Steve was a little sh** when he married Vicky just for her money. Ultimately, he stayed in the show for long enough to morph into a half-decent human being. Incredible when you consider that his screen father, the mad Irishman, was one of the most unlikable characters in the whole show. And he talked rubbish. I have a close friend who was born and bred in Belfast and she swears she hasn't a clue what "Jim McDonald" is ever talking about.

Its a tribute to the acting of Sue Nicholls as she plays the increasingly nauseating pomposity & snobbery of the cold feeling, extremely selfcentred, Audrey Roberts!! She was always a barrel of laughs when she occasionally popped up in Corrie to sneak a visit to daughter Gail However since becoming a main character shes really shown her colours! She treats every one that she cant benefit from, with contempt, especially poor Alf who is a stick in the mud but at heart will help anyone & is a real softie. He was so desparate to remarry after Renee died & couldnt believe his luck when Audrey said Yes! Then as soon as she agreed she began her systematic bleeding Alf dry of his savings The poor man was so manipulated by this cold narcissistic viper he couldnt refuse her anything. But, recently hes come to see what she really is. Even Gail knows what a selfish cow her mother is, Audrey is only out for Audrey Sue Nicholls plays her to perfection! Able to give her character such a personality that is so disliked by everyone! I must say, ( as far as i know) she was never unfaithfull sexually, to Alf Her desire was only Alfs cash! To me this is when gradually the characters in Corrie got more grimey, tacky, nasty and darker. It's very gradual, and I haven't watched it for 10 years or so when storylines got ridiculous, but you can just start to see the darkness gradually creeping through in the middle 90s.
