My Cardiologist sent me for a Coronary Artery CT Scan and 24 hours later called me to tell me he was prescribing 40 mg of Rosuvastatin STAT! I said Doc, stop the clock what's going on? He said your coronary calcium score is 1707 and you need to be on a statin drug immediately.
I said Doc, I do not want to take statin drugs because of the multiple side effects associated with them. His reply was we need to get your LDL cholesterol down to acceptable levels to prevent future damage to your arteries. Basically, take the statin or drop dead.
Time for a second opinion, which is exactly what I did, and in this video, I'll show you my test results along with my new cardiologist's opinion on how to approach this. Not necessarily what I wanted to hear, but he's willing to listen to my concerns and work with me.
Enjoy! Happy Plumbing!
Bob

When I have a plumbing problem, I hire a plumber. When I have a heart issue, I hire a cardiologist. I would not recommend betting your life on the advice of people on the Internet that contradicts the established medical standards. Especially when they are trying to sell you some book that they wrote. Also, you are already taking a statin- red yeast rice contains varying amounts of the same active ingredient in lovastatin. The difference is that lovastatin is regulated whereas supplements are not. I myself was in the same boat as you 7 years ago and I fought my doctor regarding rosuvastatin. It took some time but I finally took his advice and I am glad that I did. I am now 2 years past my expiration date. I am now on a plant-based diet and am hoping that diet, exercise, and rosuvastatin will help undo some of the damage I did to myself earlier in my life.

About 8 years ago, my GP recommended a statin because my total cholesterol was about 180. I asked for an additional test to see if that was necessary. He recommended the CCA scan. My result was 1000. So , have been on 20 mg statin (no effects seen)and cholesterol is now about 100-125 since. I have had two PET scans ( high tech stress test) and no abnormalities seen over the eight years. There are a number of new ,more sophisticated , blood tests that have not hit prime time yet; but it is clear that the standard LDL- HDL tests are too gross to predict much of anything definite. I work out at least five times a week including cardio and strength exercise which seems to help me.

Fast forward to today, I compromised with my cardiologist and am taking 5mg statin. No side effects and dropped my number 30 points to 170. I know that if I can get my self into working out again, that number will decrease even further. But I'm not as concerned with the "NUMBER" as the medical community is.

Thanks for the video. It is good that you research the facts. I chose to take the Statin meds and my health has been great so far. Of course everybody is different. Being about the same age as you I enjoy your videos. I am also a plumber in Florida. Best of luck to you. Keep up the great information.

Hey I'll not complaining about the topic. I'm only 34 and I've been a plumbing for 16 years. I'm already starting to pay the physical price for being in this trade. I also worry about the long term exposure to all the toxins that we deal with. I hope the best for you!

Thank you for sharing your opinions on statins, cholesterol and coronary heart disease.. Around 6:50 you mentioned the calcium buildup were unlikely caused by diet, in your case, as you eat rather healthily. If you're open to share. Could you explain a little on what eating healthily looks like? (In your case) including the supplements? Lastly, I wish you all the best with whichever educated decision you make at the end.

M-F: Breakfast two hard-boiled eggs, maybe an apple or pear w/ organic peanut butter, black coffee no sugar. S-S I go off the wagon a bit: Breakfast three scrambled eggs, strawberries, blueberries, or an apple w/ organic peanut butter, black coffee no sugar. Lunch, same as above, Dinner I love my pizza on weekends or maybe a burger w/ sweet potato fries. Sunday dinner may be either some wild-caught salmon or whatever pasta I'm feeling. Expresso! @@BobsPlumbingVideos You have a very healthy diet, and I wish you good luck and success improving your cholesterol & avoiding adverse events caused by statins. I used to be a pharma rep for 12 years up to 2005 when drug studies were longer than 6 months. Big Pharma reduced duration of drug studies sooner (sometimes 3 mo's) so they can reduce side effect statistics to get FDA approval, make drugs seem safer & increase Dr Rx's to make more money. All drugs have toxic side effects, like you said, biggest question is do the benefits outweigh the risks? Glad you got second Dr's opinion. Many Drs are pill pushers because they own stock in Big Pharna co's & want to increase their ROI!

Wow, you're dealing with a serious "plumbing" problem right there. Get some supplements that are good for your cardiovascular system into your daily routine. The top ones are CoQ10, Resveratrol, Nattokinase, and Garlic extract. By the way, I practice what I preach, I take everything I mentioned daily.

Calcium inorganic minerals from diet Mostly hard water ? Foods prepared with hard water. Organic calcium shouldn't be depositing itself in your vascular system. My 2 cents

Not giving medical advice here but.....Did you have labs for CRP and IL-6? Your level of coronary calcification is disproportionate to your lipid profile bearing in mind that there are some exceptions to the rule. I ask because one of the drivers of coronary calcification is inflammatory based. Statins exerted an anti inflammatory effect that may be beneficial in your case. So they go well beyond lowering your serum lipids. I see that you take red yeast rice. Because it’s an unregulated food product potencies vary tremendously even within the same brand. RYR is very similar to prescription statins but not identical. If you tolerate RYR well you can expect good tolerance to a statin although the dose recommend is moderately high. Remember, you can always stop the statin at any time if your tolerance is poor. Sources matter greatly when researching medical literature. Beware of physicians who cherry pick studies that fit their agenda or philosophy.

I have familial hypercholesterolemia, which means my cholesterol is high for genetic reasons. I have spent hours watching experts on KZbin, including the ones you listed, and as a result, also told my doctor I wanted to stop taking statins, which I had been doing for over 30 years. After reveling to her that these doctors advocated the keto lifestyle and that I wanted to follow it also, my doctor dropped the conventional medical dogma she was obligated to follow, and revealed that she fully supported my decision, and the keto lifestyle. Statins suppress all cholesterol, not just LDL. Going off statins allowed my body to produce more of all types of cholesterol, including HDL. Because CVD risk is based on the ration of good to bad cholesterol, my panels have never been better. Looking at your lab results, you are a blood pattern A, with a 1.1 score (triglycerides / HDL), which means you are in great shape. If your CRP (inflammation level) is also low, then you are at low risk of your CVD getting worse due to LDL. I am not a doctor, but I assume an occluded artery might eventually kill you if the factors that lead to the occlusion are still at work. Seed oils are a prime suspect due to their high levels of oxidative stress (I suspect you already know this). I encourage you to reach out to Dr. Berry to get his take on your CVD. I take K2, and focus on eating a non-inflammatory (keto) diet. I am 71. My mind has never been clearer since dropping statins.

Thank you, thank , thank you!!! I'm so struggling with taking the 5 mg recommended rovustatin, but continue the red yeast rice and CQ10, D3 and even a baby aspirin. I will reach out to Dr. Berry for his opinion, it's difficult to accept that you're "sick" when you feel absolutely great and have no symptoms. Regards, Bob.
