I played with but never published this rough edit of an introduction to coroplast planes and the flashing process.

Nice video! I have a 1/4 scale cub with a 110 inch wing span made from coroplast. It has a 26cc Gasoline engine.

Dang, gotta go to work only half way through. Can't wait to SPADfest so I can smash that dang, I mean fly that dang YAK, it looks good. Instead of Modgpodge though thin Goop with Xylene (get it by the can in the paint thinner section. Thin it till it spreads like chocolate syrup and use it just like the modge. I agree on the mineral spirits. Might not be caustic but I can taste it when I get it on my hands. That can't be really good for a person. You can tell that the FT crew has more then one person just from the filming, guess that's obvious, but I get dizzy with your head moving. And when they have more then one person especially one with production in his background, I'm sure there are scripts to be followed and extra cuts with "Say it this way" additions. You're video is only suffering from lack of a staff. It looks pretty good. I did miss that section where you said "Clean taught me everything I needed to know" but I guess edits are like that, every once in a while the important stuff ends up on the cutting room floor. Looking good Monkey.

+MrClean417 Oh yeah, I said that so many times the editor got tired of it.... :-) Now if I was talking about engine tuning or break in then I would make sure they kept in your reference.

What do you mean by a EPP core? Great video. I'm just getting into SPAD. I love profile planes. I want t build one like that.

EPP is type of hobby foam. If you google the term I'm sure it will take you to sales sites. There are heavy and light versions so get which you need, it is great for electric planes. That glow powered profile did not fly well. The wing loading was too high and the tips were too short which lead to tip stalls. It flew once and that was it. Sometimes ideas don't work as well as you think. LOL Good luck!

Hi, Do you have any more coro building videos? This video was excellent! Where do you buy your 2 mm coroplast? Do you find it locally or purchase on line with typically high shipping cost?

Thomas, sorry what I have uploaded is all I made, mostly out of the Radio Control scene now. Sometimes you can get 2mm at a local sign supply shop if you are lucky. I bought all mine from Harbor Sales, google and find them online. I was fortunate to get full sheets delivered but most folks have to call them and plan the cuts for 24" x 48" as the largest shippable size. Good luck!

Would love to get the plans/info on that profile SPAD.

cattail, The fuse is just scaled up from the Ledfeather YAK on RCGroups. The wing.... it tip stalled to violently and just was not a good design. The spar was too thick at the root and too thin at the tip. It flew too heavy for the wing area too even though it "shouldn't" have been. Sometimes they don't turn out perfect, but that's scratch building! :-)

Ah you must be the same guy from the spadworld forums. I want to build a diamond dust type delta speedster. I might go with the "can o tuna" version as it is 4mm. Coro is super expensive here ($40/sheet) so I have to scrounge what I can (freebies from 7-11 lol) I take it Goop is different then Shoe goo? Ill grab some goop since that is the tried and true glue. Cheers eh

It's been a few years since I checked but yes I spent alot of time working on spadworld. The tuna is an easy delta. My SLOTH has a wider flight envelope but is better done in 2mm. Not sure where you live but you can always contact Harbor Sales and have them ship 24"x48" cuts of sheets for not a bad cost.. Good Luck!

Why is "flashing" needed on coroplast?
@DaveGFlying
@DaveGFlying 6 жыл бұрын
Itchie, the plastic is very "slippery" due to the way it is made. You have to remove the outer layer of, let's call it oil, so the glue can grip the material.

Thanks for the reply. Next question, I don't have a butane torch, would a paint stripper also do? Hair dryer? Or wipe it with brake cleaner (in aerosol)?
@DaveGFlying

I show an alternate method using mineral Spirits and a scotchbrite pad. Brake cleaner might be too caustic but I haven't tried it. A hair dryer would not be hot enough and a paint gun would be too hot, IMHO.
