As a kid growing up in the early ‘70’s, I loved going into our local Cadillac, Olds, GMC dealership service area when one of my parents or grandparents cars needed maintenance. The front-end pit with a Bear alignment system. Mirrors on the steel wheel rims, crosshairs targets. Mr. Carlson was the alignment tech and he’d take me down in the pit and show me what he was doing. Ahh, small town Flagstaff, Arizona before the California invasion. It was a different time. I can’t remember what brand of alignment equipment we had in our High School autoshop, but I remember struggle bussing the thing. Of course our opportunity to use it didn’t come until later in our second year of classes, so it didn’t get much use. Cheers!

7-800 is about what a snap on cable costs for there scanners. Last snap on scanner I had was the original verus with the personality keys. There so over priced and under perform

Very true. Back when Snap On treated me well I bought everything from them. I've probably had 7 Snap On scan tools, from the old brick to the Verus. None of them were worth what I paid, but back then it felt like my only option. The rest of the industry caught up and Snap On thought they could do what ever they wanted and had mechanics by the balls. They were wrong, many of us realized we were being loyal to a company not at all loyal to anyone but itself. :)

I would look at the arm tension, I've seen issues from too light or too much tension. I usually give them a small tweak/bend and see if it gets better or worse.

Yeah Jeff, for sure. I usually check codes with the engine off, but have the engine running to look at data related to the codes. GM and Toyota are good about having the engine running most of the time, while brands like Ford and BMW get sad if you try things with the engine running. So always a little bit of adjustments per vehicle.
