Dear mr. West, I'm a Brazilian anthropology student whom so happened to walk on by this leccture you gave. I was so moved by the way you teach, almost floating between text and your own thoughts, connecting the work of W.E.B DuBois with our own present reality, of the youth who urges for more access to quality public edducation, with great symbols of human rights and social equality passed we now face a grimm future of incertities, insecurities and an infinite pile of concrete and subjective problems to face... It's such a powerfull experience to have someone your age to be able to create empathy with the next generation existencial questions... Anyway... hope to get some contact out of you and most of all, hope that you will know that somewhere in the mist, and under the veil, of latin america, in Brazil's Bolsonaro, a brazilian boy heard you and got moved... @@RussCR5187 I think just by what you define practical as not being poetic, one cannot mean that facing the truth doesn't require a keen insight as well as intellect. If you want practical solution, then, your practical approach should never be void of human compassion or respect. Those virtues are quite poetic and should be written in verse, but, if we do such things for the people we are ridiculed by others. Without poetry you cannot touch the humanity of people because poetry is like a flower, it takes time, effort, and love. Unlike the instant gratification of hitting a problem head-on just to solve it, every racial issue cannot be solved through a practical approach there is a deeper problem when it comes to human beings and their interaction, and interaction needs reform. One needs to look at poets, authors, and orators to know how to strengthen the collective consciousness as well teach black people to want a better life for themselves as individuals.

Oh my God! Dr. West is a gift from heaven! Every gesture, every tone of his voice, reafirms the joy of life and the dignity of learning. Pick any circumstance of his talk, and it is fountain of teaching not only in his careful words, but his voice, his posture, his sincerity, this man is alive and ready.

The comments are so heartfelt and honestly kind. I'm tired of seeing polarization within social media and society. It's nice that this comment is so well composed and positive. In addition, I heard about Dr.West before but this is a first time listening to his lecture and I'm instantly wishing I was his student. He is truly one of the best lecturers so far I have seen. It puts me into a church setting but also with the intellectual stimulation of a university lecture hall... amazing. can't believe I have the experience of this via youtube. Amazing. happy this is accessible!

He can twist things on the point of a needle. All while drafting the next Declaration of Independence.(Just as long as his bank account stays fat) from the rich white alumni. He just so happens to be linked with. Oops ??? Republicans stopped that truth from getting out. Funny how the “Director” protected that publication from getting through and printed. Respect a man’s actions instead of his false teachings that are fueled by a corrupt bias towards his pocketbook........ of which strings are pulled and paid for by the exact opposite in character and color he pretends to portray. I was so disappointed in the man, when I saw it for myself 1st hand. Young people be careful who and what you listen to. I trust what Chuck D says on his worse day. That’s truth!!!

A MASTER storyteller!! Listen how he CREATES images in the minds of his listeners!! He has the gift of bringing one into his narrative/storytelling as he deftly takes you from there into the REALITIES of this thing called life!!! Is this brilliant or what? But on to the topic of discussion, the 'culture of mass indifference' to what matters, isn't that what those who can do to us who cannot stop them, for now? We shall OVERCOME because we continue to have the guidance of our Creator and the visions of our ancestors on our side!!!💕💯
