I hope that everyone will follow the Pastor to Romans 7 and 8 which give the fullness of the Gospel. The Lord Jesus said in Mathew 5:7 that He didn't come to abolish the law but to fulfil it. Paul made it clear that the law is spiritual and God's righteous requirements (Romans 7: 14-25, 8: 4-14). God did not dispense of the law. He made a way for us to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law by giving us His Holy Spirit (Romans 8:4). Sin is the nature of satan (1 John 3:8), just as holiness is the nature of God (Leviticus 11:44). Without holiness no man can see the LORD (Hebrews 12:14). We cannot cuddle sin in any form and claim to be sons and daughters of God. Is Jesus Christ a minister of sin? Was the Holy Spirit sent by God to empower us to sin? Anyone who does not have the Holy Spirit does not belong to God (Romans 8:9). It is only through the Holy Spirit's work in us that we can fulfill the righteous requirements of the law. Let's keep this in mind always, otherwise we would be led astray by the errors of those who preach licentiousness (Jude 1:4). These are the folks who tell people to live anyhow they like because according to them Jesus Christ has died for their sins and the law no longer applies to them. This is fallacious and one of the doctrines of demons.

My mentor was raised Catholic and was completely transformed by the book of Romans. She had always loved God and tried to serve Him, yet was always aware of how much she failed being acutely aware of sin. Never free from the vicious cycle of sin-confess. Confession only seemed to pile on the guilt of having failed. Romans set her FREE! And then she went on to teach others just as the pastor is doing here.

Pastor Gary, this was a sermon brimming with hope for spiritual restoration on every level. How grateful my wife and I are for the atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ, who not only redeemed us from sin, but lives of futility, worthlessness and lack of love ! In addition to citing Catholicism as works driven and the fact that nothing we ever do can match the true perfect righteousness of God, I hope one day you can cite the pitfalls of traditional Judaism which also advocates a relationship with God based on individual meritocracy. In 1976, when I surrendered my life to Jesus, I was in a spiritual quandary years before. Judaism offered no conclusion for me. It was year after year. Do the best you can, and when the time following the Day of Atonement if your works qualify before God, then you will be added to the Book of Life.. The problem was you never know if you qualified or not. What was the ultimate criteria? How did it differ for each person? Plus in every temple, acceptance was based on an economic hierarchy. Prestige was based not on righteousness but according to occupation. And in many ways, Judaism could be somewhat cruel and dismissive. To be allowed to pray in a synagogue for the High Holy days, a family had to purchase special tickets. If a family could not buy a ticket, they were not permitted to enter. I remember, as a child, my family had to borrow money from a relative to purchase special tickets in order to be allowed to enter the Temple on these High Holy Days. How glorious when Jesus on the cross said that "It is finished., the veil of the temple was torn down as well. So, in conclusion, the works driven emphasis, inherent in Catholicism, is still inherent in Judaism today.

James also is a wonderful book about grace vs works
@pearladams481710 ай бұрын
What James said essentially is that after receiving salvation, we should live a life that prospers God's Kingdom. Our actions should align with God's standards. Even Paul alluded to this in Romans 8:4, "That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." We don't become lawless because we didn't pay for our sins. We actually receive grace from God not to sin. That's why verse 14 of Romans 8 declares that only those who are led by the Holy Spirit are sons of God.

@ashura_amane84998 ай бұрын
We are saved by grace through faith, it's a gift from God and Jesus is the only way yes!but i found important to point it out that it's not passive faith, we are still called to fulfill God's plan for us, we are called to do the will of God, we are here (on earth) for a reason (Eph 2.:10) "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." I'm not (no one is) saved by works, BUT it is important know the will of God for our lives (1 Cor 3:9) "For we are God’s fellow workers " ; (Matthew 7:21) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." He predestine us, He planned us, He loved us before we were born and so may the Holy Spirit guide your life and Lord's face shine on you, God bless you all.

