Estimated is a great way of saying “We cant provide receipts to back it up.” Part of the claim is that they bring tourism. That’s rubbish, If they disappeared tomorrow, it’d make no difference. France’s Palaces are still visited by millions each year.
@carolhama4156 Жыл бұрын
Well, they bring me and other tourists to the UK. We forked out several thousands of dollars on hotels, restaurants, transportation by rail, air, ferry, tour buses, boats. We went to visit Buckingham Palace, even booked and expensive tour inside ...If it weren't for the Queen we would not have bothered, we would have gone straight onto Germany, France and Italy, because THAT was the major difference between Paris, Rome and Venice. THAT is how I feel about the UK as a visitor. The Royals have it. I believe they also brought in great wealth to the UK back in the colonial days that put Britain on the map. Perhaps England would be as wealthy as poor Scotland is today had the Royals not existed.

It is a mad world of different dimension with the King wearing the Royal Navy No 1 tailcoat with sword, the collar of the Order of the Garter, Order of the Thistle Sash, Order of Merit neck ribbon, Garter Star and Thistle Star, the full-size medals including the Queen’s Service Order (New Zealand), Coronation Medal, Silver Jubilee Medal, Golden Jubilee Medal, Diamond Jubilee Medal, Platinum Jubilee Medal and a Naval Long Service Good Conduct (LSGC) (three x Additional Service Bars), the Canadian Forces Decoration (three x Additional Service Bars), the New Zealand Commemorative Medal, and the New Zealand Armed Forces Award and the ultimate accolade he could receive for a person of blue blood with no particular merit, competence, or expertise. In spite of the niceties of pomp and pageantry, the British monarch is a grotesque institution with lots of historical baggage in its wake. The British monarchy is the relic of the past with the grandiose of God Save the King antic representing United Kingdom and the British Crown and an institution full of blood in their hands in its exploitation of the colonies all over the world. The British monarchy was central to the establishment, expansion, and maintenance of the British empire and the transatlantic slave trade. It is the pride of UK but was loathe by the rest of the Global South under the British rules. That is why colonial West historical amnesia about the rapacity of its rule in Africa is so deplorable. If history is any guide to past events in Africa, the atrocities committed by the British on Africa is beyond comprehension. The colonial power pillage Africa and steal their natural resources as well as forcing the natives in Africa into slavery. Britain transported 3.1 million Africans (of whom 2.7 million arrived) to the British colonies in the Caribbean, North and South America and to other countries. The ships then travelled across the Atlantic to the American colonies where the Africans were sold for sugar, tobacco, cotton and other produce. The Africans were sold as slaves to work on plantations and as domestics. There was also two-way trade between Europe and Africa, Europe and the Americas and between Africa and the Americas. The crime against humanity and atrocities committed by the British is beyond comprehension.
