That, if the car hasn’t been experiencing any overheating issues, what other factors could lead to the bearings deteriorating in such a way? It’s a curious thing to consider how they could be shedding without the typical signs of overheating.

Hey Man! Just a heads up, if you're working with powersteering systems like these, and especially when using this EXPENSIVE but magnificent fluid that is CHF 11S, remember my comment. Those powersterring systems work much like a one-way valve, and the fastest, most efficient and cleanest way to flush the fluid (according to an Audi (Bentley) Workshop Manual) is following the steps mentioned below. 1. Locate the return line from the powersteering column to the powersteering fluid tank. 2. Unplug the return line, plug the hole from the powersteering fluid tank. 3. Making a U shaped bend, direct the return line to a CLEAR bottle, this can be done much easier by wedging a clear flexible tube inside the return line. 4. With the car turned off, and while front wheels are on the air, turn the steering wheel ONCE, so the reservoir gets emptied till it barely covers the bottom. 5. Fill the reservoir with CHF 11S fluid. 6. Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock, take good care to keep the reservoir filled. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 till GREEN come out the tube wedged in the return line. 8. Reattach the return line and fill the reservoir to the top. I do this on my Audi A4 twice a year.

Apart from the metal shavings in the engine oil, this S600 looks amazingly clean, even underneath. But I much prefer seeing you, Waldo, work on this beauty. You're so good at what you do! These were the original subcontracting enterprises.
@n.ull.2 ай бұрын
@@maxberres1701 The surcharge may have reasons behind it, if the differentiating factor is just a logo sure, it makes no sense to "overspend" , but if the differentiating factor is less durability a flimsier part or just overall a lower standard of quality then that is simply asking for double displeasure. There's OEM , then come the reputable brands which you mentioned , they are on par or sometimes solve issues the manufacturer doesn't bother with because the model is discontinued, but the parts manufacturer does and slightly improves old design, and then there's other brands no one knows about ,that try and undercut the market for a quick payday, people are quick to spend thousands on tv phones hairdriers, but a set of good Nokian winter tyres with tungsten studs??? nah, better get that discounted linglong set, that's a good saving right there, that's smart. I'm almost certain that if you share this part of youtube you would have surely seen a channel called "Just rolled in" and if you haven't oh boy you're in for a good belly laugh, and questioning the morality of letting a certain % of people drive , vote, or even be in civilized society, it makes you realize the sub room temperature iq of some people, now apply that same sub zero iq to buying and "saving" money on parts that are integral to steering or breaking, that we know are most probably out there on the market that should not be, but there's so many of them , that authorities can't take em out fast enough. In essence what you understand and what Waldo is saying and what people with common sense know, is to use quality parts, whether OEM or reputable parts manufacturers , he is using OEM because he can afford it, and is probably what was available or it gives him piece of mind, some other reason he has.

There is always a simple way do dismount/mount any part of it you need to replace. I've already faced with all the suspention, bearings and brakes front and rear( by the way it costs the same price as for any other modern car - I've spent $1800 here in Ukraine for all the parts excluding air suspention components), alternator belt and pulleys, cooling pump, some electronic components. It's all easy to maintain by your own and the car is nice to drive and wonderful by itself.

Great video 🙂Small tip from an engineer, if the manual doesn't give you a spec of how much you have to tighten a screw, just print out a file for the different screw types and material you screw in. I guess this V12 has an aluminium body. So just lock up for example M8 8.8 screw in aluminium. Sometimes you also have 10.9 or even 12.9, depending on how much strength the screw has to deal with. Often on the suspension the screws have to take more load, and you want high safety, so there are more screws with a 10.9 or even 12.9 spec. For the belt pullies, I guess its either an M8 or an M10 8.8 screw, so either 25Nm or 49Nm of torque. That's just the normal torque spec. There are more specific torque specs when the thread and or the screw has oil on it. Greets Sebastian

