Someone has mentioned that the NEW Capri is a VW. Apparently the new VW camper is a Ford/VW collaboration. Perhaps one day there will be just one huge conglomerate car maker? The best reason of all, in my opinion? It’s the no doubt about it differentiator is; the identity, the design, the appearance. It’s PURE CLASSIC FORD and could be nothing else. Sadly the 80s are gone. Long live the 80s. Golden years of motoring. Of course Andy was about 2 in 1984, I was 20. The old Capri is still going. Where will new the Capri be in 40 years time. In a skip I expect. Meanwhile Andy will still be driving his Capri around Cornwall, with luck, visiting me in my retirement home, to reminisce about our classic Fords, the ORIGINALS. It will only be tax and MOT exempt after its turned 41 years, at the end of its 40th year from MANUFACTURE, not registration date ! You can email Ford to get a covering letter to show at the Post Office and they will change it to historic classification making it tax exempt. You can work out its build date from the VIN number, there are lots of explanations online if you search. I get the same reaction from people when I'm out in mine, an 86 2.8 Special in Rosso Red. Allow extra time for your journey for all the attention you'll get, filling up can take time 🙂

Brilliant video fella, I think the fuel economy on that 40 year old capri is really good. When I had my V6 Mondeo ST24 I was lucky to get just over 320 miles. Personally I don’t think electric cars are a replacement for the everyday car for everyone. Interesting to see that Toyota are releasing a 2 litre turbo awd celica, plus it looks stylish. Be interesting to see what other manufacturers do long term now. Keep up the great videos and restoration and care of your cars 🙂

Hi Andy hope you are all well a great video as ever and you have a gorgeous capri which is getting better all the time in your ownership To me it seems every time you drive your capri it always leaves you with a massive smile on your face and my uncle gets the same with his 2.0GL also a 1984 he’s owned from new To me the new capri is dreadful it’s just Ford cashing in as you say, it’s not got the soul of the old capri at all and to me it’s not a car you aspire to - in those days Ford sold dreams and brought the car you promised yourself to anyone hence massive range of engines and trims - you could have a capri and make it your own especially the mk1 The new one is basically a Volkswagen ID4 and from what my brother says who has one it’s a good car but Ford should have used a new name All the best and keep that lovely car going Daniel

I'm purchasing a classic Mk3 Capri very soon it'll be before xmas but mine won't be a pristine example it'll be a bit rough around the edges and looked after and will look better as time goes on a rolling driving project 👍😎 I've been saving hard for this but I'll only be getting a 1.6 or 2.0 I'm doing it budget style i miss having one and I'm 51 it's time now.

That was absolutely fabulous. There's nothing in the world that sounds quite so good as a Cologne engined Ford, and there isn't a more appropriate place for one, than under the shapely bonnet of a classic Ford Capri. It's quite literally a marriage made in heaven. And it's blooming fantastic.

I was only having a discussion with a work colleague earlier about the new ford capri and whether Ford will bring out further classics such as the Escort or Cortina. My Dad worked for Ford in the 70s and had a company Mk3 Capri when my brother was born and that was his first car Journey in this world.

You made a great video and I totally agree. Ford missed a really good chance to recreate the Capri in the original spirit of the car. We don't need another big 4 door SUV, and battery powered at that. Guess I'll just have to go out in my shop and have another look at my '77 US version Capri II to quiet my disbelief at Ford ! 😢

I loved the 280 Brooklands model best overall. It was the last I believe. I was only 16 when it was was released. I was drooling when a neighbour turned up in a brand new one! The new Capri looks awful and nothing to do with the original Capri. My brothers car is the best overall 'SUV' in my opinion being a Porsche Cayenne Turbo with it's 4.8 v8 twin turbo engine. The sound even beats the original Capri!

That new capri looks just like every other car on the road today, no individuality just the same shape unlike the beautiful original ford capri which in my opinion was just an iconic car never to be reapeted, but just like everything else they just can't leave well alone. 😞

Another reason is your Capri will not spontaneously combust as EVs seem to be doing a lot and on Australia we did get the Mk 1 and Mk 2 Ford Capri but Ford Australia built there own Capri based on a Mazda platform and it was a four seater convertible

Great video. Of course you missed hundreds of other advantages. Probably the main one is that your classic Capri doesn’t have thousands of lithium batteries that often burst in flames in a thermal runaway and incinerate the car everything around it. I wouldn’t touch an EV with a barge pole.

One is an aspirational car that people had poster of and watched the hero's of the silver screen race around in. A real blue collar cult car. The other is a generic appliance that will be leased for 3 years, then binned and forgotten about by people who have zero interest in cars, and driving is a means to an end. I doubt any of these will see their 10th birthday. They way Ford are going they will be lucky to be around in 10 years. Very sad. They are literally shrinking into the background of the motoring world when not too long ago, they used to redefine it with each new supercar slaying RS, ST, or Cosworth. Come on, Ford, give us another Sierra Cosworth with a rediculour spoiler and a proper engine, only put a decent lock on it this time 😂!

Apart from the fact hat this abomination is a VW, bearing in mind that EV sales are in the doldrums and all manufacturers have changed their future plans regarding EV’s, I think that contrary to what you say, the new SUV will not be a sales success. Typical CCI quality, the parcel shelf is concave, it could be seen even when fitted in the car.

I used to own a sapphire cosworth infact it’s the very same car you have in your garage. I used it for occasional weekend drives but not as a daily as it was old it was rusty it overheated.

@@colinevans39 I'd just like to comment that I thought the 1969 Capri was taking a liberty using the Capri name, given that it stole the name from my 1962 Ford Consul Capri, known as a Capri to us 60's folk. I must say I was less than impressed with the Mk1 reincarnation in 1969. Snob that I was. By the time it got to the Mk3 it had evolved into a beautiful car. My moaning about the '69 Capri was a bit off in retrospect, as it became a great car, and is well deserving of its Classic status. Bu time has moved on and my Grandsons generation have been well educated about EV technology and must say with what I have learned, there is a lot of misinformation surrounding the life and repairability of LFP batteries. The author of this is giving a "guy down the pub says" fact tour. Dare you to educate yourself on real scientific data. My Grandson steers well clear of pubs by the way, too many experts like me drink there!!🥸
