Corporal Eric Glass DCM, QGM, Ulster Defence Regiment tells his heroic story. The most highly decorated soldier during Operation Banner, this part time soldier was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Queen’s Gallantry Medal for is actions for peace in Northern Ireland. A true British hero.

What a courageous gentleman. Mr Glass is so matter of fact in describing his encounter with the terrorists, but I hung on every word. A hero in every sense of the meaning, each medal earned and proudly worn. I thank him for his service to our country.

A brave law abiding citizen who as a member of the UDR was do his bit to assist in upholding the rule of law and nearly paid the ultimate price. Contrast this man's contribution to society versus that of the terrorist - out to murder the innocent. A great debt of gratitude is owed by all of us in NI to Mr Glass and all those member's of the security forces who upheld the law.

This is bravery, this is a true act of gallantry on his part. One man with a pistol against four men with fully automatic weapons. The sdiffrence between a man like this and terrorists is this man could have murdered in cold blood and chose not to. What about his attackers, could the same be said for them?
