortLowdown8 ай бұрын
The town is small but gets busy in tourist season. Not too crowded when we were there and that was summer. I assume it would be fine during the warmer months.
