Blood Meal is a slow release nitrogen fertilizer. It releases the nitrogen within about 60 days or so. With that being said, apply a quick start fertilizer early along with the blood meal. Urea is a great source of quick start nitrogen. Great video

yellow leaves could be alot of things. If fertilizing doesnt fix it or not watering as much doesnt fix it might be a bacterial disease.you can fertilize with all purpose if you want just make sure the nitrogen is higher and when the silk forms use all purpose also. the plant will need phosphorus and potasium to grow the fruit.Next year i will put down nitrogen only before i plant my seeds then next two times i will use all purpose fertilizer.hope this helps and good luck

It will grow untill it runs out of nitrogen in the soil then it will start turning purple and yellow and stop growing tall.It will still tassel out but your cobs will not have any kernels on them and wont be big at all.Corn loves nitrogen and it usually needs 1 fertilization about 2 ft tall and that will take it own to the end.

I've always hit mine with 10-0-0 when they are about 8 inches high. When they get knee high, I put a generous amount of 34-0-0. Make sure you water immediately after applying, or apply before rain. Some people like to go lighter on the nitrogen but I prefer to go heavier. It will sometimes burn the base of the stalk but you will have extremely green corn that will produce full ears.

danieldefenseM4 - Using such high concentrations of N or any other fertilizer for that matter. I'm sorry to say, it's ridiculous, irresponsible and on top, a waste of money. That kind of attitude it's why people down the line complain about polluted aquifers, algae bursts, etc. and why land is destroyed at outrageous rates. The plants CAN'T handle such concentrations, reason why it burn... It's a simple way to leach undesired components to everybody else. Really stupid attitude. For pit sake people learn a tiny little bit about what you're doing, don't mess it to yourself and to all others. ;-)

,did you add any soil amendent. My dad hasnt planted anything in 40 years most likey but he was really into it all as a teen and young adult growing up. Our house doesnt seem to have a good of soil. I planted my garden 10 years ago and I took some classes and all but I mainly experiment now that Im out of school. Anyway we tried corn a few years ago but I planted it around 2015 and it blew over a little and it looked a bit like your first year because I really didnt anything. maybe 2 deformed cobs. However this year dad planted. He didnt use soil conditioner and I wish he had because I always use it. compost or peat moss or even manure but but lately with the shrub border I put miracle gro and some peat in the holes no manure maybe a bit a of compost in some but not needed. Anyway we are going to used that Bone Meal . It seems awesome! The stuff in the soil might not be as good but that fertilizer should definately help . He said he he will by some tomorrow. and a tiny square but we going to try it out. get that deep green color and the stalks not purple. So thanks alot! Im over here cracking up on how u came back in like hey after us the old corn lol

BTW, i mulched my corn with grass clippings because the weeds were getting crazy. I then surface fertilized with the blood meal you recommended because I didn't want to dig up the mulch. Do you think that is worth while or am i just wasting fertilizer? Thanks for info, great garden!

If you over N, you'll have a plant that will grow to the moon but produce hardly anything. The P and K given you production and root development respectivly. Love the folks from the South. Purple leaves are actually a sign of phosphorous deficiency, not nitrogen. Nitrogen deficiency is recognized by the yellowing of the first true leaves (older bottom leaves) because of its mobility in the plant. Don't forget to apply phosphorous at planting at a higher rate than nitrogen using something like a 5-10-30 fertilizer also known as a pop-up fertilizer.

Thanks for the great video! It's my second year, so I hope I get some fresh corn for the BBQ this year! Going to get some Blood Meal tomorrow, since the corn is only a few inches tall thus far, I'll be ready for it!
