First generation models released in 1960 had screws that held the spout/handle assembly on in addition to the epoxy and were not part of the recall which applied to models manufactured between 1961 and 1976.

I wondered why mine was only $20 and it looked brand new. I did some research on it and found that it indeed does have the number on it and is a recall. I’m still using it today. I have one of those little handmade bowl cozies on the bottom, I keep it there all the time when it’s finished parking I left the cozy up and hold the bottom of the percolator while I am pouring it into my cup. I wash it and dry it immediately. Thank you for your video.

Thank you for posting this video I moved to Tennessee in 2015 , I bought the electric 10 cup model from a nice woman that claimed it didn’t work for her but I just replaced the plug and it worked for me . I use mine here and there and haven’t had any issues. Maybe I have a pot that doesn’t have a problem. It makes the best coffee and I boil water in it for tea infusion . I Thank God I haven’t had an issue with mine .

When we got married in 1979 ,we got one of these as a wedding gift.We used it for at least 10 years before it disappeared in the two moves we made .I really don't remember what happened to it.I think we just bought a cheap drip coffeemaker and I stuck it under the counter in the back somewhere.I didn't really like to use it all that much because it stained easily and to keep it nice took a bit of elbow grease and comet cleanser....which I didn't want more to have to do with a young child and baby.I just found a clear vintage Pyrex stove percolator,I had one once too and I broke the stem ..it broke my heart.My husband and I had a wonderful garden that year and we bought our favorite coffee whole beans and ground them for our Pyrex coffee Then we would sit outside by the garden on Saturdays and enjoy the beautiful morning and tomatoes,yellow crookneck and zucchinis growing! Seeing this Cornflower blue one just sparked a whole set of memories that I hadn't thought about in years!

I'm so confused about buying a cornflower stovetop perculater. I bought one from a vintage store for under twenty dollars, and loved the way it perked coffee. Then I heard this video and returned it as it had no serial number on it. So now I don't know what would be safe to use. But I would like to buy one not recalled.

Recently knocked mine off the counter & it broke. The only good part was the ( collar ) band, still attached solid as a rock. Never worried about it. I'll take any stovetop one your too afraid to use. If it's getting loose you should be able to tell, just check it before each use. Plus there are was to secure it anyway.

I have two of these beautiful objects. One was my parents, the other my father in laws some 3000 miles away in the States! BUT please tell me how to use it. I tried freshly ground coffee as in a stove expresso jug but the coffee did not rise up through the centre tube so no percolating bubbles of delicious coffee. Please can anyone enlighten me!
@bunkyman80972 жыл бұрын
Nicola Hyman, My mom had one of these and I currently use a stovetop Pyrex percolator but they work the same. I fill the pot With water to just below the basket insert. I like to grind my own coffee. I have found a course grind is best. Grinding your own isn't necessary as long as you use a coarser grind. I have a 15 oz coffee cup and i use a coffee scoop of beans per that cup. I think its a tablespoon measure. This is all individual per your taste. Espresso is too fine. I wet the basket before putting the coffee grounds in it-that seems to help to keep the grounds out of the coffee. Put the insert into the pot and put the cover on. I set the burner to medium high to get the water hot. As soon as it starts to perk, turn the heat as low as you can while keeping the perking action going. It isnt necessary for it to perk like crazy. Every second or so is enough. It doesnt have to be going strong. If the water boils in the bottom of the pot you will scortch the coffee and it will be bitter and burned. This takes some practice but you will soon learn how with your particular stove. As soon as the water in the knob on the lid starts to turn color I start timing. 6-7 minutes is enough for me. Once again this is dependent on how strong you like your coffee. When finished, take it off the burner and let the perking stop. I remove the basket and pour a cup of the best coffee ever! I have a thermos that I pour the rest of the coffee in so it stays hot. I sure hoe this helps. Enjoy!!
@bunkyman80972 жыл бұрын
Nicola Hyman, P.S., If a lot of steam is coming out of the spout, its too hot. Turn the heat down.

@sarahjalloud3 жыл бұрын
It could have been. This would work as any percolator does. Put water in, put coffee grounds in the basket, put the basket on the stem and position the stem in the receiver on the inside bottom. Place the lid on the pot. If it’s electric, plug it in. If it’s stove top, place it in the stove burner and heat until it boils. It will slurp and gurgle while it is percolating. You may hear the pot sigh when it’s done. Enjoy!
