You’ve done a very good job 👍 the company should do something like this. I’ve had my one up for 6 years now with the same original batteries.

I am also fed up with changing the batteries, my battery box is OK. I intend to get rechargeable D cells and run charging wires from inside the house to the battery feed. I assume you leave yours on charge all the time. Does it still work OK?

Hi, yes, it is working fine. I do leave it on charge all the time and i expect after a couple of years i will need to change the pack, but once every two years is better than every 6 months. It's a simple, cheap mod that works as intended. You may as well buy some good 1800Mah Eneloop and then a AA to D adapter. My battery contacts broke off so i couldn't use D cells.

Excellent idea, but that rechargeable battery will only last for 30sec if siren was to be activated. Size D batteries produce a much higher capacity so siren can sound for roughly 15mins. You would need a 20000mah rechargeable battery to have the same effect.

What? Are you having a laugh. That battery will run the entire bellbox for just over a week. It will certainly power the alarm siren for several hours. WHY would i need a 20 AMP battery???? Mate, your electrical maths are WAY off. Or you just don't understand why i did this. The **rechargeable** battery is a **failsafe** in the event of a powercut, the main alarm control panel is connected via a UPS which will power the alarm for well over 96 hours and as all the sensors are battery powered, they still function. Therefore in the event of a LONG power outage, my alarm will function for at least a week without mains power. I did this because it solves the issue of the crappy battery connectors and i dont have to get ladders out to change batteries. YES, if i had kept it totally wireless then i agree but even so, i would have still have to change / charge it. Now, it is trickle charged 24/7. Yes, at some point i will have to change it but not for a couple of years at least.