I'm actually surprised at how easy a lot of the things you did were as well. Mercedes, VW, Audi, bmw are not very well known for doing things the simplest way. I put a new turbo on the wife's VW Passat and it wasn't the hardest thing in the world, but I was swearing at a lot of thing at just how stupid they were and how tight things were to get to. And I'm a mechanic by trade, I got all the cool nice snap on tools and 20+ yrs of experience-pertise at a GM dealer and dodge/ Cummins diesel which don't get any easier or simple to work on! As far as the metal in the oil filter, it's all right! Drive it! It'll be fine! Don't worry about it. Your a lot like me and panics as and plans a full engine rebuild and new motor for something just as soon as the littlest sign of the smallest little failure of something lol, maybe it's just the ocd in me or the professional auto tech and perfectionism where everything has to be nasa level of precise. Remember your dealing with a 100k mile engine here, they build a cushion of extra bearing material in. They expect the onto wear! That all could just be break in bearing material that's coming out over time in the oil filter. You mentioned the auction house started the engine with a crack in the oil pan? While that's not good practice, what it could be is that the pickup tube sucked a lot of junk that was on the bottom of the pan, residual bearing junk and particles that were sitting stuck on the bottom of the pan since they are heavier, the oil pump sucked all that junk up due to snow oil level and the filter captured it. A lot of residual glitter and metal junk stays in the bottom of the pan! It all dosent get picked up when the engines pull of oil, hence why drain plugs have magnets, but not all bearing material is magnetic. Actually none of it really is, a lead/ copper babbit bearing material isn't magnetic. Did you run a magnet across the glitter that was in the oil filter? Did the magnet pick it up or no? There's your answer on where it came from! But not nessicsrly means there's damage to the mains or cam bearings. Again it could have just been residual materials from 100k miles of engine break in and normal driving the pick up tube sucked up when the oil level was low. A quick start with low oil wouldn't necessarily hurt anything as oil galleys and bearings have stagnant oil stuck in them, and will be lubed enough for a short start. It's not a good practice to start something without oil, but not a death sentience! Runnit! Drive it! If it ain't making any noise then don't worry about! Run the proper weight oil with a quart of Lucas! Thatttl take up any excess bearing clearances. If it starts knocking and clanking around then you'll know. But I think you're being kind of a Karen about it and worrying to Much! That motors and the bearings are a lot tougher than you think, it's a Mercedes not a brigs and Stratton 5 horse mower engine on a go cart! German engineers put some thought into stuff, that's what you're paying all that extra money for! That fuel filter service was kinda icky, I could imagine some a car breaking like gas after something like that and spilling all Over the seat and the floor! I dig the coolant vacuum filler. We didn't have cool stuff like that back in the days at the dealer. We had a pressure bleeder for breaks and stuff. That suspension system looks Like a nightmare.

I had the older 1993 W140 S500L. It was an amazing piece of German over engineering. I did all the fluid changes and other mechanical work on it. I was able to source special tools on eBay from Eastern Europe for a fraction of the price in New Zealand. Under the bonnet was amazing with vacuum hoses everywhere running windows and locks. Surprisingly easy car to work on.

Hi Waldo, i really really hate how far apart your videos are and how long you have us waiting after finishing the newest video.... and it's the best thing about this channel 😊 Irony aside: scarcity works in your favor IMHO. If you can make the economics work, I would leave the pace as it is. Greetings from a German viewer.

I love this car!!! The S600 from 11-13 are rare and beautiful. I’ve own 8 CL600’s new from 2000-2014, skipping the hideous 07-10 versions. I still own a 2012 full Designo CL550 and a full Designo 14 CL600 that I bought new, both with less than 10k miles on each. You’ll never drive a finer car. I love them and I’m happy you have one in your collection. Your 550 and 600 are the only two cars you really need. I did buy a new Jaguar XJR in 2007, then a new 2009 Bentley GT Speed, (worst car in the world) since I couldn’t stomach the CL, I ended up holding onto the Bentley until I finally saw the 2011 CL in 2010. I now have had 3 new S65 Coupe’s and have kept my 2019 with the Designo interior and won’t ever buy another Mercedes again. I guess I’m like those little old ladies who never change their hair after they hit 50. Congrats, great find. If it were me, I’d drive this car until the wheels fell off and not mess with the bearings. Use some extremely good additive and be done. It should last you a lifetime. My only suggestion would be to buy the 10 spoke 20” staggard set-up, optional wheels like the ones on my CL600. They are rare and hard to find but the really set the car off. Look at the 2013 Grand Edition CL550 and you can see the wheels I’m talking about out.

We are the beneficiaries of your hard work and effort. This took a lot of time, and I imagine you would get your money hacked should you see this vehicle and show the video, proving your quality work. I love cars, although I have never worked on one, and I wonder why young men of this generation find work like this undesirable. One has to be smart, resourceful, and determined to do this kind of work, which is underappreciated by the general market. I also know that setting up cameras, research, editing, and fine-tuning again takes lots of time and effort. I have always heard that Mercedes was hard to work on; you validated that it was cleverly designed, and given all the buzzers and whistles, it is not as complex as one might imagine. Thanks for doing quality work and showing people who know little how commonsensical this process was. You clearly have lots of good production skills as well.

Great video, and a nice personality. Waldo deserves more subscribers! What struck me was the astronomical difference between dealer service cost and the actual ease of working on the car. Not too many special tools needed, and solutions are designed for relatively easy servicing. Many econo-boxes are much worse on both counts. And Citroen was right about the superiority of hydraulic suspension 😁
