Absolutely. Modern Coronation Street has had it - it lost its way some time back in the mid to late 2000s and that's being generous! Today's CS is force feeding a narrative which does not reflect normal society at all! I'm well aware how soap operas are microcosms of society, but come on, give me strength! ITV are happy to make money off the back of CS as a brand (yours, merchandise, etc.) - it's akin to the Glazier's at Manchester United.

Agreed, actor Bryan Mosley who brought Alf Roberts so vividly to life on ITV's 'Coronation Street' for an impressive, 37 year span, was a superb actor, of rare talent. He was also a gifted stunt man, who had a distinguished CV as a fight arranger and fencing instructor, often credited under the name 'Buddy Windrush'. His skills in this regard were seen in his villain role opposite Michael Caine in the cult gangster film 'Get Carter' (he arranged the famous fight scene in which Caine beat him up and threw him off a multi storey car park in Gateshead). Mosley brilliantly choreographed the all-important sword fights for Terence Stamp in 'Far From the Madding Crowd', and performed stunts in TV adverts including one for breakfast cereal in which he swung from a chandelier! Never having had children himself, Corrie icon Alf would have adored the grandchildren he got, thanks to his marriage to Audrey Potter. Bryan Mosley recognised this loving, paternal aspect to Alf, and had such empathy for the character he had played for so long, he responded to those children with exactly the same fulsome, protective love he would have done. Alf Roberts was a beloved 'Coronation Street' character - and it's clear there was a lot of Bryan Mosley in him, in real life a loving, devoted husband to Norma, and father of six.

This brings back soo many memories for me I grew up near all the places they mention and all the sayings I had forgotten. I live in Australia now and nothing beats the old corrie street! Bring back the old script writers they were so much better story lines than today. I must admit though that there was always a few backhanders and fisticuffs back then that I don’t agree with but all the same. Thanks for downloading these precious memories.

45:30 - Being as Corrie writers seem to enjoy a long running feud (e.g. Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin), why on earth did they let this opportunity pass? When Ian Mercer returned to the street, remodelled as Gary Mallett - why didn't they bring him back as Pete Jackson (as he is here) but with a new wife (Judy)? We know his first wife runs off with Terry Duckworth, so Judy Mallett could easily have been written in as his second wife, and have been Judy Jackson. Also it would have generated ongoing drama due to the Malletts/Jacksons buying the Duckworth's house in 1995, and every time Terry turns up there'd be even more reason for trouble. Especially when Judy's demise, years later, is down to Terry's dodgy dealings. Thus, Terry ruins both of Pete Jackson's marriages. But with this opportunity missed, and Ian Mercer is brought back as a new character (Gary Mallett), Terry just ruins two unrelated marriages - when it could have all been part of another long-term war between the Duckworths and the Jacksons. I just can't understand why the writers didn't make use of this, and keep Ian Mercer as Pete Jackson.