The Gospel of Christ Condensed in 2 Paragraphs All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). God initiated our redemption by sacrificing His Son on the cross to atone for our sin once and for all (John I:29; Hebrews 7:27). Anyone can be saved if he or she believes what God has done through His Son (John 3:16). Sin is the nature of satan (1 John 3:8), just as holiness is the nature of God (Leviticus 11:44). Without holiness no man can see the LORD (Hebrews 12:14). To bridge this gap, God gave us His Holy Spirit as a seal of His ownership (Ephesians 1:13). The Holy Spirit is the one who helps us to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law (Romans 8:4). Jesus Christ did not abolish the law Mathew 5:17). Only those led by the Holy Spirit can fulfill the righteous requirements of the law (Romans 8:4). Only those led by the Holy Spirit are sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:14). If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you do not belong to God (Romans 8:9). It doesn't matter if you try to obey the 10 Commandments (which you actually can't). You can't attain God's standards without the Holy Spirit. Invite Him into your heart today after confessing your sins and putting your trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross. This is the true Gospel of Christ. Any other one is a counterfeit and false religion.

I'm curious... exclusively if grace through faith in Christ allows us to be saved, then does that not seem to give us a "pass" to continue to commit sins?
@eternalardour10 ай бұрын
You are saved, but you'll need to live accordingly to what Jesus asked you to, if you actually read his sermons. He's the way, but you to walk the path in good faith. Your name can be blotted out if you say you love Jesus but embrace sins.
@kristenspencer97519 ай бұрын
This is why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit called "the helper". The Holy Spirit gives us a "want to obey" power, so that sin becomes an "un-natural" thing to us and we gradually, over time, sin LESS. It's called being "Born Again" or born a new (1 Peter 1:3) Paul writes that we become a New Creation in Jesus (2 Cor 5:17) When Adam sinned, the sin seed was passed down to all people. We are of a fallen, human race. Faith in Jesus means that we are spiritually re-born of God's perfect seed. However, despite being born again, we still live in a human body, in a fallen world and retain the habits and thinking patterns we had before we were saved. Those who are truly born again are so grateful to Christ for saving them, and so full of Joy that they have a natural desire to serve Him and obey Him. They do this not in order to get to heaven, but because they love Him. Paul writes in Romans 5-6 that salvation is not a license to keep on sinning. People think..."great, I'm saved! If God keeps forgiving, then sin is no big deal." But a Christian who thinks this way does not please God. And his life is not a witness to Christ. When a Christian does sin, he feels bad about it and wants to make amends. Yes, God forgives the Christian, and has given the person power to not do the sin. It's not automatic. Some people seem to take longer to grow as a believer. But to keep on sinning intentionally, and to remain in the sin because you desire it shows that there is no reverence for the work of Christ on your behalf. If someone was lost and injured in the wilderness and some guys from search & rescue found me, who would not be grateful? Who would not speak well of the rescuers?

James 2:14-26 states that “faith without works is dead.” 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;

Many of the lost feel they don’t need to change because they are saved by grace. I love Gary Hamrick but repeatedly making that statement to the world and Bible illiterate is not right!!
@kristenspencer97519 ай бұрын
Paul addresses this in Romans 5-6 which I'm sure the pastor will eventually get to. For people to think that they can keep on sinning (remaining in sin b/c they desire it) b/c God keeps forgiving is contrary to scripture and does NOT please God. That person causes believers and unbelievers alike to stumble. People question if that person is truly saved? Having received grace doesn't mean that a person instantly becomes sinless. But there should be a NEW desire to not sin. Because a saved person is born again/born a new, born of God, New Creation and has the Holy Spirit called "the helper". The Holy Spirit gives us the power to not want to sin and to obey God...in accordance with our new nature. If someone is saying to themselves (or others)..."I don't need to change" they are deceiving themselves. And they might not be truly saved...OR it could be lack of knowledge...they don't yet understand who they ARE in Christ...which can be a radical change for them. I think the pastor is emphasizing "saved by GRACE" (not works) for the sake of Catholics in his audience.
