1:35 to 1:58 Wow! That could perfectly be the coast somewhere in central Chile in spring! Amazing. 3:42 And that again! (except for the squirrels that don't exist in the southern hemisphere). I know exactly what you mean by that wildlife scent . There are many rocks along the Chilean coastline with colonies of sea lions.

When next in the Carmel Highlands eat at the Highlands Inn's Lochinvar Room. Five Stars. Rather than dangle your feet in a random stream, take a few hours soak at the Tassajara Hotsprings or, on the coast, at the Essalen Institute hotsprings. At Essalen, you can hot soak, climb out and run down to the ocean for the cold plunge. Oh ... the seals are rocking it because this is Great White and Orca season in these waters. I'm sure you guys gave ;-D))) a great flight.

When John is PF he takes the controls at 80 ''my yoke'' ,not from the beginning of the TO run as Sahun does when he is PF I'm wondering if this is SOP the Captain steering with rudders and one hand on the tiller?
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
Yep. No matter who is flying, Jon always has his left hand on the tiller for the first part of the takeoff roll, so when he is flying I hold the yoke until he is ready to move his left hand from the tiller to the yoke at 80 knots. When I am flying, I can hold the yoke right from the start since my right hand has nowhere to be. I hope that all makes sense.
@obp68916 жыл бұрын
Sure thanks Is the tiller needed bellow 80 in case of loosing one engine? Also wondering how is control transfer at 80 in a X wind TO when Jon is PF
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the tiller really shouldn't be used at all on a normal takeoff situation. Directional control can be totally maintained using the rudder pedals, even in a heavy crosswind or an engine failure situation. The main reason the tiller stays guarded is in case the nosewheel makes a "hard over". Then he would need to grab the tiller and counter it.

As a young student I was in a 177RG. It was my first time in a retractable and was doing a night flight out of Cheyenne. It was MVFR so I was already a little tense as it was also hot and the DA was rather high. Anyhoo...I had just pulled the gear and as they were transiting...BANG!!!! The window latch had DE latched and I almost soiled my drawers. My instructor was laughing as he had PLANNED it to see how I'd react. He then asked me for the current alt/speed/heading etc...to see if I had my wits. Apparently I passed the "test" and we had a good laugh about it the rest of the flight down to Castle Rock!

Ok...here's a question from a non flying person. At 24:45 I noticed the back up artificial horizon under the Auto Pilot altitude set display has a yellow vertical bar that was swinging back and forth. It also had two red flags, that are the 'To', 'From' indicators to a beacon I believe. Why was this yellow bar swinging back and forth? Just curious...
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
That is the navigation needle for tracking a VOR or ILS localizer. When not in use, it may have a random frequency set in, so it will swing left and right when picking up a slight signal from a distant transmitter. When we have a good frequency set for a nearby VOR or ILS, it will be nice and stable. One of those red flags you are seeing is actually a "NAV" flag telling us that it is unreliable.

That was hilarious. I lost a window in a Duchess once, while flying with a student over the Everglades. Luckily it wasn't too high and too far away from our home base. Apparently there had been a small crack in the glass hidden behind the doorframe, and once reaching 6000 ft it decided it was time to shatter and fly off on its own. I heard a loud bang and looked over at my student who was staring out the open frame of the left window. Thankfully it was in the summer and the extra air was welcomed lol. In the 152s I was flying during my private pilot training the doors would open in flight all the time :( Tought my CFI to always wear his shoulder harness and not lean against the door hehe.

The sun shade incident remained me of the time I was flying an experiment areobati aircraft half way through a loop the seat under my flight instructor failed with a loud bang, it had tandem seating so I couldn't see what had failed. A little concerning, I was very busy for a few seconds following the noise checking on the operation of the aircraft. Things like do I still have wings, rudder elevator and does it all work, the flight instructor had slipped into the baggage compartment when the seat failed causing his headset to be disconnected, now it is funny, at the time not so much. This happened several years before gopro and smartphones. So I don't have a recording. Wish I did.

When i used land at SNA rwy 20R was 19R and it was only 5700 feet. It's not much margin for the 737'a coming in fully loaded in the summer time. Also, the noise abatement rules are in a word: CRAZY. SNA is in a very expensive neighborhood. Great video as always and brought back some great memories.
