Thelma Barlow was brilliant as Mavis. When she left the street, she was very good in the Dinnerladies series, working with 3 other former Coronation Street actors and 3 future Coronation Street actors.

thx for putting these up. I have watched since the first episode. There have been some wild characters over the years , I have disliked some characters but the only character that have consistently hated has been Ken Barlow. Ken has always been the most self righteous , dull and boring idiot all these years.

She was horrible to him, always belittling and ridiculing poor Alfeh. She only wanted him for money and security when she realised she was getting too old to live off men who were never going to leave their wives for her. Great that he left her with far less than she was expecting, but if only he's grown a pair in life, rather than being her personal bank.

This is brilliant when I've not seen earlier years, episodes of Coronation Street. Thank you. Some characters are familiar like Gail, David, Nick, Ken, Rita. What is it about how back then the writers stories were different and kind of more entertaining from what's aired today? It's disappointing when watching current episodes and how the stories of the characters are written to be inconsistent, and just when a particular storyline piques my interest, curiosity there's no continuity, or conclusion, but I still watch it anyway.

1:04:18 I am fairly sure Albert Tatlock did not die in No. 1 Coronation Street. As I remember, he died away from the street, and his death only mentioned by others, probably because Jack Howarth died in real-life before Albert's death was referred to on-screen.
@EveHenleySpread
@EveHenleySpread 2 жыл бұрын
Yep absolutely right, he was staying with his daughter Beattie when he died and then she came to tell Ken & Deirdre the news. Obviously it had to be this way due to Jack Howarth dying in real life in a similar fashion whilst on a break from Corrie in North Wales.

For a man, Curly Watts doesn't half give way to hysterics: over Raquel here, and earlier (1990-91) over dreary Kimberley. No wonder women tended to back away from him. I felt sorry for Raquel - she just wanted to be loved, unfortunately she wasn't in love with the one man who almost obsessively loved her (Curly).

It is off putting because it’s feminine behavior. Watching a man be “sensitive” and “in touch with his emotions “ may be what modern women SAY they want but they are repulsed by it when they see it in action. Women also think they want a totally devoted, doormat, wimp who jumps at their every command but again….watching Curly makes us sick. I’m sure I’ll get ripped up and down for pointing this out but it’s very true.

@@mirandawinstead2465 quite right, if anything it made her worse. Tracy has got no conscience and thinks everything works around her. But having said that, taking drugs, and ending up on life support, to spite her mother for marrying someone who she disapproved of is, even by her standard, a bit pants. I’m quite certain she didn’t do it for that reason, as it was mentioned that someone drugged her drink at a nightclub and she felt quite daft about it afterwards.

Because in general…..that’s how it really is. Stereotypes come from somewhere. They aren’t plucked out of thin air. (I am aware it’s not always 100%….nothing is. But adults should be capable of speaking in generalities and not having to point out the obvious “not all”)
