I enjoy his way of speaking and how he approaches life, his attitude for justice and equality is something to be cherished.

@shakkkkkkka He's making a great point: unconditional love is just that, unconditional. Even if you have a critique for some people, you love and care for them. This is what drives Dr. West, I think. It's a good challenge to ask yourself who you don't love. And then work to love them.

@shabeki "It was not that Cornel West was inactive. He was active as a great showman on television, he was active in politics, he was active on the lucrative lecture circuit, and he was even active in entertainment, writing and performing rap music. He was also popular with students, as any professor who gives out lots of A's is likely to be."

Wow I knew he was intelligent but he has way more musical knowledge than I thought who would think he'd name drop Pearl Jam. His quotes on the death shudders and being for the weak were powerful

Intellectual Merits: Let's see, graduated with one of the highest honors at Harvard, P.H.d at Princeton, has taught at numerous Ivies and international schools, well recognized public intellectual, touring lecturer, prolific author/20 some odd published works, member of world's most prominent think tank, and 20 honorary degrees from manifold uni's. I think he's pretty fucking qualified.

I love to hear Dr. West speak. Although he is quite radical in some of his beliefs, I can agree to disagree with him respectfully. I think he's awesome and I admire his strength; However, because of his influence on the younger generation he could use a little more poise.

@shabeki questioning this mans education is unavoidable for any sane person... what is Cornell West's original insights on race? why is he a great thinker and not just one among many who experienced segregation and wants to capitalize on it?
@baroh241312 жыл бұрын
So you cannot tell me what you think the basis of his thinking is? or his intellectual merits? You talk alot but you say very little. Just like him. A lot of people like that. Especially people in the media industry. That may be why he is acknowledged.
@shabeki12 жыл бұрын
@baroh2413 You clearly don't understand American history. West was born and raised under a time of segregation in America. His views on race are far more insightful than you think, but only if you allow yourself to stop thinking that white people are perfect with no faults. I don't think that Harvard and Princeton are bastions of "white guilt." As far as I'm concerned, West has earned his degrees and his place among great thinkers. But questioning a black man's education isn't very original now

He talks of corporatism and free market capitalism as the cause of afro american nihilism, of eurocentric conceptions of beauty and its effects on black women, of racial authenticity as a threat to black leadership, of pervasive black intellectual insecurities, just to name a few. It's apparent you've given no time or energy to this man's body of work and the ideas he's put forward and propounded, so I suggest you stop posting before you get crushed by an adolescent.
